SLR Magic MicroPrime Cine 35mm T1.3 Overview

Choosing a smaller size over bulk and weight, the SLR Magic MicroPrime Cine 35mm Lens covers full-frame sensors and features a Sony E-mount. Suitable for 4K origination, each lens in the MicroPrime Cine series features similar size and weight with consistent lens gear positions for rapid lens changes and easier re-balancing when changing lenses on a gimbal.

The lens incorporates a 13-blade iris that provides a pleasing bokeh with natural-looking, out-of-focus highlights. The odd number of iris blades also reduces the appearance of flare off the blades. The lens has an internal focus design so the front of the lens doesn't rotate when focusing, and it has an 85mm outer diameter for compatibility with a wide number of clip-on matte boxes.

Each lens in the MicroPrime Cine series features similar balance characteristics, minimizing recalibration when switching lenses while your camera is on a gimbal.
Internal focus mechanism minimizes breathing and prevents the front of the lens from rotating while pulling focus
An 82mm front filter thread enables mounting filters directly to the lens without using a matte box

This is a fully manual lens that does not communicate electronically with the camera. You have to control the focus and aperture on the lens itself.

Is their a set or line of SLR Magic Lens in addition to the 35mm?
Asked by: Nick
Yes, You should be able to just search for the set. I had ordered a set of lenses but ended up returning the 12mm as it cropped in full frame mode on a Sony full frame camera.

Is there an optical difference between this and the cheaper Mfr#SLR-3512FE?

The differences are subtle and highly subjective, although this one measures in T stops, which are a staple of cinema lenses, while the less expensive one you cited is in F stops, which are used in photo lenses.

While this is a great option for a Cinema Lens at an affordable price, you should expect to see breathing within your shots when changing focus.

what's the difference betwen the microprime cine lenses and the cine II lenses of SLR Magic? I mean, I know the size and weight thing, but I mean in terms of image quality (vignette and aberration at wide open). Thanks!
Asked by: Jep
The SLR Magic Micro Primes are built up around the optics of the Cine II Lenses. Optically there is no difference, it is just a matter of the Micro Prime lenses having a uniform size and placement of gear rings along the product line.

A follow focus system is not required for this lens, but would help with achieving more precise movements, as with any cinema lens.

Does this have electrical contacts to send exif data to the camera?
Asked by: James
I don’t believe there are any electronics. I sent my micro primes back. The 12mm vingnetted seriously on a Sony full frame camera and a Venus Optics or Sony 12-24 shows no sign of vignette.
