7artisans Photoelectric 35mm f/1.2 overview

  • 1Description

Blending a sleek form factor with a bright optical design, the black, Sony E-mount 35mm f/1.2 Lens from 7artisans is a versatile prime well-suited for everyday, available light photography. Its slim and lightweight design mixes well with the fast f/1.2 maximum aperture to suit working in low-light conditions, and also offers increased control over depth of field for working with selective focus techniques. The optical design is also complemented by a multi-layer coating, which serves to minimize surface reflections, flare, and ghosting in order to produce greater contrast and color accuracy in various lighting conditions. Additionally, the lens has a manual focus design that permits working with subjects as close as 1.1' away and its rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

Compact portrait-length prime is designed for APS-C-format Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras and offers a 52.5mm equivalent focal length.
Exceptionally fast f/1.2 maximum aperture benefits working with shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques, and also suits photographing in low-light conditions.
Multi-layer coating has been applied to individual elements and reduces flare and ghosting in order to produce greater contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.
Manual focus design permits working with subjects as close as 1.1'.
Depth of field and distance scales aid pre-focusing and zone focusing techniques.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

    7artisans Photoelectric 35mm f/1.2 reviews

35mm f/1.2 Lens for Sony E (Black) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great small fast manual lens! Like(s): - Focus ring and aperture ring turns with a good amount of restriction. - Solid construction. - Small and has a good amount of weight. - Considerably sharp starting at f/2 and beyond. - Cheap! Dislike(s): - Front cap does not stick well onto the lens. - Horrible flaring when shooting direct to the sunlight. So far I have been enjoying this lens, I do not regret purchasing it. If you are on the look for a manual mirrorless aps-c lens, I would definitely recommend you this!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little lens for crop frame Sony First off I want to say that I'm very impressed with this lens. I shoot with it on my Sony a6300 and its small and beautiful. As expected, the lens lets in a lot of light and has some vignetting wide open. The bokeh is surprisingly nice considering the price point for this lens. There is some chromatic aberration, but its easily taken out in post. It is all metal construction and has a nice focus ring. With focus peaking on the Sony system, hitting focus is pretty easy. While this isn't as sharp as glass thats 10x more expensive, I've found it's sharp enough for portraits and gives a nice look to the photos. I would definitely recommend this product and I think its a good initial portrait lens!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceeds Expectations I was initially interested in this lens because I have never gotten my hands on anything faster than an f1.4, and the idea of picking up an f1.2 for so cheap excited me. Plus, since switching to Sony, I have been needing to replace this focal length in my kit, and I am a sucker for small, compact lenses and camera systems. Being such a cheap lens, my expectations were not huge. This little lens either met or exceeded all of my expectations! It produces decently sharp and usable images wide open, and it's tack sharp, contrasty and punchy in the center of the image from f2 on down. And the Bokeh, forget about it. Wide open it makes your background disappear, and the quality of the bokeh and the transitions between in-focus to the out-of-focus areas, there's just something about it that I love, it's like Wow. Attached are a few samples, one a random pic I snapped of my son, wide open, strait out of camera, the other a more studio-type image shot at f8. It has it's flaws: heavy vignetting at f1.2, and there is a slight vignette throughout the aperture range. It also suffers from barrel distortion that is sort of wavy throughout the frame. The extreme corners are smudged, even stopped down to f8. Also, it is a bit difficult to nail focus wide open. Stop down to F2 or F2.8, and focus is a cinch. It also suffers from pretty bad ghosting, flaring and loss of contrast when shooting into a light source. These issues probably mean that this lens is not suitable for landscapes, or professional work. In my opinion, all of these issues can be overlooked, given what this lens offers - a cheap, fast, sharp "normal" lens that is perfect for street photography, travel, and general photography, and also works for portraits. It's small, fun to use, and produces unique images. For a hobbyist like me, it's perfect. I would buy it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent This is an amazing lens if you have a crop frame camera. If you wanted to only have one tiny lens for a crop frame camera, this would be an excellent choice. The focal length is perfect, it is very sharp and contrasty at f/2 and smaller, very small, very light, quite dense and solid for being so small, has beautiful vintage character, Sonnar design, can focus very close, smooth focus, I love it! I got this as a tiny travel lens, and it is perfect for that. As a Sonnar design, it can go very fast, but it loses contrast and a bit of sharpness at f/1.2 and 1.4. It flares at those wide apertures, which is good and bad. The bokeh at f/1.2 is good, but it has a bit of onion character to the light sources. At f/1.4, the onion character goes away and the bokeh is excellent, and it gets quite sharp and the contrast improves considerably. I consider f/1.4 to be its highlight for character, but it definitely can go to f/1.2 quite well. At f/2, it is truly amazing, sharp, contrasty, 3d pop, just awesome. Considering is size, weight, and price, I consider f/1.4 and f/1.2 to just be awesome added utility and artiness. As Sonnars are known for, they get considerably sharper as the lens is stopped down. This lens is like two different lenses, one is wild, crazy and beautiful, and the other is like clinically sharp when stopped down. I'm super excited to travel with this lens. Cheers

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for the Price I am an amateur photographer on a very strict budget. Having spent what little money I can on budget lenses from both Newer and Meike-both of which are fine-I opted to splurge within my ability on this lens. I love it. It is solidly constructed and works beautifully. Obviously you shouldn't expect Zeiss quality, or even Sony quality, but my photos are sharp, and I prefer this lens for my roaming street pics. I'm traveling in October and plan on using this as my sole lens.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fast But......... I didn't expect much for $145 and really didn't get much as imaging around the edges got a little fuzzy. I have a Sony a7RIII that enables APS-C cropped mode with this lens. Yes, it's fast but the quality of resolution is not up to par with more expensive glass. For certain situations, it's fine. To get a Zeiss lens at these specs would cost over ten time more which makes it more than fine.
