Matthews 329040-1 Reviews
Thicker and heavier than a quilt.
They're basically a well-made moving blanket. If you're expecting something magical, you might be disappointed, but they are well made and do the job. If you just need something cheap for a one-off job I'd save your money, but if you intend to use them a lot they will hold up well. Note: They are sort of shiny, so if you were using it in a visible place it might cause some problems (and it may bounce some light if you aren't careful.) This hasn't caused me problems, but worth a mention.
Sound blanket cuts room echoes
It makes my space quieter so I don't have do deal with echoes in my recordings and it has eyelets for hanging it.
The first Matthews product I don't love?
These blankets are fine... that's it... just "fine". They aren't made especially well... not bad, but not exceptional (which is the norm for anything Matthews)... the webbing edges are nice, but the materials of the blanket and edges have a "disposable" feel to them. The grommets are awesome and add value, but honestly... the "producer's choice" blankets I normally use are the way to go. They cost more with shipping, but the producer's choice are thicker, heavier, and have a nicer finish to the fabric... AND they're one side black, the other white... which can be a big help for fill or neg-fill. I'll keep these, but I'm kind of bummed that they're simply "okay" while most things I buy from Matthews are awesome. I couldn't imagine anything Matthews being inferior to another brand I was already using... but these blankets are just that. Fine... but PC is worth the additional cost, no doubt.
Great Sound Blankets
These are will made sound deadening blankets. I hung these on the wall in my studio using screws in the wall and using the built in grommets. What's great about that is, if I need to take them on location, I simply pull them off the screws, fold them up and Im good to go. These also come in handy for blocking light or protecting equipment when transporting. These are heavy blankets and will last for years.
Good, basic sound blankets
Sound blankets are an essential component of any production kit if you have room for them. I use them to reduce reflections off floors and other hard surfaces. It's important to remember that nothing can change the law of physics, so just hanging a sound blanket over a window is not going to quiet the room dramatically. For that, you need triple-paned glass, usually not in the production budget.
High Quality
Good item, a bit overpriced.
Great value, just one knock
This served my purposes perfectly, but I just want to warm that it is slightly reflective. Normally not a big issue but it did take some adjusting for a video with this in the background. It's a light sheen so with lamps on it stood out fairly prominently in the backgrounds.
Lifesaver!
I love my sound blanket! It arrived less than 24 hours after I ordered it. I needed to block the sound of my neighbor who I hear mostly through a door that separates our two apartments. I doubled the blanket and covered the door. It covered perfectly side to side and top to bottom. I'm so happy that I am no longer terrorized by her. I got control over what I hear thanks to this blanket. I improved the quality of my life with this blanket. Yay blanket!!
