DJI Mavic Air overview

  • 1Description

Capture all your adventures in stunning detail with the Mavic Air Fly More Combo from DJI. This foldable, pocket-portable drone was designed with travelers and outdoor enthusiasts in mind. It features a 3-axis gimbal-stabilized camera with a 1.2/3" CMOS sensor that shoots 12MP stills and is capable of capturing 4K video at 30 fps that it can transfer at speeds up to 100 Mb/s or store on its 8GB of internal storage.

In terms of performance, the Mavic Air offers multiple flight modes, can reach a top speed of up to 43 mph, and offers a max flight time of up to 21 minutes. For safety and security, the Mavic Air uses an advanced flight control system that draws on several sophisticated technologies, including Visual Inertial Odometry (VIO) and Advanced Pilot Assistance Systems (APAS), to locate itself in 3D space, detect objects, and avoid collisions.

The Mavic Air works in tandem with DJI's GO 4 mobile app for accessing settings, getting a telemetry readout, viewing a low-latency video feed, as well as more advanced features, such as accessing QuickShots, ActiveTrack, and more. In addition to traditional joystick style controls, you can fly the Mavic with simple tap-based commands or using specific hand gestures.

In addition to the contents included with the standard Mavic Air, this Fly More Combo includes additional batteries, a shoulder bag, battery hub, and more.

3-Axis Gimbal Camera
The portable Mavic Air houses a 3-axis mechanical gimbal with an angular vibration range reduced to 0.005° and is equipped with dampeners that help ensure steady shooting
4K Video at 100 Mb/s
The Mavic Air can shoot 4K video at 30 fps and record footage at 100 Mb/s
Advanced Onboard Camera
The Mavic Air's onboard camera integrates a 1/2.3" 12MP CMOS sensor and an f/2.8 lens with a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 24mm to shoot high-quality photos and videos
32 MP Sphere Panoramas
In addition to horizontal, vertical, and 180° panoramas, the Mavic Air can stitch 25 photos together in eight seconds to create clear 32MP spherical panoramas
Slow-Motion Video
With support for recording 1080p 120 fps slow-motion video, the Mavic Air can capture even your most high-speed adventure
Improved HDR Photos
New HDR algorithms help you obtain the right exposure settings intelligently, based on lighting conditions
8GB Internal Storage
In addition to an integrated microSD card slot, the Mavic Air comes with 8GB of internal storage so you can save photos and videos directly to the aircraft

    DJI Mavic Air reviews

Mavic Air Fly More Combo (Onyx Black) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far, its SOOOOO GOOD! Really enjoy this piece of equipment. First drone so its a bit much to learn. At first, I wondered why flying the drone seemed to involve so much. However, I have come to appreciate why DJI is the industry leader. The app and controller and all the info you have available to you via the two is supper useful for safe cinematic flying. Many competitors just don’t give you as much to work with. Having said that, I have to admit that out of the box instructions are WACK! It is imperative that you to visit YouTube for tutorials and other user feedback. I’ve learned the majority of what I know by looking at these. And once you have do that, this drone is a fantastic piece of equipment.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for personal use The Mavic Air is a great small drone packed with all the features that you would expect from a DJI product. And like many other DJI products, I would recommend it if you are in the market for a small, capable drone. That said, it won't replace my Mavic Pro because the Air really does have a shorter range and is more easily disturbed by localized electromagnetic interference. I've also had issues with the responsiveness of the gimbal and multiple camera disconnects in panorama mode, both of which I believe will be corrected in a future firmware update.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great!! But beware of NFZs. Love the Air! My first drone and it took a bit of learning to fly. But videos are stunning. But do your research! Living between 3 major airport NFZs makes the AIR nothing more than rock in my backyard. Have to Drive 30 miles to clear NFZs, then this thing is just an engineering marvel!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent capability in a small package! For such a tiny package this thing delivers the goods! The camera is great. Not Phantom 4 pro great (that camera is amazing), but excellent considering the size and portability. My P4P might give better results, but that's not going to do me any good if it's sitting at home. This thing is small enough to take anywhere. They put a lot of thought into the packaging. The little carry case is perfect for just stuffing the thing in a backpack. And the bigger case that comes with the flymorcombo is fantastic. Despite still being small it holds everything - the drone, spares, 4 batteries (one in the unit), 3 battery charger - the works. If you are traveling, bringing this along is a no-brainer. Things I like: - Super easy to bring anywhere - Great distance - Nice camera with RAW capability on photos - Internal8GB of ram (just in case!) - Nice quality of the carry cases - Better low light capability than I expected Things I don't like: - the SDK has not been released yet so you are stuck with just the DJI software. As a big-time Litchi and Drone Deploy user this is the biggest drawback (come on DJI - get that sorted!) - The SD slot was designed for someone with tiny fingers - seriously, you are going to need tweezers. - You can't swap batteries without opening the arms first Existing Mavic owners complain about the range (usually without actually flying it) but, unless you are going crazy distances this will give you everything you need.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Eye in the Sky; after two months This drone represents a remarkable level of design and technology. It does what it promises. Great photos and movies, even in windy conditions. The built-in modes help even novices get quality results before they achieve flight skills. However, customer support leaves much to be desired; not that the support staff aren't willing. I have interacted with several who may know something but can't communicate effectively in English. They tend to plug in standard (poorly crafted) answers that don't address your actual problem. Although you get manuals with the drone, they are not helpful, - mostly about warranty, charging safety, etc. You can download an actual operating manual, but it is sketchy. So, all my technical problems were solved on YouTube (Why are there diagonal lines across the display? How do I switch to 5.4 GHz wifi? . . ) YouTube videos provide a wealth of practical guides, including technical information as well as suggestions on improving results. I recommend Care Refresh (inexpensive insurance, which I have already utilized) and the Combo (you need the extra batteries).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Drone I'm very pleased with my recent DJI Mavic Air purchase. It's amazingly easy to fly and the picture/video quality is outstanding. I'm particularly amazed by the video stability even in a strong breeze. My very first flight was on the edge of windy San Francisco Bay. The drone did admirably in keeping it's position and moving as I maneuvered it around. I was sure that the video would suffer. I was shocked to find that the video was incredibly stable and stills were sharp. The compact size makes it great to take along in my travels. I highly recommend the Mavic Air!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Too much fun! What an amazing piece of technology! I have always talked about getting on but never thought i would. I saw videos about the Mavic Air and decided it was time. It is very easy to fly. I have only stayed in a small area so far learning to control it without having to think about what the controls do. Again Awesome technology. Easy and fun to fly. Also had fast service from B&H.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Way too loud and Wifi is terrible I recently sold my Mavic Pro to purchase the new smaller better Mavic Air. I was very disappointed on my first couple flights. The device is extremely loud. So loud my neighbors came out to see what it was. And the Wifi connection (vice radio) is terrible. I lost connection multiple times while testing.
