MSI GS65 Stealth Thin overview

  • 1Description
Found in: Gaming Laptops

The 15.6" GS65 Stealth Thin Gaming Laptop from MSI is designed with hardware and features for productivity and gaming. Specs-wise, it has a 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor, 16GB of 2400 MHz DDR4 RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card with 8GB of GDDR5 VRAM. Thanks to its dedicated GPU, you'll be able to play graphically demanding games on its 1920 x 1080 Full HD display. Moreover, the display has a 144 Hz refresh rate and a 7 ms response time for fast and fluid content playback. There are also Thunderbolt 3, HDMI, and mini DisplayPort outputs if you would like to connect it to a larger external display.

For storage, the GS65 Stealth is equipped with a 256GB NVMe SSD. Should you need more space, you can attach additional storage devices using its multiple USB ports. Connect to the Internet via 802.11ac Wi-Fi or the Gigabit LAN jack for a more stable and reliable wired connection. With Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, it can be paired with compatible wireless peripherals to free up its USB ports for more important devices. Other integrated features include an RGB backlit keyboard, a webcam, a microphone, speakers, and audio jacks. The operating system installed is Windows 10 Home (64-Bit).

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 10-Series Graphics Card
NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 10-series graphics cards can deliver up to a 40% increase in performance over the previous generation. Not only are they powerful, they can deliver similar performance to their desktop counterparts with a slight performance difference. This changes mobile gaming, allowing you to max out your game's visuals settings so you can enjoy it at its best. Moreover, this graphics card is VR-ready so you can use it with your favorite VR headset.
Thunderbolt 3
Thunderbolt 3 is a hardware interface that utilizes the reversible USB Type-C connector. Doubling the speed of its predecessor, Thunderbolt 3 features a maximum throughput of 40 Gb/s when used with compatible devices. The connector also transmits data via USB 3.1 at up to 10 Gb/s, and dual-bandwidth DisplayPort 1.2 allows you to connect up to two 4K displays simultaneously. Additionally, you can daisy chain up to six devices from a single Thunderbolt 3 port.

Windows 10 Home

Start Menu
After its hiatus in Windows 8, the Start Menu has returned. Utilizing a combination of the traditional menu system and Windows 8's Live Tiles, the improved Start Menu gives you more information at a glance, showing notification information alongside your applications and other pinned items.
Microsoft's digital personal assistant, Cortana can answer your questions with information gleaned from both your device and the internet at large. You can type or even talk with her, if your system has a microphone. Using her Laptop, Cortana keeps track of your needs and wants, and she learns over time to improve her information gathering skills.
Microsoft Edge
After nearly 20 years, Microsoft has finally replaced its Internet Explorer web browser. With Microsoft Edge, users can write directly on web pages and share notes with friends and colleagues. It also improves the online reading experience by adding a distraction-free mode and read-it-later functionality. Edge also has built-in Cortana integration; you can have her help you find a restaurant, make a reservation, and pull up directions without leaving your browser.
Windows Store
For Windows 10, Microsoft has unified the Windows Store. Now, apps for PCs, tablets, and phones will all be accessible from one place. And with support for Universal Apps, one version of an app can work across all your compatible devices automatically.
Windows Continuum
Windows 10 was designed for a variety of screen sizes and input styles, and with its Continuum feature, it automatically adapts to fit your needs. A Windows 10 tablet on its own requires a touch-centric approach, but attaching a mouse and keyboard will shift everything to a more traditional interface. You can even attach an external monitor to your Windows 10 phone for a near-desktop experience. But it's not just the operating system; Windows Universal Apps take advantage of Continuum as well.
Xbox on Windows 10
Gaming is a big focus of Windows 10. Xbox integration allows for PC players to match up against Xbox One players on supported games, and if you have an Xbox One, you can even stream compatible titles to your PC. Native support for recording with the new Game DVR feature makes it easy to capture and share your gameplay. The new DirectX12 takes better advantage of multi-core processors, giving games a performance boost, even on older hardware. Windows 10 also features native support for virtual reality headsets, such as the Oculus Rift.

