Akitio NT2 overview

  • 1Description

Designed to house two 3.5" SATA hard drives for tasks such as increasing your overall storage capacity, backing up data or creating a high-performance storage volume for video editing, the NT2 U3.1C 2-Bay USB 3.1 Type-C RAID Enclosure from Akitio uses a hardware controller to drive RAID 0, for those who need maximum performance without any data redundancy, or RAID 1, for those who need 1:1 data redundancy and mirroring, at the cost of speed and capacity. For those who do not require a RAID, JBOD and SPAN are also available.

The NT2 U3.1C is equipped with a 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 interface, which is also known as USB 3.1 Gen 2, and interfaces with your host system using a reversible USB Type-C connection. It is also compatible with Thunderbolt 3, and using adapters, USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 are also supported. Although the drive bays natively house 3.5" drives, 2.5" drives can be used when paired with an adapter, such as the Neutrino Bridge.

Akitio's NT2 U3.1C 2-Bay USB 3.1 Type-C RAID Enclosure has been built with a small footprint, making it well-suited for use on your desktop. Included is a 3.3' USB 3.1 Type-C cable and a power adapter. Protection is provided by a limited 2-year warranty.

    Akitio NT2 reviews

    NT2 U3.1C 2-Bay USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C RAID Enclosure is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent fast device! Before buying this I already had a USB3 "B" plug version, and found the quality to be excellent, so had no qualms about buying this "C" plug version. Again, excellent! And the cables were marked with a 10 so I knew they'd work with USB 3.1.gen 2's maximum speed with no issues. Bingo again, and with two Seagate 3.5" Ironwolf 7200 rpm disks as Raid 0, I can copy big 4K files to it at 320 MBps (given a very fast source device). The PC's Gen 2 connection can be "A" or "C", that speed is the same. (For interest, the earlier version enclosure I mentioned did 280 MBps under exact same circumstances)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works perfectly but the case.... Does exactly what it is describe to do. You won't be dissatisfied there. Where there are concerns are the fan continues to run even after you computer shutdown. You have to physically turn the enclosure off. Odd behavior. Second, was the case / metal enclosure came with chipped paint. You could clearly see the metal beneath the black paint throughout. Disappointed to see that. Undermines the quality of the device itself.
