A medium telephoto prime characterized by its sophisticated optical design, the GF 250mm f/4 R LM OIS WR from FUJIFILM is a 197.5mm-equivalent lens for the G-mount GFX camera system. Offering a mixture of long reach and a relatively bright f/4 maximum aperture, this lens is well-suited to isolating subject matter and working with shallow depth of field techniques. Complementing the visual compression of the telephoto focal length is an advanced optical layout, which uses one Super ED element and two extra-low dispersion elements to control color fringing and chromatic aberrations for a high degree of clarity and color accuracy.

In addition to its optical assets, this lens is also distinguished by its five stop-effective image stabilization system that Minimizes the appearance of camera shake for sharper handheld imagery. It also features a linear autofocus motor that is both quick and quiet, and an internal focusing mechanism limits the overall lens length during use as well as maintains consistent image quality throughout the focusing range. The lens's magnesium-alloy build is also dust-, freeze-, and weather-resistant.

Medium telephoto prime lens offers a 197.5mm equivalent focal length to realize a narrow field of view to suit wildlife and portraiture applications.
Relatively bright f/4 maximum aperture enables a high degree of control over depth of field.
The optical design incorporates one Super ED element and two extra-low dispersion elements to reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing throughout the aperture and focusing ranges for notable clarity and color fidelity.
A linear AF motor is used for quick, quiet focusing performance and an internal focusing mechanism maintains the overall length of the lens during operation and also produces consistent optical performance throughout the focusing range. Additionally, an updated mechanism also fixes the linear motor position when turning the camera off so the focus position remains the same.
Focus Preset function button allows you to recall saved focusing positions for quick switching between focusing distances.
Optical Image Stabilization system compensates for up to five stops of camera shake to help realize sharper imagery when shooting handheld.
Physical aperture ring allows for intuitive adjustment over exposure settings, and incorporates a C (Command) position to permit camera-based aperture setting.
The front element features a hydrophobic fluorine coating to repel moisture.
Dust- and weather-sealed magnesium-alloy construction enables working in harsh climates and temperatures as low as 14°F.
Compatible with optional GF 1.4X TC WR Teleconverter, which extends the focal length to 350mm for even greater reach.

5 star image quality, quality control issue and two issues

Firstly let me say, this is my go to lens, I have the tc, and often use it for king fisher, see images.. The build quality is great, sans two issues, the well documented little foot/handle, which makes carrying this lens a chore and has led to allot of hand, wrist and forearm pain for me. The other build issue is the lens hood. As with all gf lenses I have used they are just cheap feeling especially compared to the lenses. Here though, it goes beyond feeling, as the lens hood being the largest in the series has way too much flex, and effects shooting for those that like to at times hold the lens by the hood (common after holding camera in position for a long time waiting for a bird). I wish someone would make a third party carbon hood, as that would make the most sense. Nikon is guilty of these cheap hoods on recent builds too, so it's not exclusive to fujifilm. Lastly as the title suggests, I had all four lens mount screws come loose and almost lost the whole lens. I tightened them but since there is a significant amount of play in the mount.

I'm glad I held out for this rather than just adapt an old FF lens--it's far superior. The image is clear and sharp from corner to corner. And the OIS is amazing, far better than just IBIS alone. Focus recall is nice to come back to a static subject after hunting around--good for subjects you're waiting on. This is definitely my most favorite lens right now.

About as good as it gets

Terrific optics and image stabilization produce consistently sharp images. There is little fall off in image quality when paired with the teleconverter. The build is first rate. The lens is well balanced and surprisingly light for a lens of this focal length and format. It fits nicely in the bag. Note: the teleconverter adds some weight to the package.

I had originally ordered the GF100-200 f/5.6 as a longish telephoto for my GFX100S. It was light and convenient due to the zoom range. There was nothing wrong with the images it produced per se. But it didn't wow me with the image quality the 100S sensor is capable of. So I returned it and ordered the GF250mm f/4. It is a beast of a lens both in diameter and heft. Although I don't find it too unwieldy with the ergos of the 100S. Focus with the linear motor is surprisingly quick considering the mass of glass being moved around. The image stabilization, combined with the internal IS of the camera is remarkable. Hand holding at 1/30 second with good form yields pin sharp images. Describing the image quality has to go well beyond acute sharpness though. There is a smooth, etherial quality to the way this lens renders. It could best be compared to the way the GF110 f/2 captures an image with a compelling render that draws you into the scene. A few negatives you should consider though. The weight is not something you would want to carry around for very long. The size of it can be a little intimidating to people if you're just doing street corner photography. But to me the main issue with this lens is the foot mount. It doesn't have a Swiss/Arca milling in it. So you have to add one. That just makes it heavier and more of a handful to hold. Second, and most importantly. The rotation lock knob on the mount doubles as a release. When you loosen it and pull it outward, the lens will fall out. I've read reports of it dropping when the knob is inadvertently pulled. There is no good reason for this to be possible and I wish FUJIFILM would correct it. Especially for what this lens costs! But I have no regrets at all about buying the GF250mm otherwise!

Stunning image quality, heavy

This is an amazing lens. I've been waiting for this to be in stock for months. It was definitely worth the wait! The sharpness is unreal and the focusing is pretty reliable. This lens is quite bulky and heavy, so probably won't be coming with me on backpacking trips.

If you're considering this lens you already know the specs, it is; relatively expensive, heavy for carry use, intimidating to subjects, generally the beast described by others. So where does it fit in the toolbox? Personally, these comments will be as a comparison to my Nikon 70-200mm (G and E lenses) as they were my go to for many different shooting situations. I also found that the 180-195mm focal lengths were most commonly my favorite shots...so the Fuji is right there. Obviously as a prime, you will do the positioning and not the zoom. This lens is not really longer than the Nikons' mentioned but the dia. increase is really there and somehow brings to mind, a coffee can. The hood is huge and quite an extension to the overall size (I'm considering adapting a shortened version). Pleasantly surprising is how extremely well this lens, with hood, gathers light! The lens being OIS, coupled with an IBIS body (GFX 100S) performs well! I've leaned on a tree or a sign post and felt that it was needed but on a tripod, certainly not an issue. The results on a RAW final image are superb! A portrait in the park renders every detail at 200 percent! The background bokeh easily separates the subject and is smooth while the focus is even/clear across the frame. I've shot this lens primarily open (f4-9 range) with crisp/sharp results and that larger format look. As for toolbox, I certainly wouldn't make this my only GFX lens but if if you have others and want the 250mm (197mm) range...this lens is superb!

You would need a plate that's compatible with the QR clamp on the head that you're using. There are no "universal" QR plates.

Will this foot mount directly to a RRS BH-55 lever release clamp?

I used this lens last year with a Really Right Stuff clamp bracket. It worked fine. You might clll RRS direct if you need more info.
