DJI Mavic Air Overview

  • 1Description

Capture all your adventures in stunning detail with the Mavic Air Fly More Combo from DJI. This foldable, pocket-portable drone was designed with travelers and outdoor enthusiasts in mind. It features a 3-axis gimbal-stabilized camera with a 1.2/3" CMOS sensor that shoots 12MP stills and is capable of capturing 4K video at 30 fps that it can transfer at speeds up to 100 Mb/s or store on its 8GB of internal storage.

In terms of performance, the Mavic Air offers multiple flight modes, can reach a top speed of up to 43 mph, and offers a max flight time of up to 21 minutes. For safety and security, the Mavic Air uses an advanced flight control system that draws on several sophisticated technologies, including Visual Inertial Odometry (VIO) and Advanced Pilot Assistance Systems (APAS), to locate itself in 3D space, detect objects, and avoid collisions.

The Mavic Air works in tandem with DJI's GO 4 mobile app for accessing settings, getting a telemetry readout, viewing a low-latency video feed, as well as more advanced features, such as accessing QuickShots, ActiveTrack, and more. In addition to traditional joystick style controls, you can fly the Mavic with simple tap-based commands or using specific hand gestures.

In addition to the contents included with the standard Mavic Air, this Fly More Combo includes additional batteries, a shoulder bag, battery hub, and more.

3-Axis Gimbal Camera
The portable Mavic Air houses a 3-axis mechanical gimbal with an angular vibration range reduced to 0.005° and is equipped with dampeners that help ensure steady shooting
4K Video at 100 Mb/s
The Mavic Air can shoot 4K video at 30 fps and record footage at 100 Mb/s
Advanced Onboard Camera
The Mavic Air's onboard camera integrates a 1/2.3" 12MP CMOS sensor and an f/2.8 lens with a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 24mm to shoot high-quality photos and videos
32 MP Sphere Panoramas
In addition to horizontal, vertical, and 180° panoramas, the Mavic Air can stitch 25 photos together in eight seconds to create clear 32MP spherical panoramas
Slow-Motion Video
With support for recording 1080p 120 fps slow-motion video, the Mavic Air can capture even your most high-speed adventure
Improved HDR Photos
New HDR algorithms help you obtain the right exposure settings intelligently, based on lighting conditions

    DJI Mavic Air Reviews

Mavic Air Fly More Combo (Onyx Black) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 144.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far, its SOOOOO GOOD! Really enjoy this piece of equipment. First drone so its a bit much to learn. At first, I wondered why flying the drone seemed to involve so much. However, I have come to appreciate why DJI is the industry leader. The app and controller and all the info you have available to you via the two is supper useful for safe cinematic flying. Many competitors just don’t give you as much to work with. Having said that, I have to admit that out of the box instructions are WACK! It is imperative that you to visit YouTube for tutorials and other user feedback. I’ve learned the majority of what I know by looking at these. And once you have do that, this drone is a fantastic piece of equipment.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great small drone but with compromises I've owned one now for a few months. It's not perfect by a long way. Video lag is terrible even at close range. It is heavily affected by interference from maybe wifi signals in built up areas. The camera is ok but again the dynamic range is poor with the highlights often blown out and the medium range too dark. You need to film in the D-Cinelike setting to get anything decent. Photos are also disappointing and seem to lack sharpness. Yes it folds up small etc etc and it has 4K at 100MB/s but it's little more than a toy in my opinion. The video lag alone is a deal breaker for me and I've ordered something else now to replace it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy pilot It's amazing what they've crammed into such a small package. There are tons of reviews out there on why this is such an awesome drone so I'll just add that I agree with the reviews that speak highly of it. I've had it for a few weeks and flown a dozen or so times. Before you buy, make sure you're not in a DJI red geofence area. has the map where you can check. If you're in a red zone, you won't be able to fly around your own place. I'm in a yellow so I need to authorize my flights every time but it's not too big a hassle. Pictures of sunsets from 300 feet are worth it. So is being able to check the shingles on my roof and the gutters, :)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for personal use The Mavic Air is a great small drone packed with all the features that you would expect from a DJI product. And like many other DJI products, I would recommend it if you are in the market for a small, capable drone. That said, it won't replace my Mavic Pro because the Air really does have a shorter range and is more easily disturbed by localized electromagnetic interference. I've also had issues with the responsiveness of the gimbal and multiple camera disconnects in panorama mode, both of which I believe will be corrected in a future firmware update.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So worth it! Man, what can I say? This is an awesome product. Design, ease of use and affordability. Design -- I can fit the controller, drone & spare batteries in my pockets. I can be setup and flying within a few minutes. I have friends with larger drones that complain about the time required to assemble and calibrate their drones. It's easy to use. My 7 year old loves to fly my Mavic Air. She can control it with either the controller or with hand gestures. The Mavic Air is very affordable. Other drones with similar capabilities will easily cost you double the price of an Air. I financed my drone through PayPal. Stop reading. Don't over think it. Buy this drone and have a great time!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazingly easy This was my first drone and I bought it one week before my vacation to a remote Caribbean island. I flew it once before the trip to get a general understanding, loaded it up and crossed my fingers. All I can say is wow, this thing is amazing !!! Being on am island the winds were very strong (15 to 20 mph), surprisingly the drone handles it very well with shorter battery run time being the only consequence. Video was rock solid steady even though the drone was working it’s butt off in the wind. The flying learning curve is very easy, the artistic cinematography however will be a long journey for me. Excellent service from B&H, incredible drone from DJI.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Awesome Tiny Drone I've been super impressed with this Mavic Air.? My primary hesitation when purchasing this drone was that it wouldn't have the image quality capable of matching/replacing that of my P3 4k. I'm happy to report that it can do that and more! It has excellent image quality for its size and the 100mbps bit rate is excellent. In regard to flight performance; I've found the battery life to be adequate, and the range to exceed my needs. It's also just a bunch of fun to put it into sport mode and fly around for a bit! All the safety features offered are a nice bonus as well. I'm confident in saying that this will be the drone coming with me for my future filmmaking endeavors. Its size, image quality, and overall intelligence makes it a great drone for consumers and professionals alike. One that can easily be brought along without the need for extra hard-cases and huge batteries. Definitely recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Fun! I am very new to quad copters. Started out playing with my kids parrot mini-drones and decided to get daddy his own toy. Based on reading and my limited experience, this drone represents a cross over from kids toy to something more sophisticated. More experienced folks can speak to its usefulness for serious aerial videography. For my part, I found the mavic air very easy to fly, out of the box. Its control software can seem a bit intimidating at first. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS, and you will be all right. Camera quality is very impressive for something so small. I doubt I will ever tax its capabilities for my purposes. a lot of fun to fly.

The FAA says it shouldn’t be flown beyond visual line of sight anyways, so even if it will operate 1km away, you probably shouldn’t.

Using the DJI Mavic controller, how far can the unit be flown safely? I am thinking of an island that is about 1.37 miles from where the controller would be.
    Asked by: Stanford L.
This particular Mavic will have a range on 3.1 miles (5000 meters). The safety of your flight will be determined by your surroundings. Also keep in mind that you only have about 20 minutes of flight time per battery.

Has anyone tried to fly/launch Mavic Air from a mountain pass?
    Asked by: George
Yes, I have flown my Mavic Air in the mountains. I have flown it from both peaks and passes. It works fine. Wind will be a concern if its blowing, but its the same as anywhere. The aircraft is light enough that air density doesnt make much difference at high altitudes.
