Lightweight and Stabilized Versatility
Spanning a useful wide-angle to medium telephoto range, the E 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS from Sony is a versatile 27-202.5mm equivalent zoom for APS-C-format E-mount mirrorless cameras. Optical Design
  • Two extra-low dispersion elements help to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to produce greater clarity and color accuracy.
  • One aspherical element helps to control distortion and reduce spherical aberrations for greater sharpness and accurate rendering.
  • Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when employing selective focus techniques.
Image Stabilization and Autofocus
  • Optical SteadyShot image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake for sharper imagery when shooting handheld with slower shutter speeds. This stabilization system can also be combined with select camera's sensor-shift type image stabilization for more effective control of camera blur.
  • Linear autofocus motor provides quick and precise autofocus performance and enables accurate and silent focusing while recording videos.
  • Dedicated AF/MF switch allows for quick changing between focusing methods.
  • Minimum focusing distance of 1.5', along with a maximum magnification of 0.29x, suits working with close-up subjects.

Great for days when I don't want to carry around a bunch of lenses. Fast focus, sharp pictures, it's a great all around lens.

Great Travel Lens

I'm a hobbyist photographer. I've been using Sony E-mounts for about 10 years (NEX-6, a6000, a6600). This lens blows away the old 16-50 kit lens they used to include with a new E-mount camera. I took only this lens and my a6600 on a work trip to California. I wanted to see if it could be used as my only lens for street, architecture and nature photography. The image quality was excellent (I was constantly pixel peeping after each photo or burst of photos). Will this replace your best prime lenses? Probably not. Is this an excellent all around travel lens? Totally. I'll no longer have anxiety about which lens(es) to bring when I have limited space in my luggage.

I love a nice wide shot while traveling and this lens is perfect for on the go. It's fairly light and compact without losing much quality. Excellent for grabbing quick travel stills or video and great to zoom in quickly when desired.

An ok lense, but better options out there

I ended up returning this lens. Primary reasons. 1. The changing aperture bothered me way more than I expected. I found myself not zooming in because of it closing off. 2. The picture quality. While not terrible by any means, I ended up getting a Sigma 30mm prime lense...and am way happier. I don't have the zoom capabilities but in the end the picture quality...WOW! I added the 16mm to it and love the combo!

Great all-purpose lens

I give this lens 5 stars, not because it is the sharpest or brightest lens available, but because it suits its purpose as well as any lens I have ever used. That is, a good general-purpose walk-around lens for casual photography. I use it mostly for traveling and casual shots of family and other people and locations. It is actually very sharp, corner to corner, for a lens in this category - not as sharp as the Sony 16-55 f2.8, and not as bright. But it is noticeably smaller and lighter, easier to carry around. And its equivalent focal range of 27-200mm means I never have to change lenses. Oh, by the way, it also has image stabilization. For any photography in good light, it is excellent. And I think that is what it was designed for, so 5 stars.

Good size for A6400, seems sharp as I would expect. I did not receive a warranty card for USA or a lens hood the Sony site shows a lens hood included, hope I didn't get a grey market lens, check the fine print!

How is this lens for close-up, e.g., wildflowers and butterflies; a6400?
Asked by: Matthew
Like most general purpose lenses, it will function, but it may not produce the results you might be looking for. It does not focus all that close, and with a slow aperture, you are are going to have to increase the ISO so as to keep the shutter speed fast enough to prevent motion blur when that bug moves. I suggest the Sigma 70mm f/2.8 DG Macro Art Lens for Sony E as another member has mentioned.

The lens is both auto focus and manual focus. There is a switch on the left side of the lens barrel that allows the user to select either auto or manual. Nice to have this switch for critical focus or low light focus problems.
