  • 1Description
Found in: Gaming Laptops

The 15.6" GS65 Stealth Thin Notebook from MSI is a gaming-focused system with the hardware, features, and aesthetics to match. Specs-wise, it has a 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor, 16GB of 2400 MHz DDR4 RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card with 6GB of GDDR5 VRAM. Thanks to its dedicated GPU, you'll be able to play graphically demanding games on its 1920 x 1080 Full HD display. Moreover, the display has a 144 Hz refresh rate and a 7 ms response time for fast and fluid content playback. There are also Thunderbolt 3, HDMI, and mini DisplayPort outputs if you would like to connect it to a larger external display.

For storage, the GS65 Stealth Thin is equipped with a 512GB NVMe SSD. Should you need more space, you can attach additional storage devices using its multiple USB ports. Connect to the Internet via 802.11ac Wi-Fi or the Gigabit LAN jack for a more stable and reliable wired connection. With Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, it can be paired with compatible wireless peripherals to free up its USB ports for more important devices. Other integrated features include an RGB backlit keyboard, a webcam, a microphone, speakers, and audio jacks. The operating system installed is Windows 10 Pro (64-Bit).

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 10-Series Graphics Card
NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 10-series graphics cards can deliver up to a 40% increase in performance over the previous generation. Not only are they powerful, they can deliver similar performance to their desktop counterparts with a slight performance difference. This changes mobile gaming, allowing you to max out your game's visuals settings so you can enjoy it at its best. Moreover, this graphics card is VR-ready so you can use it with your favorite VR headset.
Thunderbolt 3
Thunderbolt 3 is a hardware interface that utilizes the reversible USB Type-C connector. Doubling the speed of its predecessor, Thunderbolt 3 features a maximum throughput of 40 Gb/s when used with compatible devices. The connector also transmits data via USB 3.1 at up to 10 Gb/s, and dual-bandwidth DisplayPort 1.2 allows you to connect up to two 4K displays simultaneously. Additionally, you can daisy chain up to six devices from a single Thunderbolt 3 port.

Windows 10 Pro

Start Menu
After its hiatus in Windows 8, the Start Menu has returned. Utilizing a combination of the traditional menu system and Windows 8's Live Tiles, the improved Start Menu gives you more information at a glance, showing notification information alongside your applications and other pinned items.
Microsoft's digital personal assistant, Cortana can answer your questions with information gleaned from both your device and the internet at large. You can type or even talk with her, if your system has a microphone. Using her Notebook, Cortana keeps track of your needs and wants, and she learns over time to improve her information gathering skills.
Microsoft Edge
After nearly 20 years, Microsoft has finally replaced its Internet Explorer web browser. With Microsoft Edge, users can write directly on web pages and share notes with friends and colleagues. It also improves the online reading experience by adding a distraction-free mode and read-it-later functionality. Edge also has built-in Cortana integration; you can have her help you find a restaurant, make a reservation, and pull up directions without leaving your browser.
Windows Store
For Windows 10, Microsoft has unified the Windows Store. Now, apps for PCs, tablets, and phones will all be accessible from one place. And with support for Universal Apps, one version of an app can work across all your compatible devices automatically.
Windows Continuum
Windows 10 was designed for a variety of screen sizes and input styles, and with its Continuum feature, it automatically adapts to fit your needs. A Windows 10 tablet on its own requires a touch-centric approach, but attaching a mouse and keyboard will shift everything to a more traditional interface. You can even attach an external monitor to your Windows 10 phone for a near-desktop experience. But it's not just the operating system; Windows Universal Apps take advantage of Continuum as well.
Xbox on Windows 10
Gaming is a big focus of Windows 10. Xbox integration allows for PC players to match up against Xbox One players on supported games, and if you have an Xbox One, you can even stream compatible titles to your PC. Native support for recording with the new Game DVR feature makes it easy to capture and share your gameplay. The new DirectX12 takes better advantage of multi-core processors, giving games a performance boost, even on older hardware. Windows 10 also features native support for virtual reality headsets, such as the Oculus Rift.
Windows 10 Pro
The Pro version of Windows 10 includes all of the features of Windows 10 Home plus many designed specifically for business users, including Hyper-V virtualization, BitLocker disk encryption, and remote desktop access. Devices will also be able to join domains and the Azure Active Directory, and they can even access a specialized version of the Windows Store featuring custom, company-specific applications.

    MSI GS65 Stealth Thin reviews

15.6" GS65 Stealth Thin Notebook is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect business laptop with occasional game play I was looking for a light weight, portable laptop, for work that could play my current set of games (Civ5, Civ 6, Torchlight 2, Diablo 3). This laptop replaced both an old Lenovo t430s (work) and Asus G74SX (gaming). My gs65 weighs in at 4.4 lbs vs 4.1 lbs for my Lenovo, so close enough. Likewise, GS65 is configured with a gtx 1070 with 6GB DDR5 dedicated RAM, vs GTX 560M with 3GB DDR5 of dedicated as compared to my old ASUS. More than enough for the games I mentioned. Noise wise, the MSI is not as quiet as my old Lenovo while working or web surfing, but quieter than the Asus by far. While gaming, the GS65 is by far the quietest. Not silent, but noticeable fan nose. Temperature wise, the GS65 gets hot while gaming. According to the MSI Dragon Center tool it hit a peak 72C for the CPU and graphics card while running through an hour of Diablo 3 on the highest settings. Conversely, it hovers around 40C for basic web surfing and MS office productivity work, which mainly only uses the Intel UHD 630 chipset. The heat is mainly concentrated by the vents near the power button on top and and the fan vents underneath. While the GS65 is going full bore you may feel the heat while typing on fingers or definitely if the laptop is on your lap. I just use a cooling pad, Targus AWE55US to be exact Construction wise the GS65 is not as sturdy as my old Lenovo or Asus. For instance, I feel flex if I lift it with one hand at the corners near the touch pad. No big deal, I just pick it up by the USB ports now. No hinge problems. The LED screen hinges are sturdy and can hold the display at any viewing angle I've used while working/gaming and while moving it around the house with the LED open near perpendicular. Likewise there has been no exhibiting of the hinge closing by itself when its held at 10-20 degrees open, that some youtube reviews has shown. I will say its slightly difficult to open the LED screen when the laptop is fully closed. Maybe it's my oversized fingers, but sometimes I just need to jam a fingernail in to life the lid. The screen is darker then my Asus, but that had a glossy display, and is much brighter than the t430s, which had a matte display. I did not do any color calibrations and set the brightness to max. In any case, it's more than bright enough in my home or business office. The Steel series keyboard LEDs provides great variety and some fun. Enough to get a comment or two when I camp out at Starbucks for meetings. Admittedly, I do not play with it too often now, but knowing the configuration option is there, is nice. I did do a clean wipe of the computer when I first got it and reinstalled windows 10 pro 64bit. Mainly out of habit, but also because the GS65 was delivered with 2 usable partitions , even though there's only one drive installed. I re-partitioned to a single usable partition. The two separate partitions was my only gripe, but that's a personal quirk. Otherwise, I would have only uninstalled a couple of "free" packages (Norton & MS Office Demo) and got on with my life. Overall I am very happy with my experience with the GS65 thus far and expect it to be useful for many years to come.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Design, Great Performance, Little Hot Looks great, feels great, and has performed well so far. I didn't bother doing a clean install, but I did uninstall a bunch of extra stuff. Did a slight undervolt to the CPU which helped. So far, would highly recommend.
