Leupold BX-1 McKenzie overview

  • 1Description

The Leupold 8x42 BX-1 McKenzie Binoculars feature phase-corrected BAK4 roof prisms and anti-reflection fully multi-coated optics that work together to produce a versatile and capable optic with bright and clear high-contrast images and accurate color rendition. Coupled with the optical features are 42mm diameter objectives that boost its light-gathering ability without the bulk and weight of larger models, as well as a wide exit pupil and long eye relief, for easy and comfortable use in challenging conditions such as the early morning and late evening. The combination of optics and objectives make the McKenzie ideally suited for most mid-range needs and outdoor activities from hunting, to birding, to sporting events.

Complementing the optical performance are construction details that make these binoculars durable and comfortable to use. The lightweight and durable aluminum alloy chassis is protected by a gray rubberized armor that is textured for a non-slip grip. The optical tubes are nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof and resistant to internal fogging when moving through extreme changes in temperatures or environmental conditions. A right-eye diopter adjustment and twist-up eyecups allow the binoculars to be customized to most people's needs and can be comfortably used with or without eyewear. For long-term glassing, the McKenzie is tripod mountable with an optional adapter.

Optical Performance
  • Moderate 8x power magnifies view without sacrificing exit pupil diameter or the amplification of visible hand shake common with high-magnification optics
  • 42mm objective lenses improve light-gathering ability versus smaller objectives while helping to maintain a compact form factor
  • Roof prism optical path ensures a low-profile design that is easy to hold
  • BAK4 prisms deliver a round exit pupil and a crisp and clear image with limited edge distortion
  • Phase-corrected prism coatings reduce internal interference to improve contrast, clarity, and resolution
  • Anti-reflection fully multi-coated lenses maximize light transmission for bright and clear images with accurate color rendition
  • 330' field of view at 1000 yards
Use and Handling
  • Closed bridge configuration offers a stable platform for the internal focusing mechanism
  • Large center focus wheel is easy to manipulate in cold or wet conditions, or when wearing gloves
  • Right-eye diopter adjustment enables users to compensate for optical prescription for sharper views
  • 56-74mm interpupillary adjustment range allows easy use by wide variety of people
  • Twist-up eyecups for comfortable use with or without eyewear
  • Tripod mountable with optional adapter for hands-free use to eliminate vibration and arm fatigue
  • Long 17.7mm eye relief reduces eye strain for easier and more comfortable viewing
  • Wide 5.25mm exit pupil will cover pupils as they open and dilate in low light to keep the entire scene in the view

    Leupold BX-1 McKenzie reviews

8x42 BX-1 McKenzie Binoculars (Shadow Gray) is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolute must for any hunter! I was looking at purchasing my first optics last year. I talked to my uncle, long time hunter and he told me to only go with Leupold. He had a spotting scope that was over 20 years old, and before the 2014 season he sent it in because it was broken. They sent him a brand new one. I bought the Leupold McKenzie's. They have been in the Idaho fall, winter, and summer. As well as the Southern Nevada/Arizona Heat. They are working flawlessly. I love how clear they are, and how they never fog up. They also do a great job at low light. I will never buy anything other then Leupold, and cant wait to get my next rifle scope. Thanks Leupold!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Value binoculars price great optics I purchased these last year to go elk hunting. I have always used Leopold scope but never used binos hunting as everything in Alabama is pretty close. I used these to glass for elk and was amazed for the price how well they performed. Now use them e overtime i hunt whitetails. Only buy Leopold optics. Don't feel cheap at all very solid. love them. Easy to adjust eye relief
