MSI GS65 Stealth Thin overview

  • 1Description
Found in: Gaming Laptops

The 15.6" GS65 Stealth Thin Notebook from MSI is a gaming-focused system with the hardware, features, and aesthetics to match. Specs-wise, it has a 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor, 16GB of 2400 MHz DDR4 RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card with 6GB of GDDR5 VRAM. Thanks to its dedicated GPU, you'll be able to play graphically demanding games on its 1920 x 1080 Full HD display. Moreover, the display has a 144 Hz refresh rate and a 7 ms response time for fast and fluid content playback. There are also Thunderbolt 3, HDMI, and mini DisplayPort outputs if you would like to connect it to a larger external display.

For storage, the GS65 Stealth Thin is equipped with a 256GB NVMe SSD. Should you need more space, you can attach additional storage devices using its multiple USB ports. Connect to the Internet via 802.11ac Wi-Fi or the Gigabit LAN jack for a more stable and reliable wired connection. With Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, it can be paired with compatible wireless peripherals to free up its USB ports for more important devices. Other integrated features include an RGB backlit keyboard, a webcam, a microphone, speakers, and audio jacks. The operating system installed is Windows 10 Home (64-Bit).

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 10-Series Graphics Card
NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 10-series graphics cards can deliver up to a 40% increase in performance over the previous generation. Not only are they powerful, they can deliver similar performance to their desktop counterparts with a slight performance difference. This changes mobile gaming, allowing you to max out your game's visuals settings so you can enjoy it at its best. Moreover, this graphics card is VR-ready so you can use it with your favorite VR headset.
Thunderbolt 3
Thunderbolt 3 is a hardware interface that utilizes the reversible USB Type-C connector. Doubling the speed of its predecessor, Thunderbolt 3 features a maximum throughput of 40 Gb/s when used with compatible devices. The connector also transmits data via USB 3.1 at up to 10 Gb/s, and dual-bandwidth DisplayPort 1.2 allows you to connect up to two 4K displays simultaneously. Additionally, you can daisy chain up to six devices from a single Thunderbolt 3 port.

Windows 10 Home

Start Menu
After its hiatus in Windows 8, the Start Menu has returned. Utilizing a combination of the traditional menu system and Windows 8's Live Tiles, the improved Start Menu gives you more information at a glance, showing notification information alongside your applications and other pinned items.
Cortana
Microsoft's digital personal assistant, Cortana can answer your questions with information gleaned from both your device and the internet at large. You can type or even talk with her, if your system has a microphone. Using her Notebook, Cortana keeps track of your needs and wants, and she learns over time to improve her information gathering skills.
Microsoft Edge
After nearly 20 years, Microsoft has finally replaced its Internet Explorer web browser. With Microsoft Edge, users can write directly on web pages and share notes with friends and colleagues. It also improves the online reading experience by adding a distraction-free mode and read-it-later functionality. Edge also has built-in Cortana integration; you can have her help you find a restaurant, make a reservation, and pull up directions without leaving your browser.
Windows Store
For Windows 10, Microsoft has unified the Windows Store. Now, apps for PCs, tablets, and phones will all be accessible from one place. And with support for Universal Apps, one version of an app can work across all your compatible devices automatically.
Windows Continuum
Windows 10 was designed for a variety of screen sizes and input styles, and with its Continuum feature, it automatically adapts to fit your needs. A Windows 10 tablet on its own requires a touch-centric approach, but attaching a mouse and keyboard will shift everything to a more traditional interface. You can even attach an external monitor to your Windows 10 phone for a near-desktop experience. But it's not just the operating system; Windows Universal Apps take advantage of Continuum as well.
Xbox on Windows 10
Gaming is a big focus of Windows 10. Xbox integration allows for PC players to match up against Xbox One players on supported games, and if you have an Xbox One, you can even stream compatible titles to your PC. Native support for recording with the new Game DVR feature makes it easy to capture and share your gameplay. The new DirectX12 takes better advantage of multi-core processors, giving games a performance boost, even on older hardware. Windows 10 also features native support for virtual reality headsets, such as the Oculus Rift.

