When your career depends on that next shot, you need a tripod that's much more than just three legs to stand on. Meeting and succeeding that need, we have the RC-8880 Vantage Series 5 Carbon Fiber Tripod, one of a series of tripods from Robus that delivers performance to satiate the most demanding image-makers, regardless of the conditions or terrain in the field. The 10x carbon fiber legs feature wide, stable leg tube diameters. Even at maximum extension of 80.5", these substantial cylinders combine with the tripod's anodized CNC-machined spider to support video or still camera rigs weighing up to 77 lb.

Shooting outdoors can definitely be a challenge, especially when doing macro or close up photography on the ground. But with three variable leg angles of 25, 55, and 85°, plus independent leg spread, the tripod can be splayed out to a minimum height of just 4.5". The tripod's central spider features a lock to loosen the yoke and a safety pull latch that releases the finely machined top plate. This permits interchangeability with the included 75mm video bowl. There's also an optional center column available that extends the RC-8880's maximum height to 95.25".

A quarter turn of the tripod's twist-locks retracts the 4-section legs to a reasonable folded length of 28.5". Two of the legs have tactile rubber grips that ensure a secure hold as you carry the support from one place to another. Additionally, a 3/8"-16 socket at the end of each leg allows you to swap out the standard feet for the included spikes or wide rubber feet to accommodate different terrains and surfaces.

With a possible 95" reach, a 77 lb weight capacity, and a folded length of less than 30", the tripod's notable stability and performance-based features ensure its place as a favorite go-to-support solution for professionals and dedicated enthusiasts.

Interchangeable Top Plates
A finely machined top plate features a smooth anodized finish, and a chamfered leading edge for ease of installation, and a 3/8"-16 threaded head mount. The 75mm bowl is interchangeable with the top plate and mounts into the spider in the same fashion. There's also an optional center column available that extends the RC-8880's maximum height to 95.25".
All Surface Capable
Accommodate different terrains and surfaces via the three different sets of feet. The standard rubber feet, wide rubber feet, and spikes are all interchangeable via the 3/8"-16 socket at the end of each leg.

Robus Vantage Series Tripod Legs Reviews

Robust, Sturdy

As a newcomer to heavy duty tripods I combined it with the Wimberly WH-200 Gimbal and I'm pleased. Only complaint is a couple of the rubber sleeves that wrap around lock joints for leg extension were installed poorly and I had to spend some time moving them into place. It's a quality product and heavy duty.

Twice as good; half the price

I am absolutely elated. This is solid. I love the leg extension collars -- quick, easy, and no guessing. I think I could park my car on this tripod. And it is only half the price of some other brand names that brag about and charge too much for their tripods. I don't ever want to use a center column again. I am captivated.

Light but robust

It does the job and does it very well! Great height and confident structure. It's large enough to support big gear steadily; it holds roughly 10lbs for me regularly. Very smooth adjustments to the legs on all aspects as well. Being carbon fiber, its weight is more than manageable when attached to a pack for hiking into remote areas.

One for the tall people.

I had been on the hunt for a good quality tripod for some time which would not have a center column, and still fit my height well. I am 185cm tall or just about 61 and then even this tripod, fully extended get a tad too high when have my camera on top. I am using Acratech ballhead. I just lower the tripod just a bit and just think its nice that I can add some extra height if I feel I need it. Got this tripod few months ago and it feels very strong and robust. Very sturdy. I use it also with my Promediagear Katana jr. gimbal head and have then my Sigma 500mm f/4 lens on and it feels lightweight for this tripod. Sure he has some weight this tripod but nothing I will complain about. I have hiked all over with this thing and it doesnt bother me at all. If you want tall and sturdy, then you should be aware it is going to be few grams heavier than smaller tripods. It comes with beautiful well made bag and you get these extra feet too attach for different terrains you might find yourself in. I am loving my Robus RC-8860 and do believe we will be a great team for the coming years.

I have had many tripods throughout my career, and this one by far coupled with the manfrotto head is the best I have had, the height on this is INCREDIBLE. Love it

sturdy tripod, steady in windy conditions. Relatively light weight. Excellent stability due to having adequate height without the need for a center column. good quality at a good price.

I've had a few cheaper tripods because I didn't know any better. I started looking into higher end tripods and came across this tripod. The features checked every box I was looking for. At least 6', carbon fiber, and no center column. Oh and under $500. B&H had this on sale for just under $500. The reviews convinced me tripod could easily retail for $700 and still be priced fairly. So I went for it. I wasn't sure if a tripod could possibly be that much better than my $160 tripod. Now I know, I had no idea what ai was missing. The build quality can't be fully understood by the spec sheet. It even had the same smell as a fresh brand new pair of Nikes. I wish I had skipped my 2 cheaper tripods and went straight for this one.

I purchased an 8860 several months ago & absolutely *love* it, but haven’t yet had the opportunity to test the 80mm flat feet that were included. They are supposed to be for flat, slick floors, but I could see them also being helpful on craggy rock. Anyone try this?
Asked by: Tom
Haven't used them yet. However, the idea is the more surface area in contact the better the "grip". If the surface is really craggy I'd try the standard feet first. You'll only know for sure once you try them.

Will using the 80" version of this tripod with only three of the four leg sections extended make it more rigid and stable than the 63" version with all four of its leg sections extended?
Asked by: Albert
Your assumption is correct, the 80" is a better way to go.

Hello For 75mm half ball fluid head do I have to purchase an adaptor as well? Any recommendations? Thanks
Asked by: Fraz
I have a gimbal head whose base is 75mm and it fits the tripod perfectly. I shouldn't think you would need any sort of adapter.

How does the apex/spider differ between the 3 series and the 5 series? I see that the leg diameters increase, but is the mounting plate the same diameter and the distance from leg to leg around the apex the same? Just trying get a sense of how they differ dimensionally at the apex and whether there's additional rigidity and vibration damping benefits in the larger series beyond just increased tube diameters. Thanks!
Asked by: Chris
The mounting plate and the distance from leg to leg on both the 5 series and the 3 series are the same, the additional rigidity and vibration damping benefits in the larger series are only due to the increased thickness of the legs as well as larger modular feet.
