Perfect gimbal. Using it with my Nikon D500 and Nikon 200-500. Smooth movement and easy to balance. Used for both bird photography and landscape.

An excellent value

I bought this gimbal head for my son in preparation for a bird photography trip to Texas. He is a casual bird photographer and does not need to invest in a Wimberley or other top-tier gimbal head. There are cheaper gimbals that will do the job basically, but their operation is not smooth and the so-so quality of the workmanship is obvious. This Oben gimbal is nicely made and is a real bargain for the price asked. I don't know how well it would hold up under the wear and tear of a heavy rig used frequently but for someone who gets out in the field to take telephoto images casually this is a wonderful piece of kit.

Have to be careful when movong from one plane to another in the field as the head will move around and possibly pinch your fingers or slam your camera into something wish it had some kinda strap to lock it in a transport position...

The Oben Gh-30 Gimbal Head secures my large lens and camera to my Benro Mach 3 Tripod while still allowing me to move and adjust the direction and angle for that perfect shot. Set up instructions are clear and specific with visuals. Very pleased with this purchase.

What is the process for removing the gimbal head from a tripod?
Asked by: Tom
It is the same as you would attach any other tripod head. What I have done is use the Manfrotto 625 (3296) RC0 Hexagonal Quick Release Adapter and added the Manfrotto 130-14 Hexagonal Quick Release Plate (Flat Bottomed) with 1/4"-20 Screw on each of my tripod heads so I only have to carry one tripod but can quickly change tripod heads in the field. I have several tripod heads, the Oben Gimblal head, Acratech Ball head and an Arca Swiss Mono Ball. Depending on the demands of the situation I can easily switch tripod heads to fit my needs.

After extensive research to match my situation - hiking trails in search of new birds in Panama,Cuba, Costa Rica, etc and my gear weight and age, I finally chose Oben GH-30 Gimbal Head with Sirui T-S Series Tripod. The mounting platform and screw are standard/ universal. They interface with the Oben GH-40 Gimbal Head perefectly. There should be no problem.
