question

When you use the HOLD on the Zoom H1n, will it prevent the rotary dial from changing the input level?I have FOUR Zoom H1 recorders and use them to record with lav mics. I plug the lav into the Zoom H1, set the record level, start recording, then use the HOLD function and the recorder gets put into a pocket, etc. I'd hate to have the input level change because the knob gets moved while in someone's pocket. Also, I wish it was USB-C instead of microUSB, but that's not a big issue. The other thing I've really been wishing for in the Zoom H1 recorder is a SAFETY TRACK , so when I'm recording with a lav mic (which is mono), the LEFT channel will record at the level I set, and the RIGHT channel will be a few dB lower; allowing me to rescue anything that may have clipped. Basically asynchronous input levels, since I don't really need stereo for a lav mic.

The Hold setting does not prevent the audio dial from adjusting the volume, unfortunately

question

The previous model H1N fails to keep the date and time once the batteries are removed. It also tends to drain the batteries when sitting on the shelf for even a few days. Does the new one fix this issue at all? Its annoying to have to change the batteries/set the date and time every time I use the device.
Asked by: Nicolas
I don't know about retaining the date and time if the batteries are removed, but I have not noticed any battery drain while the units are on the shelf. I have had two H1n's since May 2020 and have sent them out to interviewees for "in person" sound may times, with intervals on the shelf between sending them out. Even considering the interviewing time, battery drain has been minimal.
