7artisans Photoelectric 25mm f/1.8 overview

  • 1Description

Compact and versatile, the Fujifilm X-mount 25mm f/1.8 from 7artisans is an all-manual lens well-suited for portraiture, reportage, and everyday shooting requiring a natural field of view. The bright f/1.8 maximum aperture benefits working in a variety of lighting conditions and also offers greater control over depth of field for isolating subjects with selective focus. Multi-layer coatings have been applied to individual glass elements to suppress flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions. Additionally, a rounded 12-blade diaphragm produces a pleasing bokeh quality.

Compact prime is designed for APS-C-format Fujifilm X-mount mirrorless cameras and provides a 37.5mm equivalent focal length.

    7artisans Photoelectric 25mm f/1.8 reviews

25mm f/1.8 Lens for Fujifilm X (Black) is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unbeatable value For $70, there's really nothing you can complain about with this lens. Nice and sharp, amazing close focus distance. It has a clickless aperture ring if you care about that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A sweet lens for the money My expectations were low, based on the $70 price point, but I am impressed. The lens feels solid and substantial for its size. The rotation on the focus and aperture rings is smooth and tight (we'll see how that holds up over time, but so far so good). Excellent bokeh, color is beautiful. A little soft on the edges at f/1.8 but sharpens up pretty well at f/2 and up. I do wish that theaperture ring would "click" into place when adjusting, but that's a minor critique of an otherwise great lens. I shoot an X-T2, and this lens will probably be my new "everyday carry" lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I can't believe this lens is only $69 I recently switched from Nikon to Fuji. Missing my Nikkor prime but not being flush with cash after purchasing the Fuji, I started reading about the 7 Artisans lens. Having grown up on film photography and fully manual SLRs, I enjoy manual focusing and manually setting aperture as the process makes the entire photographic experience more immersive. And I have found that the more involved you are in the creative process of photography while taking images, the better your final results are. At $69, this prime is a no-brainer and the best value I've ever seen in a prime lens. It arrived in premium packaging, the lens is of much higher quality than I expected - all metal, finished to a high standard, clean inside and out, markings all correct and the aperture and focus rings operate with well-damped precision. The lens mounted smoothly and it looks terrific on my X-T1 and is featherweight compared to the Fuji 18-55 f/2.8. Initial test shots have exceeded my expectations. Excellent color rendition and contrast, center is tack sharp at f/1.8, creamy bokeh and while extreme corners are not sharp wide open, they are not any worse than my Nikkor prime shot wide open. DOF at f/1.8 is amazingly narrow, far narrower than my old Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 prime. The lens has character - it is not sterile like many technically perfect Japanese lenses. It evokes emotion and feeling. It produces organic images with soul. Test shots are sooc jpegs at f/1.8. Considering that the price I paid for this lens was less than the sales tax on the 23mm Fuji f/1.4 prime, I am simply amazed. I highly recommend this lens and am looking forward to using it for my fine art photography.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful lens at a fantastic price This lens is a fantastic piece of glass, especially for those looking so save a couple bucks. The aperture blades make a beautiful bokeh in the background, the f/1.8 allows for a great, shallow depth of field and the click-less aperture ring is such a benefit, in my opinion. I use this lens on the Fuji X-T2 and I couldn't be happier with the clarity and color that this lens brings to the table. I was worried, when I purchased the lens, that the glass would lack clarity and would make the images look flat and unattractive but I was happily wrong. The lens brings a vintage feel to the photos and I couldn't be happier. Now, I should mention that I'm already looking for lenses that offer autofocus because, though I religiously use manual focus, there are times when I wish I could lock in autofocus and grab those quick shots. This, however, isn't enough of a con to beat the CHEAP price that it is. Great lens, great purchase. (As a tip, when you put this lens on the camera, go into your settings and change your camera settings to allow you to "shoot without lens" as this lens won't communicate with the body.)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What can you lose? What can you lose? How about whatever you paid for it. I would have scored it lower, but B&H was kind enough to take it back. Seriously. It should be re-marketed as a specialized "soft focus" lens. It goes from out of focus everywhere at F1.8 to almost in focus around the center at F16. The old disposable cameras made better pictures. I normally never review stuff, but I feel obligated in this case.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Super at its price point! I am using this lens with a Fujifilm XT-20. Excellent for low light use and scenic shots. I have taken some really nice close ups of Spring flowers with this lens. The manual focusing aid (red highlights in areas in focus) on the camera helps a great deal.
