FUJIFILM 15-45mm f/3.5-5.6 overview

  • 1Description

Sporting a sleek profile and a versatile focal length range, the black XC 15-45mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS PZ from FUJIFILM is a 23-69mm-equivalent zoom characterized by its compact, retractable design. The first power zoom lens in the X-series lineup, this lens allows for electronic zoom control for smooth focal length adjustments. It also features an optical image stabilization system that minimizes the appearance of camera shake by three stops for sharper handheld images. Complementing the handling assets, the optical design incorporates both aspherical and extra-low dispersion elements, to improve sharpness and clarity, and has a Super EBC coating that suppresses flare and ghosting in order to achieve greater contrast and color accuracy.

Standard zoom is designed for FUJIFILM X-mount mirrorless cameras and provides a 23-69mm equivalent focal length range.
Two extra-low dispersion elements are used to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to produce high clarity and color fidelity throughout the zoom range.
Three aspherical elements control distortion and spherical aberrations, which helps to improve sharpness and realize more accurate rendering.
Super EBC coating has been applied to individual elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions.
Power zoom design allows for easy switching between focal lengths and two separate speeds can be selected depending on how the zoom ring is rotated. When recording video, the zoom will move at a constant speed in order to produce a smoother, more pleasing motion.
Using the power zoom capability, the lens also features a retractable design for a more compact form factor when not in use. Additionally, when the camera is turned on, the lens will automatically extend into position for shooting.
Stepping motor, along with an internal focusing design, affords fast and quiet autofocus performance that benefits both stills and video applications.
Optical image stabilization minimizes the appearance of camera shake by 3 stops to better enable handheld shooting with slower shutter speeds.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out-of-focus quality to benefit the use of selective focus and shallow depth of field techniques.

