7artisans Photoelectric A401S overview

  • 1Description

Mixing a normal field of view with an exceptionally fast maximum aperture, the silver 50mm f/1.1 from 7artisans Photoelectric is a versatile prime designed for M-mount rangefinder cameras. Distinguished by its bright f/1.1 design, this lens excels in low-light conditions and also affords extensive control over depth of field for isolating subjects and using selective focus techniques. A rounded 12-blade diaphragm also contributes to shallow depth of field work by producing a smooth, rounded bokeh quality.

The lens features a Sonnar-type optical design with 7 elements in 6 groups, and individual elements feature a multi-layer coating to help reduce reflections and ghosting for greater contrast and color accuracy. Additionally, the lens has an all-manual design, and focusing operation is benefitted by engraved depth of field and focusing scales.

Normal-length 50mm prime designed for full-frame and 35mm Leica M-mount rangefinder cameras.
Notably fast f/1.1 maximum aperture affords extensive control over depth of field and also benefits working in low-light conditions.
Sonnar-type optical design delivers a high degree of sharpness throughout the aperture range.
Individual elements feature a multi-layer coating to suppress flare and ghosting for greater contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions.
Manual focus design permits working with subjects as close as 2.3' away.
Engraved focus distance and depth of field scales benefit working with pre-focus and hyperfocal focusing techniques.
Rounded 12-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

    7artisans Photoelectric A401S reviews

50mm f/1.1 Lens for Leica M (Silver) is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great new lens w/ old school look So I've read numerous reviews about this lens and people comparing it to a 10k Leica Noctilux. Thats silly. You don't compare other lenses to a Noctilux, only to other Noctilux lenses. :-) However, this lens has beautiful bokkeh at 1.4-2 and interesting "vintage" bokkeh at 1.1. Its sharp dead center wide open though rangfinder focusing is difficult at 1.1. If I were to compare this lens, it reminds me of older zeiss f/1.4 or canon fd f/1.2 lenses. At f/2.8-4 its almost as sharp as the zeiss 50mm plannar zm. In closing, as the name implies, its an artistic lens that soaks in available light. Great for portraits and renders great on film. Also works great as a short telephoto on the fuji x-series camera w/ focus peaking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprising Little Gem I have had this for about 2 months now. I really like the clarity and the way the colors are interpreted. I usually shoot medium format for all of my serious work, but I will have this with me on my Sony A7. I may purchase another lens from 7artisans soon. You cannot beat the price point. Sorry Leica. ;o/

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nifty little lens This lens is quite capable of producing very good quality images. After using it only a few days, I am quite impressed with it's capabilities. It reminds me of the days when I owned a Noctilux 0.95, all need is a ND filter and I will be ready to compose very sharp pictures even at f1.1!
