WD External HDD Reviews

Quick and reliable storage

This is a very cool external drive for my Mac Mini. Quick and easy connection and responses are totally workable. First time I woke up my Mac Mini plugged with My Passport I was surprised that I could see the contents on this drive. It came back after I reconnected. I wonder if there's a way to keep it available no matter the Mac went on sleep or not.

My computer displays it as 1.8 TB, not 2.0. Other than that it works well.

Having had an issue with an older WD 4TB My Passport External Hard Drive, you may wonder why I bought another one. Well, turns out that I believe the issue with the older one was actually an issue with my iMac and OS update. After recovering the data from my older ED, I reformatted it, and it has worked flawlessly since. Let's just hope that it continues to. I purchased this one just to log my Time Machine back ups.

Great for Mac

This one is perfect for Mac users, and very fast. You have to partition the disk and one works for time machine and the other half for your files to save space on your Mac. (I am not a window user so I wouldn't know how it works on a different system) Thank you B&H you are great. Fast, delivers and great support.

Great backup drive when traveling

I was able to back up my photos every evening on vacation to this drive. I didn't need as many media cards and I had a backup for my photos. It is small and lightweight but has a fast transfer speed

Capacity makes it worthwhile

The capacity you get with this unit is very helpful and a good deal for the cost - which isn't too much. I recently lost two hard drives from my tower PC and have been clawing backups off my Blackarmor NAS. Unfortunately with the Win 11 upgrade I can't do that directly from my PC so I'm copying them to My Passport using my Mac. Its slow, but it's working. Hopefully it will load back to the new drives on my PC a bit more quickly

The description states that it is "mac compatible with reformatting." Will it work with my late 2015 i-mac using Sierra OS 10.12.6?
Asked by: Wayne
I know that MacOS can read NTFS drives, but not sure you'd be able to write. Your best bet would be to format as ExFat which is read/write for both Windows and Mac for copying files back and forth. You would need to format as HFS+ to use as a Time Machine backup drive.
