NiSi NIR-VND-82 overview

  • 1Description

The NiSi 82mm Variable Neutral Density 0.45 to 1.5 Filter is a solid variable neutral density filter that is designed to mount onto lenses with 82mm front filter threads and provides an exposure reduction of 1.5 to 5 stops. The 0.45 to 1.5 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. The degree of density is easily controlled by rotating the front filter ring, helping you to predetermine the additional exposure length required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. For easier, repeatable control over density settings, the front ring is visually demarcated with dots representing different density values and includes a rotation lever to further enable fast and precise positioning of the front ring.

This filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity and color fidelity. Each glass surface includes one layer of nano coating that helps to prevent reflections as well as glare. To enable use with other filters, the front ring features 86mm filter threads which also help to reduce the likelihood of vignetting when used with wide-angle lenses.

Variable neutral density filter allows you to dial in differing amounts of density scene to scene.
0.45 to 1.5 neutral density filter darkens the image, allowing you to photograph with a longer shutter speed or wider aperture than normally required.
Providing a reduction of 1.5 to 5 stops, this filter allows you to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.
Offers increased flexibility to use specific ISO settings or ISO films under bright ambient light.
Provides increased exposure flexibility while using cinema or video cameras within a designated film frame rate.
Each glass surface includes one layer of nano coating that helps to prevent reflections as well as glare.
Side lever allows the filter glass to be easily rotated.
Front filter ring with 86mm filter threads allows for use with other filters and helps to reduce the likelihood of vignetting with wide-angle lenses.
Plastic filter case for storage and transport.

    NiSi NIR-VND-82 reviews

82mm Variable Neutral Density 0.45 to 1.5 Filter (1.5 to 5 Stops) is rated 2.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Vignetting and X-ing on the filter makes it unusable I don't know what supposed to be a purpose of this filter but just using it as normal Variable ND for video is not possible. Vignetting is crazy even on 24mm. On 16mm is completely unusable. When stepped down 5 stops, beside crazy vignetting, X-ing (X shape vignette) gets very visible too. The attached picture is shows evenly lit white background with filter and just clear lens. Notice X-ing and color shift on pictures with filter on. Where the color shift is possible to correct, the vignetting and X-ing is not that easy to correct at all. Also when filter is step-down you can see color fringing on edges of the frame (kind of color rainbows).
