Rokinon AF 14mm f/2.8 FE Lens for Sony E

Offering a super wide field of view along with an autofocus design, the AF 14mm f/2.8 FE from Rokinon is a prime wide-angle lens for Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras. Its relatively fast f/2.8 maximum aperture suits working in difficult lighting conditions, and its optical design incorporates three aspherical and two low dispersion elements to help reduce distortion and color fringing for improved clarity and sharpness. An Ultra Multi-Coating has also been applied, as well as an integrated lens hood, to suppress flare and ghosting for greater contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions. Additionally, the lens' autofocus motor provides quick and precise focusing performance, and manual focus override is also available for more refined control.

Super wide-angle prime is designed for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras, however can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 21mm equivalent focal length.
Three aspherical elements are incorporated in the optical design to control spherical aberrations for increased clarity and resolution from edge to edge.
Two extra-low dispersion glass elements work to reduce chromatic aberrations; improve overall image sharpness, clarity, and color fidelity; and help to minimize the overall weight of the lens.
An Ultra Multi-Coating has been applied to individual elements in order to reduce flare and ghosting for increased contrast and a neutral color balance.
The integrated autofocus motor provides quick, accurate, and precise AF control. Manual focus override is also available for refining your focus position.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.

Its general wide-angle field of view suits photographing a wide variety of subjects and the fast f/1.4 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light conditions and also enables working with shallow depth of field techniques. All three Lens are amazing. For stills the quality is there however for video like many of the reviews you see on youtube you can hear the af engine. the 14 and 35 is barely noticeable but for the 50mm its pretty loud. Hopefully Rokinon releases the USB lens station soon so we can upgrade the firmware on it.

Can make pretty video on an A7iii, but doesnt always focus

I bought this lens kit to mount on a Sony A7iii, expressly to use as a compact video kit on a DJI Ronin-S. The first project I took it on was for a humanitarian group bringing aid to refugees in Bangladesh. Conditions were pretty rough. It was very hot and rained almost the whole time we were there. The lenses occasionally got a little moisture on them, though for the most part I protected them by wrapping them in a couple of sheets of water-resistant nylon and by hooding my whole camera with a plastic bag. The 50mm lens fogged up at one point, but I suppose thats because the seal between the A7iii and the lens isnt completely air tight, and I did occasionally walk from air conditioning into muggy, 90 degree air. in any case, the lenses survived the tough conditions and performed admirably for the most part. It was the overheating camera that caused me my greatest consternation. Since then I have used the lenses to shoot some footage for a parody web series in brisk Provo, Utah, another humanitarian excursion in cold and wet Adana, Turkey, and a training session for sumo wrestlers in Carson, California. The footage has been pleasing, and I very much like the F1.4 aperture on the 35mm and 50mm. I have shot wide open a great deal, and most of the time I have been able to get the thing I wanted in focus. My biggest problem has been with both the 50mm and the 14mm lens. Sometimes I will point them at just anything and they wont focus. They wont focus on anything. The A7iii is set to Continuous AF, but the lenses just stare at the world and do nothing. I had this problem on a completely clear day, with high contrast subjects in front of me (people wearing dark clothing in front of light-colored tents or a white van, for example), and indoors in the well-lit sumo wrestling gym. I have found that the 35mm lens always snaps to focus quickly, so in all instances where the other two lenses have failed, I have eventually switched back to the 35mm so as to be able to keep shooting. I wonder if there is something I dont know about coaxing those lenses into focusing. I have tried restarting the camera or switching to manual and then back to constant, but to no avail. I have even tried switching from video to photograph mode and switch to Single-shot AF. I have never had a problem with these lenses shooting stills in Single-shot AF. However, if the Continuous AF has stopped functioning and I switch to stills and Single-shot AF then back to video and Continuous, Continuous still doesnt work. Changing to the 35mm lens has been the only solution. So overall, these lenses produce pretty pictures for less money than native Sony glass, and the focus works most of the time. When it doesnt work, though, it doesnt work even a little bit. If there is anyone at Rokinon who can explain to me something that I can do to jog the 50mm and 14mm lens back into proper autofocus function when the stop working, I would love to hear it.

Sony a7sii

I have a Sony a7sii. These lens look really nice and sharp when you catch that right focus point. The Sony I have is terrible at autofocus for video. And these lens turned out not to be the right choice for that. However if you're used to manual focus you'll be fine.

They have made some firmware updates for improved AF performance with specific Sony models. Checking Rokinon's website for firmware updates would provide more specific details to see if your Sony model is addressed in the updates.
