QNAP QSW-1208-8C-US overview

  • 1Description

Upgrade your home or business network environment to 10 Gigabit Ethernet connections using the QSW-1208-8C 12-Port 10GbE Switch from QNAP, which supports the 10GBASE-T and NBASE-T standards. This 12-port, unmanaged network switch allows users to take advantage of higher network speeds with their existing Cat 5e and 6a cables. It features four 10G SFP+ fiber ports and eight 10G SFP+ fiber and RJ45 copper combo ports, which service a wide variety of network needs. Compliant with IEEE 802.3az (Energy Efficient Ethernet, EEE), the QSW-1208-8C is energy efficient, with high performance, low latency, and strong functionality. Included are four rubber feet, a power cord, and a rackmount kit. Protection is provided by a limited 2-year warranty.

General Features

Improved Speeds Using Existing Cables with 10GBASE-T & NBASE-T
The QSW-1208-8C is compatible with 10GbE and NBASE-T technologies to provide higher transmission speeds with existing cables. Depending on cable types and their lengths, different speeds can be achieved for faster, more efficient data transfers. The QSW-1208-8C is also backwards compatible to provide connectivity with legacy devices.
Flexible Deployment with Eight Combo Ports
The 12-port QSW-1208-8C switch offers four SFP+ (fiber) ports, and eight SFP+/RJ45 (copper) combo ports for connecting different interfaces to the same switch. With RJ45 interfaces, 10 GbE is supported with Cat 6a (or above) cables. Alternatively, direct-attach copper (DAC) cables can be used with SFP+ ports for connecting to servers inside a rack. The switching capacity of the QSW-1208-8C is 240 Gb/s, helping the switch to achieve the full potential of each port.

Note: For the speed of 10 Gb/s, if the distance between the switch and the device is shorter than 148', a Cat 6 cable can be used.
Quiet & Energy-Saving Operations
With its smart cooling system, the QSW-1208-8C works quietly to help ensure high-speed network performance without generating distracting background noise. IEEE 802.3az (EEE) support also helps reduce power consumption without sacrificing performance or functionality. By dynamically detecting link speeds and activities and adjusting accordingly, the QSW-1208-8C provides energy savings to help minimize lifetime operational costs.
Versatile Installation
The QSW-1208-8C features a modern design that blends in with existing digital homes and offices. A rackmount kit is also included at no extra cost for installing the QSW-1208-8C in a rack.

    QNAP QSW-1208-8C-US reviews

    QSW-1208-8C 12-Port 10GbE Switch is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quiet 10GbE Switch It's hard to find a reasonably price 10GbE switch with 12-ports that doesn't sound like a tornado in your office. This one is very quiet, and although it is a "dumb" switch, it will do the trick if you don't need all of the management features in other switches.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 10GbE coming down in price I use a pair of these between my workstations and a (Nimble Storage) iSCSI SAN - we have VMWare, Mac and Windows systems. The availability of both optical and copper ports was great in my environment as we have some of each. Switches are very stable and show line speed throughput from my testing. These are a great alternative to the Netgear 10 GB switches if you are just looking for dumb unmanaged switches.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Dont miss the word unmanaged in the description As this switch is unmanaged it has no support for even simple network features like VLANs.  VLANs are essential on modern networks, especially at 10G speeds. It does, at least, pass VLANs, so if you have VLAN-capable devices on either side, they will work. (It also doesnt support link aggregation, but thats more forgivable on an 8-port switch.  It does support jumbo frames up to 9K.) There are 20 ports, 12 SFP+ ports, 8 of which overlap with the 8 10GBase-T ports. The primary strength of this switch, in my opinion, is how quiet it is.  Its rated at 18.7 dBa.  That makes it suitable for cohabitation with people, such as in an office environment or at a desk, which is highly unusual for a 10G-capable switch.  (Most of them have very loud fans.)
