Matthews Hollywood Beefy Baby Triple Riser Reviews

Beefy Stand

It's an awesome tool!

This stand is no joke

First off, know your application. This stand is just right for supporting a Broncolor Siros 800 L with a beauty dish or 4 foot brolly box with sandbags on 2 legs. Overkill for anything lighter, but that is not a bad thing. Even at max extension it only wobbles briefly before settling down. At lower heights using a Matthews Hollywood arm the stand doesn't budge. Also, the orange cross bars look good! Top riser and baby pin is steel, rest of them including the base column are aluminum. Rocky mountain leg will hold your stand and load steady. Locking knob for rocky mountain leg will come all the way out. Rest of the knobs stop before falling out. Another review says that this stand is a step up from a C Stand, of which I have several. They are right. Wider base and sturdier above 7 feet. Going up another step will require going to a junior receiver. Conclusion, I am very satisfied with this stand. Met and exceeded my needs for it. If you have any doubts at all about your C Stands, buy this or go for a junior stand.

A no nonsense stand!

This stand is a great step up from the C stand. When your C stands start looking top heavy and tip slightly from heavy or high loads you know it is time to get this baby or maybe even a medium roller stand. Throw on a few 15 lb sandbags and you are good to go. The Rocky Mountain Leg feature is great for location work. Don't waste your money on mediocre equipment! You will not regret buying this stand.

Great stands, not as heavy duty as expected

These stands are great, workhorses on any lighting set. Was a little disappointed they max out at 20lbs, when competitors max out at 50lb for similar price. Still they are a great addition and glad to have them. Solid build, not too heavy, and will last for years.

Properly Beefy

I adore these stands. Without sacrificing any level of professionalism they are an incredibly versatile and relatively easy to transport addition to my kit.

Is this a good option to hold the Matthews Baby Boom if I don't want a stand with wheels? (BH #MABBM • MFR #427801)
Asked by: Alex
That is not a bad choice for most applications. I would actually recommend the Matthews 387032 stand though. It has a much wider footprint, beefier risers, higher load capacity, and is actually a little less expensive than the 387031. The only downside is that it is considerable heavier and that in some circumstances, you may not want as wide a footprint. Even though the specs say they are the same weight, the 32 seems to be at least a pound heavier.

Do you recommend it for profoto B1x and 5' octabox?
Asked by: Abigail
I have this stand but wish I had bought the heavier stand with a steel riser. The aluminum risers are quite weak and if you intend to use it outdoors with a large octabox wind will bend the riser.

The main differences that the Matthews Digital Triple Riser Sky-Hi Baby Stand offers would be that it's taller at 163" and holds a greater load capacity over the Matthews Hollywood Beefy Baby Triple Riser Stand with Rocky Mountain Leg.
