Robus Vantage Series Tripod Legs Overview

When your career depends on that next shot, you need a tripod that's much more than just three legs to stand on. Meeting and succeeding that need, we have the RC-8860 Vantage Series 5 Carbon Fiber Tripod, one of a series of tripods from Robus that delivers performance to satiate the most demanding image-makers, regardless of the conditions or terrain in the field. The 10x carbon fiber legs feature wide, stable leg tube diameters. Even at maximum extension of 63.8", these substantial cylinders combine with the tripod's anodized CNC-machined spider to support video or still camera rigs weighing up to 77 lb.

Shooting outdoors can definitely be a challenge, especially when doing macro or close up photography on the ground. But with three variable leg angles of 25, 55, and 85°, plus independent leg spread, the tripod can be splayed out to a minimum height of just 4". The tripod's central spider features a lock to loosen the yoke and a safety pull latch that releases the finely machined top plate. This permits interchangeability with the included 75mm video bowl. There's also an optional center column available that extends the RC-8860's maximum height to 78.6".

A quarter turn of the tripod's twist-locks retracts the 4-section legs to a reasonable folded length of 24.5". Two of the legs have tactile rubber grips that ensure a secure hold as you carry the support from one place to another. Additionally, a 3/8"-16 socket at the end of each leg allows you to swap out the standard feet for the included spikes or wide rubber feet to accommodate different terrains and surfaces.

With a possible 78" reach, a 77 lb weight capacity, and a folded length of less than 25", the tripod's notable stability and performance-based features ensure its place as a favorite go-to-support solution for professionals and dedicated enthusiasts.

10x Carbon Fiber Legs
Provides stability and dampen vibrations, which would cause shake in the camera.
CNC-Machined Aluminum Spider
The CNC-machined spider features a lock to loosen the yoke and a safety pull latch that releases the top plate, which has a counterweight hook on the bottom. The anodized spider also features a strap mount and an integrated bubble level that ensures your horizons are always leveled.
Interchangeable Top Plates
A finely machined top plate features a smooth anodized finish, a chamfered leading edge for ease of installation, and a 3/8"-16 threaded head mount. The 75mm bowl is interchangeable with the top plate and mounts into the spider in the same fashion. There's also an optional center column available that extends the RC-8860's maximum height to 78.6".
All Surface Capable
Accommodate different terrains and surfaces via the three different sets of feet. The standard rubber feet, wide rubber feet, and spikes are all interchangeable via the 3/8"-16 socket at the end of each leg.
Variable Leg Angles
Three variable leg angles of 25, 55, and 85° with independent leg spread accommodate uneven terrain and allow you to shoot at a minimum height of 4".
Twist Leg Locks
Twist Locks that open with a quarter turn to extend to a maximum height of 63.8" or collapse the 4-sections of the leg in a quick and timely manner.
Tactile and Comfortable Rubber Leg Grips
Heavyweight rubber sleeves on two legs provide a secure, comfortable and balanced grip under any weather conditions.

How does the apex/spider differ between the 3 ...

How does the apex/spider differ between the 3 series and the 5 series? I see that the leg diameters increase, but is the mounting plate the same diameter and the distance from leg to leg around the apex the same? Just trying get a sense of how they differ dimensionally at the apex and whether there's additional rigidity and vibration damping benefits in the larger series beyond just increased tube diameters. Thanks!
Asked by: Chris
The mounting plate and the distance from leg to leg on both the 5 series and the 3 series are the same, the additional rigidity and vibration damping benefits in the larger series are only due to the increased thickness of the legs as well as larger modular feet.

Would this be a good tripod to use with the Edelkrone JibONE?
Asked by: James
This is an excellent choice for the Eldelkrone JibOne. You should definitely weight it down with something like a sandbag or a bag filled with heavy gear with the provided hook.

How is this tripod compared to the LeoFoto LN-364C? Thank you.
Asked by: George
Both have similar specifications on paper. In terms of differences, the Leofoto LN-364C is just a tad bit lighter in weight and shorter in folded length. The Robus 8860 has a 10-year warranty compared to the Leofoto's 2-year limited. The Robus also comes with more feet accessories than the Leofoto.

Will this work with the Arca-Swiss Monoball P0 with Panning System ? or is the tripod base too big ?
Asked by: Pall Silvan
It will work, you will probably have a 1/2" extra around the base. Typically tripods without center columns have similar size discs or flat plates. If you wanted a smaller base for the head, you can look at tripods with center columns.

The Robus RC-8860 Vantage Series 5 Carbon Fiber Tripod is made in China like so many fine products these days. This, of course, is subject to change during the course of production.