    FUJIFILM 15-45mm f/3.5-5.6 reviews

XC 15-45mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS PZ Lens (Black) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT LENS I wanted a zoom lens that started pretty wide to use on my XPro 2 and be light and small in keeping with the smallish camera that I was going to use it on . Also I did not have a lot of money to spend on it . I took a chance on the order and immediately had the opportunity to use it on the Milky Way , which was my main reason for wanting as wide an angle as I could get within my budget. I was very happy with my first attempt ever at photographing the the Milky Way . This lens made it easy for a beginner . And oh by the way my regular photos are pretty amazing for a Kit lens too . I have 3 primes for my Fuji X put I can picture this lens on my camera the most .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Perfect Size for Your Fuji X Camera Beautiful compact size. The thing I love best about Fujifilm is that when they produce "inexpensive" lens they don't skimp on the image quality. Sure, it's plastic, but the glass is no compromise. Great travel lens. And, oh yeah, it's wider than either of the Pro/Pro-ish short zooms. Love it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Travel Lens I used the lens every day when I was in Japan for 3 weeks. This lens isn't going to set the world on fire, after all, it's a kit lens. For the money, you can't beat it for travel. It's light weight and is a perfect range for wide angle and close up that will serve most of your daytime travel picture needs. I switched to a 35mm f 1.4 for nighttime. Sometimes the power zoom is a little slow to react. Other than that, it takes great pictures.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A compact, entry level that punches far above its weight! As most of you realize, when you purchase an entry level style of "kit" zoom lens, you wind up hoping that you get a good copy. It's a given that with most kit lenses, copy-to-copy variations do exist, and that can become a downer if you get a bad one. This new XC 15-45 is a remarkable lens. Yes, it has a fly by wire zooming mechanism that initially reminds you of the built-in lenses that come with enthusiast long zoom lenses. Once you get over that perception, you will be pleasantly surprised at how sharp optically this lens is. I now have two of these lenses (one silver and one black) and both are superb copies - with clarity levels being very sharp from corner to corner (not just in the center). I tend to shoot anywhere from F6.3 to F8 and you will find the sharpness levels to a cut above. Additionally, the biggest plus in my opinion is the 22.5 MM wide angle equivalent that this lens affords you. As you may or may not realize, even small additions to the wide end (even as low as just 1 MM), are easily noticeable and distinct. Additions on the long end of the telephoto range, however, are not that noticeable. Differences between a 120 MM focal reach and a 150 MM focal reach are not that pronounced at all. But adding just 1 MM or more to the wide end, makes a world of difference. Thus the 22.5 MM focal equivalent on this 15-45 really stands out when compared to the typical 24 MM and 28 MM wide ends that are standard for most kit zoom lenses. In fact, when using this lens to shoot scenics, architectural photography, and large group portraits of people, you'll find yourself "not" wishing you had a wide angle zoom. This 22.5 MM focal equivalent on the wide end really opens up so many additional opportunities. OK, so we know that lens is constructed of all plastic (to include the lens mount portion) - yet the optics are glass obviously - but again, this lens seemingly punches far above its weight in both optical qualities and wide angle reach. As it stands now, I would not hesitate to put this lens on any of my Fuji X bodies. In the end however, it all depends on the copy you receive. I purchased two and wound up with both great copies. Hopefully, the same will occur for you. All in all, among all of the kit lenses I own from Panasonic, Olympus, Canon EOS M, Samsung NX, and Fuji - this 15-45 XC is the sharpest among them all - not to mention adding even more on the wide end of things. Highly recommended and the reason I gave it 5 stars is that I was comparing this lens to other kit lenses within this genre. As a result, it easily stands out (in my opinion of course) from this crowded field.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty Pictures I kept this lens because it makes beautiful images, SOOC. I love the colors and contrast, more so than when shooting the XF 35mm f2. PROS: Lightweight. Feels like nothing on my X-E2s. Great for street and landscapes. Silent, fast auto focus. Super close focus. Plastic lens mount fits securely on camera body. CONS: It really drains my battery. I used to shoot 350 shots per battery. Now it's 190. Say goodbye to low light shots. The 3.5-5.6 aperture results in high ISO and slow shutter speeds. I took this lens to a concert and had maybe two keepers. The manual focus ring is a joke. Yes, it works, but it feels like a plastic happy meal toy. Bottom line is I recommend this lens for daylight, documentary and landscapes. If you shoot dark spaces and/or portraits, look elsewhere.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact and Light Cons First: * Plastic. * Slow zoom response; most noticeable when switching zoom direction. * Slow - f3.5 wide to f5.6 long. What I Loved: * Light Weight - Under 5oz! * Small - powered down, it's only 1 3/4" (44mm) long. * Perfect (for me) travel zoom range. Very wide to portrait. 35mm equivalent of 23mm to 69mm. * Reasonably Priced. (Cheap for a Fuji lens). Did I say this lens is light? Did I say this lens is small? Good sharpness in a superb all around lens. Would like wider apertures to minimize depth of field but that would necessitate a larger, heavier lens. Would rather have manual zoom but that's a small nit to pick. This is a perfect all around lens for traveling and hiking when you don't want to hang a great big piece of glass on the end of your camera.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent choice to match my xt20 I don't want to put heavy, bulky lens on my tiny silver xt20 body, so the choices become limited for zoom lenses. This lens has digital zoom, no aperture ring and lens does not exptend out too far when you turn on the camera, and it comes in silver color. Made with plastic and looks plasticy. This matches my silver tiny xt20 well in form. As for performance, it's average, soft on the edge, don't zoom in too much to examine the image because you will find stuff you don't like. However, for the price and what I use it for family gathering, street shooting and general carry around, it's great. The price point is low, I bought mine used on eBay so I don't really care if it doesn't last. It's now on my xt20 more often than my favorite 23 f2 because the zoom range. The only thing I still don't get use to is the zoom ring which travels extremely short from one end to another so I ended using either 15 or 45 and rarely be able to stay in between. Hence I reduced one star. I would recommend this kit lens As a starter alternative to 16-50, if you are purchasing a small body and with appropriate performance expectation. I don't own 16-50, however from what reviewed, it works more traditionally so it's a good choice if u don't mind the relatively longer barrel.
