Zhiyun-Tech Crane Plus Overview

Taking a step up from the Crane v2, the Zhiyun-Tech Crane Plus is a three-axis handheld gimbal stabilizer offering MotionMemory, POV, Intelligent Object Tracking, and NightLapse modes. The Crane Plus supports a large payload capacity of up to 5.5 lb, and provides integrated control for select DSLR and mirrorless cameras. With 360° rotation along all three axes, and up to 45° of synchronized roll in POV mode, the Crane Plus offers a multitude of smooth, stabilized shooting angles. An all-in-one design and dedicated camera cables enable you to snap stills, and zoom with select cameras using controls on the Crane Plus handgrip.

The versatile MotionMemory feature enables you to create and save custom moves, including time-lapse setups. Use MotionMemory to repeat your camera motion again and again with just the touch of a button. Use the POV mode to capture traditional, level point-of-view shots, or engage up to 45° of roll angle to create an off-level, "Dutch tilt" look. The Intelligent Object Tracking mode is useful for vlogging and otherwise automatically following a subject or object. Trace a box around your subject on your smartphone to start the Crane Plus tracking. The aptly named NightLapse feature on the Crane Plus enables you to create dramatic time-lapse videos at night, complete with extended exposures, streaking taillights, etc.

The Crane Plus is designed for DSLR and mirrorless camera rigs weighing up to 5.5 lb, and includes a detachable lens support for long lenses. The included aluminum mini-tripod does double duty as an extended handgrip, and a 1/4"-20 mounting hole on the gimbal's bottom enables its use with monopods and other supports. This gimbal can also be controlled wirelessly via the downloadable ZY Play iOS/Android app. The Crane Plus is powered by the two included 26500 lithium-ion batteries, which feature a 12 to 18-hour runtime, and a three-hour average charging time.

Will it work with a Nikon D7500 with 18-300mm lens?
Asked by: Ian
The Crane Plus is really geared towards Mirrorless Cameras. We would not recommend it with a DSLR like the D7500 and a longer lens.

question

Does anyone have a good solution for a Hoodman type setup for shooting outdoors in bright light. I recently shot in Mexico with an Ikan Beholder Gimbal and there was no way to attach a Hoodman type device to my Sony A7SII while it was on the Gimbal, thus I was shooting blind in terms of critical focus. Shooting in Slog made viewing the LCD screen outside with all that glare nearly impossible. I see that with this model at least the back motor is not directly behind the LCD screen so there should be room on the back side for a Hoodman rig to stick out. ?
Asked by: James F.
There really will not be a good way to add a Hoodman style of viewfinder or sunshade to a camera on a gimbal. Instead we recommend attaching an external monitor. First you can purchase the SIMPLY GIMBAL FMJ Handheld Gimbal Adapter which will allow you to attach accessories. Then from there you can look at a nice monitor like the Ikan DH5e.https://bhpho.to/2J8HvJhhttps://bhpho.to/2bYPeah

question

When using a Sony A7s + Metabones Adapter plus Canon 24-70 L Series lens will there be enough clearance for the camera to be balanced?
Asked by: Payam
The answer from Zhiyun-Tech is that since the lens is heavier than the camera, you most likely will have to add counterweight on the camera side.

Will this work with a sony a7rii and zeiss 35mm 1.4 or will it be too heavy?
Asked by: Suchet
That camera and lens weigh 2.6147 lbs / 1.186 kg, well within the Zhiyun-Tech Crane Plus 5.5 lbs / 2.494 kg capacity. We see no balance issues either.