    MSI GS65 Stealth Thin reviews

15.6" GS65 Stealth Thin Notebook is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bridging the gap... This is finally the first laptop I've seen that bridges the gap between daily driver, gaming laptop, and workhorse without much compromise. 144Hz screen is fantastic for competitive games like CSGO, the IPS screen has great color reproduction & delta e values for some photo/video editing, and it has the horsepower to back it up. To top it off it has one of the largest batteries I've seen in a gaming laptop so battery life in day to day web usage is actually great. Not being completely stuck to the a power outlet is refreshing in the gaming laptop market. If you want to play more demanding "AAA title" games maybe go for the GTX 1070 version, but for me this GTX 1060 is plenty for "esport" titles. I'm not certain but I'm assuming the power draw (which effects battery life) and heat output is better with the lower tier GPU so it's a decision you'll have to make in terms of which is more important to you I guess. The dimensions are also amazing due to it's tiny bezels meaning you don't feel like you're lugging it around at all. The power brick is also respectably sized too and apparently smaller than the one that came with MSI's previous generation laptop (the GS63). Given you still would want to take it with you, that's a plus in my book. The keyboard by Steelseries is a surprisingly satisfying tactile actually and has individual per key programmable RGB backlight for all those who enjoy that sort of thing. I personally don't so I keep them off, but to each their own! Though I do appreciate that when you press and hold the function button to access the function keys, it lights up all the function keys in red for you to easily see them. I the love small attention to detail like that, thanks MSI. My only two complaints, while small, are that it came with some bloat (that was easy to uninstall to be fair and is to be expected) and how the SSD the partitions are laid out. They're split in two, separated by a recovery partition, and the only way you can combine them (i.e. extend the first partition into the second) in Windows is by deleting that 900mb recovery partition in the middle. I have no idea who thought that was a good idea, but if you're listening MSI, just make it one partition or at least put the 900mb recovery partition AFTER the second usable partition, at the end, so you can let your customers decide if they want to combine them or not. Other than that I'm extremely satisfied, would HIGHLY recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Gaming Laptop Nice product. Great design. That's one of the thinnest gaming laptop on the market. Not only for gaming, I can use it for my office work as well. The screen looks decent, too. This is what exactly what I need. I love this machine.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great gaming/working laptop This is my second msi and I can notice how they working hard to improve with each iteration. this computer is one of those that has the best cost-benefit ratio in the market. I have to say that this is a powerful machine and that I'm happy with the performance and how it looks so you can use it also for working. Great keyboard, screen and good enough trackpad. I'm not giving 5 stars because mane arrive with a dead pixel (not so notorious but ... is there) and the chassis is not so robust compared with my previous one (msi gs60).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than I expected. I really don't game much but I do work as a designer doing everything from print work to motion design and 3D. Before I had the ASUS N550JV this upgrade right here is a big step up, the CPU runs through premiere pro like a breeze and REDSHIFT and Octane really love the GPU. I love the fact that you've really got control of all your power through dragon center fan speeds ETC. When you get your MSI Stealth thin it's cold to the touch I mean really cold, this adds to it being able to run well when you're really pushing it. The design of this laptop is amazing my old laptop really feels like a clunker by comparison plus it really looks good when I take it to presentations also keep getting asked about the RGB keyboard I don't think any video I saw does it justice IT's not tacky and is an added aesthetic that you have full control of . It fits well in a 14icnh camera bag but the screen is immersive feeling almost better than my previous 15.6 inch. The colour calibration is awesome giving you instant modes already setup so for photo and video work this will do. I could honestly go on but if you're an editor, designer, 3D person this is a great laptop for you. My only thing really is getting used to not having a touchscreen, I which this had a touchscreen but my work has improved vastly so I'll take it. Plus out of all the heavyweights this wins on price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My second MSI and I LOVE IT! I've been an MSI fan since myfirst purchase at 2013, the GS70. During that time I was looking for something that was lightweight, travel-friendly, a big screen, capableof gaming and video editing. The GS70 was perfect, it was 17in weighing the same as a Macbook pro 13in during that time and the parts that came with it was top notch! Unfortunately, the battery started to give up on me at the start of 2018, so I decided to get a new one. I went back with MSI again, and this time I was looking for something smaller, but powerful. The MSI GS65 was the one, the looks of it is classy and clean, the best part was the performance. 8th Gen six core, GTX 1060 and is the first laptop that has 144hz screen is amazing!!!!!! I travel a lot and with this 14in body ratio that comes with a 15inch screen is just wonderful. I didn't mind carrying the power brick since it is smaller than before and with that performance, I manage to get my work done anywhere. Overall, this laptop is perfect. Stylish, lightweight, high-performance and price was acceptable. You can never get something as powerful as this and as lightweight as this. Besides, I preorder it and waiting for it for 3 weeks was worth it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Screen, Great Performance Bought this laptop August 2018, after researching all summer for a laptop that would be powerful enough for my projects as a Mechanical Engineering major. I have been nothing but pleased with the performance that I have received. Rendering is very quick on this laptop and I am always the first one to open and render files in class thanks to this. I would say that the only tradeoff with this computer is build quality. It's not the sturdiest laptop however, it is the lightest of its kind and at no point do I feel like it will break on me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome Gaming Laptop After doing much comparison shopping, and looking at other brands, I settled on the MSI GS65 Stealth Thin. Build quality is good, the device is made of a strong feeling aluminum, and the screen hinges are just the right balance of tight, and easy to open. It opens easily with 1 finger and stays where you lift to it, including ALL the way to 180! Note it IS a finger print magnet! lol BUT they include a lovely Microfiber cloth to clean it. The specs are good! I'm NOT a specs junkie, BUT these are nice, including the latest Intel 8th gen i7, generous RAM, and a decent size SSD. Although I now wish I had gone bigger! Also included is a discrete graphics card, which makes it "VR Ready". All this enclosed in a VERY thin and light laptop! My only real complaint, besides the finger prints (which is a non issue for me) is the sound. While it's clear and NOT base heavy (and has a good ability to adjust), it's just not loud enough! Headphones DO help, but I took a star off for this. I really like this laptop. The screen is amazing, easily as good as my "retina" MacBook! It also handles games like a champ with the 144 refresh rate, and the gaming quality specs, while STILL being fairly thin and light! For sure would recommend this laptop to friends!
