iFi AUDIO AC iPurifier overview

  • 1Description

Reduce the noise caused by AC power with the iFi Audio iPurifier AC Power Filter. It is designed reduce the noise that gets to your system through your power outlets and can be used in modular configurations for enhanced effectiveness.

Active Noise Canceling
The AC iPurifier is designed to actively cancel noise from your power source.
Wireless Purification System
The Wireless Purification System (WPS) is engineered to reduce power line noise without audible or measured side effects, so dynamics aren't hampered.
Modular Design
The AC iPurifier is designed to be more effective if several are used to contain the same type of noisy sources.
Intelligent Ground Connection
The AC iPurifier is engineered to provide a ground without creating a ground loop. You can also connect an optional ground cable.
Smart Polarity and Ground Detection
Intelligent Polarity is designed to automatically inform you of incorrect orientation with a red LED. Lack of a ground is also indicated with a red LED.
Overvoltage Surge Protection
The AC iPurifier is engineered to automatically shut off and stop electricity from passing through your system in the event of an overvoltage spike, helping to protect your equipment from harm.

    iFi AUDIO AC iPurifier reviews

AC iPurifier Power Filter is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Revolutionary product! WOW! I have the Furman Signature 91 pound balanced power unit in my home theatre yet putting this with the Analogue section of my powered speakers right with the Center and two front speakers and one on the same plug of my pre processor takes away so much grunge that it is hard to fathom. I also have a computer desktop audio system with Furman PFI 15 and putting it in back with my 2 powered Kef LS50W and also one with my IFI Galvanizer and USB3.0 and Computer connection did the same thing in that system by taking out a load of grudge on imaginable. Clearly the biggest effect is on anything that produces an analogue signal Processor and Amplifier or Powered speakers. Digital does also have an effect and improvement but to a lesser extent. So far I have 10 of this babies. Once you realize how much crisper things could sound you tend to want to take all the grunge out. I found that to get the best effect as they suggest connect to where the actual device is connected to. I found that if they are connected to a conditioner and you connect the AC Purifier at the wall as opposed to the back of the conditioner in the same set of plugs you will not get a great result. Hence follow their instructions I found it worked exactly as they suggested.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Open up the box, plug it in It's a deceptively simple device to use. Unlike most other power conditioning products, the iFi AC iPurifer connects alongside your A/V equipment's power connections instead of in-line with them. How can this work, you ask? Good question. Most dual receptacle electrical outlets are wired in parallel. This means that each of the three contacts in the top receptacle is electrically connected to matching contacts in the bottom one. This style of connection enables the AC iPurifier to "listen" to noise that is riding on the power feeding the device it's paired with. The AC iPurifier then does something clever--it "plays back" onto the line the noise that it "hears" but reversed in phase. This active signal applied back to the line cancels out (literally, subtracts) high-frequency noise while not affecting the low frequency 60 Hz AC power. If you know how active noise-canceling headphones work, the approach is similar. This is an oversimplification, but I've explained how it works this way so that you'll understand why it might not always work for you. For example, if you have a switched outlet where the bottom receptacle is hardwired but the top one is connected to a light switch, this product can't do much to help. For best (any?) results, the receptacles must be electrically connected to each other. Another important aspect of iFi Audio's power philosophy is that your A/V system should have exactly one ground. Multiple grounds often create ground loops, and the AC iPurifier will not fix these. If you're hearing hum due to ground loops, you're going to have to fix this first by re-wiring your system to have only one ground. Buy an A/V powerstrip to get everything plugged into the same outlet or have an electrician help you to establish a single ground across all outlets that your system uses. Some A/V components intentionally have no connection to ground. The AC iPurifier helps here too by providing a banana-plug style ground terminal. You'll need a cable with a banana pin on one end and either an RCA plug or spade lug on the other. Attach a cable between the AC iPurifier and each ungrounded component to provide the missing ground. It may take some work to find or build this cable, but it's worth the effort to get your system properly grounded. The effect of this product on sound quality is a healthy increase in perceived dynamics in reasonably highly resolving systems. Given how little dynamic range modern music has, that's helpful, but older recordings with better mastering will show off the improvement better. I don't have an objective way to measure the impact on video quality, but unprompted, my wife told me that she was impressed with the boost in contrast and video clarity after I plugged an AC iPurifier into the Furman PL-PLUS C that provides power to our TV and home theater equipment. Once you understand how this device works, using it effectively is not difficult. It's inexpensive, especially for the level of performance it provides. Active noise cancellation applied to power delivery is an unusual (unique?) approach, making the iFi AC iPurifier worth a try even if you have not been satisfied with the results from other power conditioning products.
