7artisans Photoelectric 35mm f/1.2 overview

  • 1Description

Blending a sleek form factor with a bright optical design, the silver, Micro Four Thirds-mount 35mm f/1.2 Lens from 7artisans is a versatile prime well-suited for everyday, available light photography. Its slim and lightweight design mixes well with the fast f/1.2 maximum aperture to suit working in low-light conditions, and also offers increased control over depth of field for working with selective focus techniques. The optical design is also complemented by a multi-layer coating, which serves to minimize surface reflections, flare, and ghosting in order to produce greater contrast and color accuracy in various lighting conditions. Additionally, the lens has a manual focus design that permits working with subjects as close as 1.1' away and its rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

Compact portrait-length prime is designed for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras and offers a 70mm equivalent focal length.
Exceptionally fast f/1.2 maximum aperture benefits working with shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques, and also suits photographing in low-light conditions.
Multi-layer coating has been applied to individual elements and reduces flare and ghosting in order to produce greater contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.
Manual focus design permits working with subjects as close as 1.1'.
Depth of field and distance scales aid pre-focusing and zone focusing techniques.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

    7artisans Photoelectric 35mm f/1.2 reviews

35mm f/1.2 Lens for Micro Four Thirds (Silver) is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing little lens at a great price Just got this in M4/3 mount for a Lumix G9 body. Build quality is very good. The manual focus is just right! The aperture ring is a bit stiffer as it should be. It's reasonably sharp at f/1.2. I think it's VERY easy to miss your focal mark shooting at 1.2 and many people attribute this to the lens rather than ultra low depth of field. No lens is ultra sharp at its maximum aperture. This is no exception. My 50mm F/1.2 AIS NIkkor is sharp on the focal plane at 1.2, but the cost is MUCH more. My biggest complaint is that this lens flares like crazy from sidelight. You really need a lens hood to get the best from this fantastic little lens. I'll be giving it a proper test doing figure photography this weekend. My advice is BUY ONE! For the price you can't get anything like it new for Mirrorless systems. The close focal range is very good also. I am hoping to see more optics from 7 Artisans.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not sharp at 1.2 and has a glow, best for portraits If you're looking for a fast sharp lens for general photography this isn't it. It's soft at 1.2, and has a glow, and it's not sharp until it's stopped down quite a bit. However, if you're looking for a special effects lens for portraits, and use the flaws to your advantage then this is an interesting lens sorta like a Holga. I bought it for a Panasonic GH4, and it's very cheap, so I'll use it for special projects, but I'm going to look for something else as a small carry around lens.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Image Samples I wanted to post some quick test shots to illustrate my review. Shot mostly at f 1.2 on a Panasonic Lumix G9 body. This lens is one of the best deals on the market for a prime lens in Micro 4/3 format. It is NOT a toy lens or "lensbaby" quality. It is very much a classic European Sonnar design like the Zeiss 50mm lenses for early Contax cameras.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lots of character Lots of character for the price. Good central sharpness wide open. Can be tricky to nail focus wide open, even when using magnified view, because the focus ring has a pretty short throw. Flares easily. Overall, though, I like it a lot for some applications.
