Godox AD600Pro Reviews

STRESSFUL! UNRELIABLE BATTERY- WILL NOT WORK PLUGGED IN!!

I arrived to a commercial shoot today, after thinking I charged the battery the night before-- and it wouldn't turn on. After 10 minutes of fiddling and people staring at me... I'm sweating bullets. No problem! I'm prepared! I brought an extension cord just in case... I thought to myself. FAIL. The unit WILL NOT WORK unless you have a charged battery attached. Bring other options if you plan to use this for a shoot. Luckily I had a backup AD400-- which WILL work plugged in. I wouldn't have purchased this had I known the unit will not work plugged in. DON'T DO IT!! The stress is not worth it!

Unbeatable Value

My work is primarily real estate photo, video, and associated services. This unit is our third Godox/Flashpoint 600Pro. These are used hand held controlled by a Flashpoint R2 Pro on camera (Nikon Z bodies). Duty cycle is hundreds of pops daily three days a week. We are careful but they are handled on job site through homes and buildings all day. They have been reliable though we have had display and main board replacements. Battery life is excellent. I can't give a count because we carry extra batteries and replace them at 1/3 power. Thousands, I don't know, but hundreds for sure. Color is good but not exact. One of our units is a little red. We are looking very closely and running fast through hundreds of photos. We would not spend the level of power competitive brands over this function. On the Nikon Z's we routinely sync at a 600th of a second perfectly. I cannot comment on recycle, our work does not require that. However, at full power pops it seems to be ready instantly. This is another piece of equipment which may or may not be needed for all practices. But if it fits your work flow; $750, 600 watt-second, no cords, carrying it around on job sites, it's unbeatable value.

Pull the trigger

I'm very excited about my AD600 pro. Although I haven't taken it out on location at the time of this review, shooting with in the studio has been very beneficial. After considering this purchase for some time I knew this was a great buy. So happy I pulled the trigger.

Well worth the upgrade

Upgrading from using speed lights and, wow, what a difference. Have been using these for about a week so have not found any negative points. Used them on a high-speed shoot pouring liquid over the weekend and worked perfectly. Is a time-saver and relief over fussing with speed lights. These are larger and heavier than I anticipated but is a non-issue for me. I did purchase the extension head accessory so can use one light overhead above a scrim -- putting the whole light body overhead just a bit too unsteady for a standard c-stand. Otherwise, these lights are awesome and huge step-up for my work.

Poor instructions..heavy..

The lights performed as advertise, however the instructions that came with this unit were poorly written. I spent hours on my own attempting to get the lights to function with my canon camera. Thank goodness B&H had a video chat tool which saved the day.. Best service they have ever provided. Looking to use the lights in remote locations without regular power source but the units are very heavy to move. Also, units did not come with the a light stand.

DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT, DEFECTIVE BATTERY

Please read the other reviews that mention what I'm about to say. I purchased the Godox AD600, and it worked fine for a while. Eventually one day, the battery would simply not charge! Dead. A high percentage of customers have similar issues with the battery that's included with this flash. B&H should stop selling this product! Too many of their customers are experiencing issues with this Godox AD600 battery. Come on B&H, enough customers are explaining a known defect, and yet you continue selling this flawed, piece of crap battery.

SHould have gotten this years ago.

The strobe: solid. And it delivers as promised. The C-stand: no more crappy lightweight stands. This stand is built to last. You aren't going to accidently bend it. Not possible unless you throw it off a tall building. The Softbox: really, really nice. Buy two of these combos if you are getting started.

It's not great.

I have the 400's and the 300's and I really prefer them over the 600 despite the extra power. It's very glitchy. It'll randomly decide to blast at full power despite being dialed in on the transmitter, which is not that great when you require consistent light along the shoot. The 400's are a solid deal. Just watch out for the occasional bad battery! I'm planning on getting another 400 to replace this in my lighting kit.

Buy the Flashpoint version from Adorama. It comes with a decent case and a much better warranty. It is the exact same light, just rebranded, and works with all your Godox accessories.

question

When do I update the firmware and how often does it need to be updated?
Asked by: Ryan
To download the most recent firmware update from Godox, you would visit their website and go to their Downloads webpage from their menu bar. The Downloads page is listed on the link included below. You would then search for the AD600 on the webpage, then click the green arrow in the Downloads column next to the AD600 on the webpage to begin your download. It only requires updating when a new update is released by Godox, or if you are having issues with your flash.<a href= http://www.godox.com/EN/Download.html target= _blank >http://www.godox.com/EN/Download.html</a>

There is an LED modeling lamp in this monolight which is used for reference of how the light falls on a subject. However, it is not powerful enough for video use.
