NiSi
NiSi 95mm Variable Neutral Density 0.45 to 1.5 Filter (1.5 to 5-Stop)
Key Features
  • Variable 0.45-1.5 Neutral Density Filter
  • Reduce Exposure by 1.5 to 5 Stops
  • Darkens Entire Image
  • Greater Control Over Exposure Settings
The NiSi 95mm Variable Neutral Density 0.45 to 1.5 Filter is a solid variable neutral density filter that is designed to mount onto lenses with 95mm front filter threads and provides an exposure reduction of 1.5 to 5 stops. The 0.45 to 1.5 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. The degree of density is easily controlled by rotating the front filter ring, helping you to predetermine the additional exposure length required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. For easier, repeatable control over density settings, the front ring is visually demarcated with dots representing different density values and includes a rotation lever to further enable fast and precise positioning of the front ring.

This filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity and color fidelity. Each glass surface includes one layer of nano coating that helps to prevent reflections as well as glare. To enable use with other filters, the front ring features 95mm filter threads which also help to reduce the likelihood of vignetting when used with wide-angle lenses.

Variable neutral density filter allows you to dial in differing amounts of density scene to scene.
0.45 to 1.5 neutral density filter darkens the image, allowing you to photograph with a longer shutter speed or wider aperture than normally required.
Providing a reduction of 1.5 to 5 stops, this filter allows you to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.
Offers increased flexibility to use specific ISO settings or ISO films under bright ambient light.
Provides increased exposure flexibility while using cinema or video cameras within a designated film frame rate.
Each glass surface includes one layer of nano coating that helps to prevent reflections as well as glare.
Side lever allows the filter glass to be easily rotated.

Works As Intended

Great quality of glass, just like everything else from NiSi. Stopper is solid, doesnt push past if you bump it. Worried the lever might break when on camera in bag but no issues sofar, holding up strong. Would definitely rather have it than not have it. A lens cap wont go on over the filter, not an issue sofar, glass is strong, no scuffs.

No X effect, fits under lens hood of Sony 28-135 f/4 PZ

I got the 95mm version. It has hard stops at min/max attenuation and shows no X effect or other artifacts. If the little peg is removed it fits under the lens hood of my Sony 28-135 f/4 power zoom lens. I see no softening or other problems at max telephoto and widest aperture, even in Super35 crop mode on my Sony A7RIII. The product image is not the 95 mm version. On that version the front threads are also 95mm so there is much less step down to the rear 95mm threads. Going only by the photo it would seem impossible to fit under a hood for a 95mm lens, but it fits -- at least for the Sony 28-135 f/4 hood.

If you want to shoot wide open

ND is essential if you want to shoot with your aperture wide open. This is the next best thing if you want to avoid setting up a matte box which will result in spending more money and lugging around more equipment. You can always purchase step down rings to support existing lenses. Always remember to white balance when you stop up or down. Color shift is a thing. There are no perfect ND with no color shifting.

I used this on my Sony 28-135 power zoom lens mounted on my Sony A7s, and it worked perfectly. First time I worked with a Variable ND filter. Love the ease of working with it, and setting the exposure by placing an F stop, then moving the ND to make that F-stop work.

If I use this ND filter on my Sony FE 200-600 G will I still be able to fit the lens hood once I've removed the rotation lever?
Asked by: Darryl
Unfortunately, the lever is not removable and it won't fit with the lens hood on the lens.
