APC SurgeArrest overview

  • 1Description

Provide professional-grade electrical protection against power surges and spikes for computers and electronics using the black Home Office SurgeArrest 12-Outlet Surge Protector with USB Charging from APC. This unit has 12 NEMA 5-15R outlets–two of which are spaced to accommodate larger transformer plugs–and a standard NEMA 5-15P input connection. It uses an input voltage of 120V @ 50/60 Hz with a 15A input/line current, and has a surge energy rating of 2160 joules. There are also two integrated USB Type-A charging ports that provide a total of 2.4A / 5V for devices such as smartphones and tablets. This SurgeArrest model utilizes an integrated 6' power cord and turns on and off using a recessed power switch. Protection is provided by a limited lifetime warranty, and connected equipment that is damaged while the SurgeArrest is active will be covered up to $150,000, subject to APC's terms and conditions.

General Features

2 x USB Type-A Charging Ports (2.4A / 5V)
A total of 2.4A / 5V is provided for simultaneously charging mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets.
Right-Angle Plug
A 90° plug angle allows for equipment and furniture to be placed closer to the wall than with a standard power cord. This also reduces cord stress.

Safety

Catastrophic Event Protection
SurgeArrest components such as MOVs and thermal fuse help ensure an instantaneous reaction to lightning strikes and wiring faults. If the surge components are damaged due to power spikes or over voltage, excess power cannot reach your equipment. Unlike the APC SurgeArrest products, most surge suppressors continue to let power through even after circuits have been damaged, leaving your equipment exposed to other damaging surges.
Fail-Safe Mode
Most other surge suppressors continue to let power through even after their circuits have been damaged, leaving your equipment exposed to future surges. With APC's SurgeArrest fail-safe, once the circuit of an APC SurgeArrest has been compromised, the unit disconnects equipment from the power supply, helping to ensure that no damaging surges reach your equipment.

Convenience

Protection Working Indicator
SurgeArrest will warn you if its circuitry has been damaged by a heavy strike or power line surge and it is unable to provide 100% protection. If still under warranty, APC will then replace your damaged SurgeArrest free of charge.
Building Wiring Fault Indicator
This LED informs users of potentially dangerous wiring problems in the wall circuit.
Adjustable Cable Management
Keeps cords and cables neat and organized.
Receptacle Shock Safety Shutters
Shutters help protect users from accidental contact with unused outlets.
Transformer Block Spacing
Connect bulky transformer block plugs without covering up other outlets.
180° Rotating Cord Retainer
A 180° rotating cord with strain relief offers flexibility in positioning the SurgeArrest and in routing the power cord.

Protection

Lightning and Surge Protection
This helps prevent damage to your equipment from electric power surges and spikes.
IEEE Let-Through Ratings and Regulatory Agency Compliance
APC surge protectors undergo stringent testing by the IEEE, and have been awarded "let-through ratings," which indicate the maximum voltage level that can possibly reach your equipment after a surge or voltage spike has passed through an electric surge protector. Lower IEEE let-through ratings indicate better protection and performance. The APC SurgeArrest series offers performance with a let-through rating of less than 330V for North American products, and a rating of less than 15% for products sold worldwide. All APC products comply with local agency safety requirements, including UL in North America and CE/Kema/Gost/C-tick/A-Tick/Telepermit in their respective regions.
Noise Filtering
Attenuates EMI/RFI line noise that can cause data errors and keyboard lockups, helping to ensure better performance of protected equipment.

    APC SurgeArrest reviews

Home Office SurgeArrest 12-Outlet Surge Protector with USB Charging (6', 120V, Black) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 22.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A solid product I waited a while to write this review to give it some time in use. That being said; I could tell this was a well constructed product right out of the box. From the heavy duty cord to the placement of the plugs plus having indicator lights and a solid feeling on/off switch.. The plugs fit tight and sercure in the unit. You can plug several transformers into it without having to use those 1 foot extensions. This is not a drug store type unit. . I feel comfortable enough to use it for my stereo and a/v equipment. An added benefit is the charging ports which it seems you can never have too many [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Home Office SurgeArrest I received the Home Office SurgeArrest at the same time my wife and I picked up our new RV. We didn't know how few outlets were available until we started to use it so it obvious where the SurgeArrests was going to go. We used it in the bedroom which proved to be a great location, using the usb charging ports for our phones at night. Didn't occur to us after we plugged a few items into it that it also offered great protection from the instant power delivered plugging in the shore-power cord or when the generator kicked in. A must for boats and RV's. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Unit For Home Use The APC PH12U2 is a solid surge protector. We recently had company for a few days so we set this up in the guest bedroom. Our guest was able to plug in all his electrical devices and could charge his phone through one of the 2 USB ports on the strip. Everything worked flawlessly. So, why am I giving it only 4 stars?? 1. Unlike the APC P8 surge protector you can’t lock plugs you are not using. 2. The cord is only 6 feet long. An 8 ft. long cord would be nice. 3. I would have liked to see the power switch either more recessed or placed in a position like the P8 where it can not accidentally be shut off. Overall, this is a great surge protector. Highly recommended! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good with one oversite A good solidly built unit. The sockets are not too stiff, so you are not fighting to get the plugs in. The only downside is the spacing on one side for power blocks having only 2 spaced out enough that no sockets are blocked, of course with 12 sockets in total, this may not be an issue. Having the 2 USB charging ports helps to limit the number of power blocks I need to use. For myself this unit serves all my needs quite well, but some may have an issue if they have a large number of power blocks. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works like a champ This month (so far) my electrical utility - Rocky Mountain Power - has experienced three power outages. Each outage starts with a brown-out followed by a spike on restart. I use the APC Home Office SurgeArrest to protect my computers, my appliaces (most of which have imbedded computers) and other devices that requires spike protection. I have experiences no product failures caused by poor power provided by my utility. The APC Home Office SurgeArrest works like a CHAMP!! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Design Since plugging in my computer-related components; I haven't yet experienced a power surge. At least not that I'm aware of. Regardless - the first thing I noticed about this APC Surge Protector is the design. I really like that it has a flat surface (easy to keep clean), and how about those two USB Charging Ports - what an original idea. Twelve Outlets is quire generous. I live totally off-grid, and appreciate the technology that will keep my equipment safe. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product that takes care of my needs This device has an amazing number of outlets - 10 outlets for small plugs and 2 outlets for larger plugs. It also has 2 outlets for USB connectors. With the 6 foot power cord, it can be used most anywheres but I do wish an option would be to have a longer plug. Some times, power sources are another wall away and an extension cord needs to be used to reach it. It has adequate surge/arrest protection for most instances (2160 Joules). Rated 5 out of 5 by from USB A plus Pros: This 12 outlet surge protector has a 7 plus 5 outlet configuration, the 5 side allows more space for transformers. 2160 Joules rating. The USB outlets are a great feature, 2.4 amps maximum should work on most devices. The 6 foot power cord 's plug is flat topped and to the right. Indicator lights for the ground and surge protection let you know at a glance if the unit is working properly. Good to know that there is a lifetime warranty of the surge protector and a $150,000 connected equipment warranty. APC has great support and customer service from my past experiences. Cons: No protection for ethernet or telephone connections. APC does have units with those features. You have to push hard to seat the plugs, likely will get easier with use. Power cord is a bit stiff. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
