Athlon Optics 116005 overview

  • 1Description

Outfitted with a traditional look and feel and engineered for long-range performance, the Athlon Optics 10x50 Neos Porro Binocular is an ideal companion on the trail, in a blind, up a stand, or at the stadium.

The traditional Porro prism light path presents a rich depth of field to help you more easily discern the relative distances between objects being viewed, while creating chassis contours that feel natural and comfortable in your hand. To produce bright and clear high-contrast views with accurate color fidelity, Athlon uses a combination of anti-reflection fully multi-coated optics to maximize light transmission and highly reflective silver-coated BAK4 glass prisms that limit internal light loss and diffraction. The high magnification allows for detailed observations of distant subjects, while oversized 50mm objectives gather copious amounts of light to keep views bright in challenging conditions, such as the pre-dawn and late dusk hours, and help to produce a comfortable exit pupil. Further improving the observational experience is a wide 65° apparent angle of view that minimizes the distracting hand shake common with holding high-power optics such as this.

Complementing the optical performance are construction details that allow the Neos to withstand the elements. The optical tubes are nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof and resistant to internal fogging if the weather turns or they take an accidental spill in a stream or puddle. Protecting the optical components is a composite chassis that is lightweight and durable as well as resistant to the expansion and contraction that metal suffers from and which can lead to fuzzy views over time. Slip-resistant armoring provides a sure grip. Objective lens caps and a one-piece ocular rainguard protect the exterior lens surfaces. To keep the caps and rainguard safe during use, they are tethered to the body and strap, respectively. For those who experience fatigue when holding large optics for long periods, the Neos can be tripod mounted using an optional adapter for easy hands-free use.

Optical Performance
  • High 10x magnification enables detailed observations of distant subjects
  • Large 50mm objective lenses are optimized for use in low light—such as during the early morning and late evening hours, or when peering into dense underbrush
  • Traditional Porro prism light path produces views with a rich depth of field to more easily discern the relative distances between objects being viewed
  • BAK4 prism glass with highly reflective silver coatings produce a comfortable round exit pupil while maximizing light transmission and limiting internal refraction
  • Anti-reflection fully multi-coated optics further maximize light transmission and improve color fidelity and contrast
  • Wide 65° apparent angle of view minimizes the appearance of the distracting hand shake that is common when holding high-power optics, while presenting a spacious and immersive observational experience
  • 342-foot field of view at 1000 yards
Use and Handling
  • Large slip-resistant center focusing wheel is easy to manipulate in cold and wet weather, even while wearing gloves
  • Right-eye dioptric correction allows user to compensate for optical prescription to produce sharper views
  • 56-72mm interpupillary distance adjustment range
  • Twist-up click-stop eyecups for easy use with or without eyewear
  • Tripod mountable with an optional adapter for hands-free use to eliminate vibrations and arm fatigue
  • Extra-long 19mm eye relief allows for more comfortable viewing with reduced eye strain, especially during long-duration glassing sessions
  • Wide 5mm exit pupil will cover pupils as they open and fully dilate in low light to keep the full scene in view without vignetting
Construction Details
  • Durable composite chassis material
  • Composite material is resistant to the expansion and contraction that metal suffers from and which can lead to the optical components moving out of alignment over time, preventing sharp focus
  • Protective rubber armor provides a slip-resistant grip
  • Nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof and resistant to internal fogging when moving through extreme changes in temperature and environmental conditions
  • Tethered objective lens caps and one-piece ocular rainguard protect the lens surface without the fear of losing them when not in use
