Lenovo 100e Chromebook overview

  • 1Description

The 11.6" 32GB 100e Chromebook from Lenovo is an education-focused system designed for students and teachers. It comes with G Suite for education and is built to withstand the wear and tear of everyday use. Specs-wise, it's powered by a 1.1 GHz Intel Celeron N3350 dual-core processor, 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM, and integrated Intel HD graphics. Its 11.6" display has a 1366 x 768 resolution for crisp and clear HD playback. Thanks to its 180° hinge, you can lay the display flat for an easier time sharing whatever is on-screen. Other integrated features include 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, USB Type-A and Type-C ports, a webcam, a microphone, speakers, and headphone jack. The operating system installed is Chrome OS.

Chrome OS
Using Linux as a base, Google designed Chrome OS to work exclusively with web applications. The user interface takes a minimalist approach, which greatly resembles the Google Chrome web browser. Chrome OS was built for people who spend a majority, if not all, of their time on the computer connected to the Internet. The only application that comes installed on Chrome OS is a special Google Chrome web browser with an integrated media player and file manager. All other applications are accessed by adding apps from the Google Chrome Web Store. Since Chrome OS relies entirely on Google's web apps and access to Google's services, it is highly recommended that you connect to the Internet to optimize your Chrome OS experience.
The 100e Chromebook is MIL-STD-810G compliant and built with rubber bumpers, reinforced ports, and a 180° hinge that won't snap under pressure. Moreover, it's drop-resistant up to 29.5" / 75 cm. Its keyboard features mechanically anchored keys that can't be pulled off and a sealed touchpad that can resist spills of up to 1.39 cups / 330 ml.
All-Day Battery
The battery within the 100e Chromebook is rated for up to 10 hours of use, so you can leave your charger at home.
G Suite for Education
G Suite for Education allows students and teachers to create and share with Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides.
Google Classroom
Google Classroom is designed to help teachers save time, keep classes organized, and improve communication with students. Use it to create classes, distribute assignments, send feedback, and see everything in one place.

    Lenovo 100e Chromebook reviews

    11.6" 32GB 100e Chromebook is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from More for Less. Great value for a tough box. Great for travel. I wanted something I could put in my carry-on and not worry about it. I didn't really need touchscreen as much as I needed something not fragile. Perfect for keeping in touch and killing time on the road. The specs are superior to all the competitions' Chromebooks for twenty percent less. If you lead a google-centric life (websurfing/gmail/youtube) a Chromebook is economical choice and the 100e right now might be the best deal out there. Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best Chromebook at the best price! So, my older Chromebook notified me it has approached its “End of Service.” I tire kicked online to various stores looking at the latest in Chromebooks. For the most part I would’ve had at best 2 years left of their lifespan if I bought any of them on the market now. So, I investigated to see who is coming up with a simple Chromebook like my old Acer C70. Behold the name Lenovo appears; the 100e. Doing the math this will probably last me until 2024 so there’s another 6.5 years of enjoyment out of a great idea. When the Lenovo 100e arrived I opened it up and the first thing that caught my eyes was the rugged construction of the outer shell; a Polycarbonate netbook surrounded by a tough rubber exterior to protect in case of falls. I’m not a klutz where I drop things all the time and I take very good care of my appliances so this is a cool idea. Underneath are not four rubber buttons to support the bottom but two horizontal thick rubber strips made from the same material that surrounds the outside of the netbook. This prevents the slipping and sliding around on a surface while typing. Neat! The keys on the keyboard are larger and feel like a real netbook as compared to my other Chromebook which felt like typing on plastic giving the keyboard a cheap feel. The keys are bigger on the Lenovo. As a matter of fact there are fewer keys on the top row of the Lenovo (12) as compared to the Acer (17). The absence of a caps lock button doesn’t bother me. I’ve familiarized myself with the Alt key + spyglass method when using a friend’s Windows laptop so no biggy there. Operating the touchpad is smooth and much more responsive with out the hiccups from the Acer. The battery life? WOW! 10 hrs on the Lenovo compared to 4 hours on my old Acer. I upgraded from 16 G’s of storage from my Acer to 32G’s of storage plus 4G’s of RAM on the Lenovo instead of 2G’s from my Acer….and all at the same price I paid over 5 years ago. I’ve really stepped up in the right direction. The color on the screen is brilliant and response is as quick as ever. Even my old Acer Chromebook responds at the same speed despite its 5+ years. And the keyboard is spill resistant. Not that I spill any liquid on my keyboard, again I’m not a klutz, but accidents do happen and this is a great feature. This is the basic Chromebook at $199 level. It’s just what I wanted. No extra bells and whistles like touchscreen or flipping it around or turning the screen around 180 degrees or writing with a stylist on the screen. I already do that on my tablet. I don’t feel I need to do this on my laptop or desktop. I only use my Chromebook to create documents and spreadsheets and browse on Google browser so, in a sense, this does replace my old Acer Chromebook and I don’t feel like I have to re-train myself how to do use the device all over again. I’m in familiar territory. Now if Google can only figure out how to solve their software issue so that older Chromebooks and Chromeboxes can stick around so the software can continue to bring updates to their OS or until the hardware becomes defective then they’ll be doing something. For now, this is my first Lenovo product and I think this may not be my last.