    MSI GS65 Stealth Thin reviews

15.6" GS65 Stealth Thin Gaming Notebook is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 30.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful, Portable, Slim, and Elegant The MSI 15.6" GS65 Stealth Thin Notebook is one of the lightest and thinnest gaming laptops on the market. The screen is beautiful. It has an incredible selection of input and output options. It looks and feels amazing when working or playing. It runs smooth and games like a beast. It is everything I was looking for in a high-end laptop. *BONUS* - I had some initial issues with my trackpad drivers out of the box (this turned out to be a Windows issue, not a MSI issue). Their support was surprisingly very helpful and very available. They helped me sort out the issue very quickly!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You won't be disappointed! Saw this was rated #1 by Tech Radar for best gaming laptops of 2018, I decided to go for it. And man was it worth it! Blazingly fast and smooth from stock, It runs every game I've thrown at beautifully at max settings 1920x1080 @ 144Hz. The screen is bright enough and the benzel design with a razor thin edge really makes the screen pop out especially in dimly lit rooms or viewing at night. The overall design allows it to pass as a classy business/professional laptop while secretly welding a powerhouse underneath the gorgeous MaxQ screen with a i7-8750H Coffee Lake CPU and GTX 1060/1070 depending on the config you choose (the 1070 is worth it). I highly recommend and would definitely buy again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing! Amazing! Better then I expected! If you are looking for a hardcore gaming laptop that is portable, light weight and durable then this is the right laptop for you. Super fast with amazing graphics. I use if for filming, editing and gaming and I have to say, it does the job with no issues. One of my best purchases to date.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Almost Perfect Beautiful styling, super powerful. Does everything it claims. Love the keyboard bling! Sharp screen, good sound. Runs everything I've needed it to for games and music production. Cons: fans are a bit noisy, and because of the cooling demands, running it on your lap is not the best idea. The exhaust is on the right side so if that's where you run your mouse, its not very comfortable unless its winter and you require a hand warmer. The mid chassis power plug is also on the right which makes it right where you don't want it to be. Definitely made by a lefty.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome I'm impressed by the build quality of this machine. Maybe I'm just used to the idea of a "gaming laptop" being something that everyone ridicules, but I can't believe that machines like the GS65 exist today. It's extremely powerful, has nice build quality (everyone who complains about its build quality are nitpicking due to its price, although it really isn't as nice as a Macbook or the Blade,) and looks very sleek. It is the perfect package for a college student or anyone who wants gaming performance in a professional shell. Cons: fingerprints everywhere

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Notebook... I have decided to get rid of my old generation loud desktop and replace with a powerful new gen notebook. And from the moment I receieved it, with it's build quality, power packed in a small body, I think I have given the right decision. I am glad the unit came with dual channel 8GB x 2 ram where I was not sure if I was going to receive a single channel 16GB one as the pre-views. The only downside would be, it is a bit challenging to upgrade the ram and nvme ssd. As the motherboard is flipped and inexperienced users might have hard time upgrading.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Laptop for your $! One of the best laptops you'll ever use for weight, size, performance, and overall build quality

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great gaming notebook without the looks of a gaming laptop! Anyone who is looking to purchase this notebook likely has the run down on its specs and performance. This thing is a beast, just like all its competitors in this generation. I originally purchased the Gigabyte Aero 15X because it had received better reviews for build quality. However, that notebook had some faulty keys on the keyboard and I didn't feel comfortable reordering that product, given the keyboard design. I opted for the GS65 instead and, sitting here with both products in hand, I actually prefer the build quality of the GS65 to the Aero 15X. The GS65 is aesthetically pleasing to look at and its aluminum body is pleasing to the touch. It does have a little bit of flex, but that's to be expected with lightweight aluminum notebook. The keyboard is vastly superior to the keyboard on the Aero 15X, with keys that provide good resistance, but never miss a press. The Aero 15X keyboard, on the other hand, has flimsy keys that are prone to missing key strokes. The other big difference for me is that the display seems brighter than the Aero 15X. I believe the two devices use the same display, but the GS65 just pops a lot more in my view. Overall, great product and I would definitely recommend this device over the Aero 15X. At a minimum, if you're deciding between the GS65 and the Aero 15X, don't just gloss over the GS65 because of some negative reviews on build quality!
