Featuring durable yet lightweight aluminum construction, the GH-30 Gimbal Head from Oben is designed to balance a lens and camera along its vertical and horizontal axes. Ideal for shooting moving subjects such as birds, wildlife, and athletic events, the gimbal head ensures you can use your telephoto or zoom lens to quickly aim and shoot your subject. The unit's built-in fluid motion assures smooth and uniform panning. Unwieldy lenses that are normally too large or heavy to be moved and aimed quickly can be tilted or swiveled effortlessly, and large, easy-to-grip locking knobs and an Arca-type quick release plate allow for swift and secure lens mounting. The GH-30 mounts onto most tripods with a 3/8"-16 threaded stud, and the strong and durable curved main arm supports and balances loads up to 44 lb, so even a large lens feels weightless.

Oben GH-30 Reviews
Great addition to my gear
By David
Rated 5 out of 5

Was looking at this for some time. Reasonably priced. Needed something to support Olympus OM5 with the 100-400mm lens. The tripod & ball head were rated ok, but the lens kept slipping down a bit, even after tightening. Always heard good comments about gimbal heads and purchased this one at a decent price. Only tested it for a while, but it provides the support I wanted.

I shoot mostly handheld, but wanted to try a gimbal head without spending a lot of money. Smooth and easy to track birds. So far I’m pleased.

I'm curious, would using a moving gimbal head require you to to shut off your ibis or would it be best to leave on since you would actually be moving this device around?
Leave it on. Unless you know your subject will not move.

What is the process for removing the gimbal head ...
What is the process for removing the gimbal head from a tripod?
It is the same as you would attach any other tripod head.
What I have done is use the Manfrotto 625 (3296) RC0 Hexagonal Quick Release Adapter and added the Manfrotto 130-14 Hexagonal Quick Release Plate (Flat Bottomed) with 1/4"-20 Screw on each of my tripod heads so I only have to carry one tripod but can quickly change tripod heads in the field. I have several tripod heads, the Oben Gimblal head, Acratech Ball head and an Arca Swiss Mono Ball. Depending on the demands of the situation I can easily switch tripod heads to fit my needs.

Will this gimbal work with a slik 500 dx tripod? Do I need an attachment?
After extensive research to match my situation - hiking trails in search of new birds in Panama,Cuba, Costa Rica, etc and my gear weight and age, I finally chose Oben GH-30 Gimbal Head with Sirui T-S Series Tripod.
The mounting platform and screw are standard/ universal. They interface with the Oben GH-40 Gimbal Head perefectly. There should be no problem.

How well does it work when used upside down? For example, connected to an inverted center column on a tripod.
The Oben GH-30 Gimbal Head will not work upside down. All gimble heads are for long telephoto lenses that have a tripod foot and cannot be used upside down.

I have a sigma 150-600 lens, i use an FTZ adaptor for my Z6 ii. Is the adapter plate long enough or would it be better for balance if I ordered the longer 5" accessory one?
Taht combination will work well with the plate this gimbal comes with.
