Sekonic L308X-U Overview

Exceptionally portable and versatile in its design, the L-308X-U Flashmate Light Meter from Sekonic is a versatile meter that blends both photo and video-oriented functions into a single unit. Equipped with a sliding lumisphere, the L-308X is capable of measuring incident or reflected light via a lens with a 40° reception angle. The L-308X offers three specialized metering modes: a Photo mode for still shooting with aperture and shutter priority, a Cine mode for selecting frame rates between 8-128 fps with one-tenth of a stop accuracy, and an HD Cine mode for those shooting video with DSLR or mirrorless cameras. All these settings can be easily viewed on the backlit LCD display, which can be customized to your liking and automatically lights up when working at 5 EV or darker. Just got the Sekonic L-308X-U delivered. I am following the instructions to use Cordless Flash Mode. I press the Measure button and the Cordless Flash icon blinks. I am triggering a Profoto B10 from the white button on the back, aimed right at the Lumisphere. No change in F reading at all. I've tried all ISOs and shutter speeds. I have full batteries on everything. Is it faulty or am I missing something or is this not compatible with the Profoto B10?
Asked by: Bill
When the Sekonic L-308X-U is in Cordless Flash metering mode, once you press the meter button and the flash symbol on the light meter begins to blink, you have 90 seconds to take your light meter reading. The ISO and the shutter speed should be set to the ISO/shutter speed you plan to use for your image. Instead of pressing the [TEST] button on the rear of the Profoto B10 strobe, you should trigger the flash normally by pressing the shutter button on your camera connected to a Profoto AirTTL remote trigger so the flash fires as the full preset output power, as the [TEST] button will not always fire the flash at full power. Make sure the Profoto B10 is set to [Manual] flash output, not [TTL] output, as the Sekonic L-308X U does not read TTL flash output. If you do the above and you are still having issues with your light meter, you may contact Sekonic directly by e-mailing them at [email protected] or by calling them at 914-347-3302. If you feel your light meter is not working properly and it was purchased within the last 30 days, you may contact Customer Service to return the light meter for an exchange or a refund. But first, I would recommend trying the above, then contacting Sekonic for troubleshooting to ensure the light meter is working properly.

Can it be put on a stand if I'm using an uncorded flash without an assistant to hold the meter?
Asked by: Bill
If you're using a remote trigger like the profoto, you simply take the trigger off the camera and trigger the test button with one hand while holding the flash meter in the other. ends up being easier since you'll want to test multiple locations on the set anyway.
