Great for days when I don't want to carry around a bunch of lenses. Fast focus, sharp pictures, it's a great all around lens.
Great travel lens.

I love a nice wide shot while traveling and this lens is perfect for on the go. It's fairly light and compact without losing much quality. Excellent for grabbing quick travel stills or video and great to zoom in quickly when desired.
An ok lense, but better options out there

I ended up returning this lens. Primary reasons.
1. The changing aperture bothered me way more than I expected. I found myself not zooming in because of it closing off.
2. The picture quality. While not terrible by any means, I ended up getting a Sigma 30mm prime lense...and am way happier. I don't have the zoom capabilities but in the end the picture quality...WOW! I added the 16mm to it and love the combo!
An APS-C lens that I like

At half the size and 58% of the weight of a dslr lens of similar focal length (27-202mm), this lens is useful for travel and when you're not on assignment and you're shooting for yourself and family. I don't normally buy aps-c format, but after purchasing a mirrorless Sony, and reading the reviews, i took a chance. I love the bokeh. I think Sony took this into consideration, because a lot of their mirrorless lenses have very nice bokeh. This lens is also incredibly sharp, but like with other lenses, stay under f/11.

This is the second one I bout. The first one suddenly developed problems with one side getting way out of focus. So I hesitated about getting one again, but it is so nice to work with that I took a chance. I use it mostly on my full frame cameras, in both APS-C and FF modes, depending on the size of files I needed. At full frame, the lens does quite well at the 1:1 aspect ratio.
Yes, it is a big step up from the kit lenses!

I'm a hobbyist photographer. I've been using Sony E-mounts for about 10 years (NEX-6, a6000, a6600). This lens blows away the old 16-50 kit lens they used to include with a new E-mount camera. I took only this lens and my a6600 on a work trip to California. I wanted to see if it could be used as my only lens for street, architecture and nature photography. The image quality was excellent (I was constantly pixel peeping after each photo or burst of photos).
Will this replace your best prime lenses? Probably not. Is this an excellent all around travel lens? Totally. I'll no longer have anxiety about which lens(es) to bring when I have limited space in my luggage.

Shot this the other day with the Sony 6400 and the Sony E 18-135 lens. A great combination!
