Zhiyun-Tech Crane Plus overview

  • 1Description

Taking a step up from the Crane v2, the Zhiyun-Tech Crane Plus is a three-axis handheld gimbal stabilizer offering MotionMemory, POV, Intelligent Object Tracking, and NightLapse modes. The Crane Plus supports a large payload capacity of up to 5.5 lb, and provides integrated control for select DSLR and mirrorless cameras. With 360° rotation along all three axes, and up to 45° of synchronized roll in POV mode, the Crane Plus offers a multitude of smooth, stabilized shooting angles. An all-in-one design and dedicated camera cables enable you to snap stills, and zoom with select cameras using controls on the Crane Plus handgrip.

The versatile MotionMemory feature enables you to create and save custom moves, including time-lapse setups. Use MotionMemory to repeat your camera motion again and again with just the touch of a button. Use the POV mode to capture traditional, level point-of-view shots, or engage up to 45° of roll angle to create an off-level, "Dutch tilt" look. The Intelligent Object Tracking mode is useful for vlogging and otherwise automatically following a subject or object. Trace a box around your subject on your smartphone to start the Crane Plus tracking. The aptly named NightLapse feature on the Crane Plus enables you to create dramatic time-lapse videos at night, complete with extended exposures, streaking taillights, etc.

The Crane Plus is designed for DSLR and mirrorless camera rigs weighing up to 5.5 lb, and includes a detachable lens support for long lenses. The included aluminum mini-tripod does double duty as an extended handgrip, and a 1/4"-20 mounting hole on the gimbal's bottom enables its use with monopods and other supports. This gimbal can also be controlled wirelessly via the downloadable ZY Play iOS/Android app. The Crane Plus is powered by the two included 26500 lithium-ion batteries, which feature a 12 to 18-hour runtime, and a three-hour average charging time.

    Zhiyun-Tech Crane Plus reviews

Crane Plus Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fantastic with low weight, very poor above 3 pounds Used a GH4 with the tiny 20mm 1.7 pancake lens and it worked BEAUTIFULLY. The crane plus produced some really stunning footage. When I put on a Nikon 85 1.4g with a speed booster is approx 2 pounds (3 1/2 pounds total). After carefully balancing the gimbal, and having fresh batteries, it is overwhelmed by the GH4/Nikon 85/Speedbooster combo. Switched out the 85 1.4 to the Nikon 35 1.8 and it was a little better, but still had micro jerks when steadying it. Saying it has a 5.5 payload is openly dishonest. Other than that, the build quality, case and performance on sub 2 pound loads is superb.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Compared to V2, plus and Crane2 I already had the CraneV2 but wanted to be able to use a Sony 7Rii and 7Riii with heavier 16-35mm Sony G lens. Also wanted the tracking feature.. The Crane Plus works well with my set up. Tracking using a small light iPod mounted ontop of hot shoe is somewhat cumbersome, but much better than my larger HTC cell phone.. And tracking say lights of a boat on the Nile wasn't good as it would switch to track other lights etc.. Using a heavy cell phone is even worse in terms of balance issues.. , you can't balance the camera with a big phone on the hotshoe, but do the best you can in terms of left-right and front-back balance so motors have less work. But over all satisfied crane plus... With my sony 7Rii 16-35mm set up, it is heavy, I don't own the new Crane 2 but it is clearly much heavier.. The tracking and timelapse are just software apps that you can use with any of the Crane products, but differneces have to do with weight the crane can handle, the craneV2 won't work well with tracking app because it can't handle added weight of cell phone for tracking.. Crane2 can handle heavier camera and cell phone tracking plus has focus wheel, but will be very heavy to hold for long periods... Say more than a few min. So if you don't need the focus wheel, but want medium weight set up, the Crane Plus is a good option.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product I've worked with many gimbals and haven't found one yet that is perfect. This one is really nice and my favorite so far. I am not a fan of not having OLED since the user interface is a little confusing, but once you adapt it is does its job!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 4.6 Stars (that will become 5 after app updates) The Crane Plus is a compact, versatile and eye-opening tool that evolves deliverables across a broader range of capture systems. Video unboxing & overview at: https://youtu.be/gQWKijfLueA

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Compatibility with Canon DSLR's is dissappointing This gimbal has great quality material, and works like a charm as a stabilizer, but my #1 biggest gripe is that my T5i Canon isn't compatible with the built in remote functions, for stop/start video, photo taking and focus buttons on handle....
