Wacom Intuos Reviews

Seamlessly Works on Linux

I bought this to replace a Wacom Bamboo CTH-670 that I had been using forever but accidentally broke the USB port on, purchased specifically because of Linux compatibility. Instead of opening it up to resolder the joint, I decided to update to this model. This new tablet has some improvements over the Bamboo, biggest being it is ambidextrous without reversing the layout and with this the Bluetooth is integrated vs being a module on my older Bamboo. One star got knocked off because the included pen doesn't have an eraser side like my Bamboo did and I had come to rely on that mechanic more than I realized. Button mapping works well enough for a replacement though.

Good for detail work

I have an older Bamboo, that I lost the stylus for. I was going to just going to replace the stylus, but the new table was only a few bucks more. There is a sizeable difference between the old version and the new one. The new is about 1/3 smaller. I also appreciate that the cord is now detachable. I like the indentation for the stylus as well. I do have some minor complaints. The buttons aren't really all the useful, and the power cord is micro-USB rather than USB-C. You do have to download and install a driver, and the instructions to get to the software are nebulous. I did find and install the driver after some hunting around on Wacom's site. Still, the tablet is great for editing photos and artwork, and doesn't take up much space.

No Touch Response

I was so excited about it, but now I just have contempt towards it. I bought the tablet so that I could mask images and zoom at the same time. I imagined using the pen for brushwork/masking/healing and using my fingers to pinch + zoom and move the image around. I can't do that with this tablet. It's a decent tool, but it doesn't serve the purpose for which I bought it. You CAN customize the buttons to zoom in and out, but you still have to use the mouse (or touchscreen) to move your image around. It is very much unlike the touchpads on laptops, which is more what I was expecting, but with a fancy pen. lol The way this tablet works is it is NOT reactive to touch which allows you to rest your hand on it, I guess, for more precise penwork. Unlike the way you can pick up a mouse so you're not running off the edge of your desk while working on the computer, you cannot move the space in which you are working on the tablet. You end up on the edges of the tablet when you're on the edges of your screen which is uncomfortable for me. (There is a way to narrow-in the active part of the tablet to help with this.) In short, this tablet did not meet my expectations. I did not return it because I was hoping it was something I could adapt to or get used to. NOPE. If it's not your cup of tea, don't expect to get used to it. I was so excited about it, but now I just have contempt towards it.

Nice Tablet for Digital Art

I wanted to try my hand at digital painting without spending a fortune on a tablet. I had a Wacom Bamboo in the past so I looked at current models. It was challenging to figure out what size I would like best, but the small tablet turned out to be a great fit. The sale price didn't hurt. I looked at other brands, but Wacom had better reviews and recommendations. It arrived fast and well packed. B&H has massively improved their shipping and packing process from a couple of years ago when they had a lot of issues. Setup was easy and I was soon attempting to draw again after several years away. The pen is sensitive and handles the expression I'm looking for. Using Affinity Designer 2 for art has been a good experience with this tablet. The pen tracks and responds exactly as I want it too. No jumpiness, or erratic behavior. The hover function is good. Nib wear has been non-existent, but I've only used it for a couple of weeks. So far I can't find a fault with it. Hopefully I never have any issues, but at this price it's a great tablet or additional tablet for travel.

A regression in technology

The ancient Egyptians had a more elegant and sophisticated tool than this, it's called paper. Facetiousness aside, I can't recommend this at all. The tablet and pen feel insanely cheap for what I paid, the software is bad, it still has a micro USB. I can't imagine a task where this is preferable either to drawing on paper and scanning, roughing it with a mouse, or moving up to a marginally more expensive alternative like a refurbed iPad or Cintiq. This feels like one of those weird in-between technologies from the 2000s, like the MiniDisc or Windows Vista that has somehow survived to present. I feel stupid for getting one.

A bit complicated to set up and this green color is wonky

I wanted an inexpensive way to get into Wacom, but this may have been a little too inexpensive - the pencil is so lightweight that it has little feel and the color of the casing is a weird light lime green that I wasn't expecting. The B&H photos are usually excellent but the dark surface probably made the green look darker than it is in reality. I see this as being likely a donation to a school in the near future.

Great Tablet for my needs

This replaced an Intuos pen tablet that I've had for years. which did not play well with my new Mac Studio. I like the size, and simplicity of this new medium tablet - works great for any editing that I do in Photoshop and Lightroom - I use a combination of pen, mouse, and keystrokes. The bluetooth works fine, but in my case drops connection when the Mac sleeps, so I use the USB cord. I'm well satisfied - great product, good value.

Perfect for my desktop and use.

Long time Wacom user, primarily for editing in Photoshop. I use a combination of pen and mouse. This replaces an older Intuos 5 Touch which won't run on my new MacStudio. Happy so far, with size and performance. I run it with the USB cord - bluetooth works fine, but disconnects when the Studio sleeps.

I need to draw and save as DXF or Dwg files. Will this create drawings that can be saved in those formats? I assume the drawing program may also be a factor so do the free softwares that come with it save as DXF or Dwg?
Asked by: Allison
The tablet itself is just an input device, creating and saving files would be done through software on your computer. The software demos which come bundled with the tablet do not handle these types of files.
