SLR Magic MicroPrime Cine 35mm T1.3 Overview

Choosing a smaller size over bulk and weight, the SLR Magic MicroPrime Cine 35mm Lens covers full-frame sensors and features a Sony E-mount. Suitable for 4K origination, each lens in the MicroPrime Cine series features similar size and weight with consistent lens gear positions for rapid lens changes and easier re-balancing when changing lenses on a gimbal.

The lens incorporates a 13-blade iris that provides a pleasing bokeh with natural-looking, out-of-focus highlights. The odd number of iris blades also reduces the appearance of flare off the blades. The lens has an internal focus design so the front of the lens doesn't rotate when focusing, and it has an 85mm outer diameter for compatibility with a wide number of clip-on matte boxes.

Each lens in the MicroPrime Cine series features similar balance characteristics, minimizing recalibration when switching lenses while your camera is on a gimbal.
Internal focus mechanism minimizes breathing and prevents the front of the lens from rotating while pulling focus
An 82mm front filter thread enables mounting filters directly to the lens without using a matte box

Amazing price and quality for the price. The number of blades for this price is insane! You will not regret to buy this cinema lens.

My god what a lens. I mentioned this in my 18mm review, I'll say it again. Really feels like SLRMagic was trying to capture a Cooke series III look, this does that wonderfully. Wide open you get some of the most beautiful swirls, remind me of a petzval lens. You can get solid sharpness from corner to around T2.8(depending on the conditions) which is extremely impressive. Around T8 you can capture a Toland esq level deep focus. Which is insane.

Nice Lens for the $$$

I purchased these as a kit 21, 35, 50, 75mm to run on the Fx9. I really like they way they look and feel, they are a bit of draw backs but, I can live with them. Breathing is there, CA is there, but it like it. I did my research before purchasing so no surprises with them.

I previously bought the 18mm and the 50mm, now I recently incorporated this lens into the set. The 50mm works fantastic, it's smooth, sharp, and all-around a great lens. It snaps right into my camera and allows me to get excellent footage. Sadly I wouldn't say the same for the other two lenses. The 18mm and 35mm provide fantastic video, but I've run into two very important issues that don't allow me to use the full potential the lens is capable of. The 18mm has a really hard time focussing past 15ft at T 2.8 and finally, in order to lock in and out of my camera body I must twist really hard. My 35mm on the other hand can't be used with a focus motor hence it's got a really hard/rough focus ring when it comes to focusing on close subjects. In conclusion, these are great lenses that provide amazing images but they're really a gamble hence 2 of the 3 lenses on my set have some really alarming issues. I just wished I could've noticed in time in order to return them. Now I'm just stuck with a set of lenses that I can't use for the most part if I'm not shooting an interview.

Punches above its weight

I primarily use this lens for narrative work though from time to time I do take it out on corporate jobs. It offers a very distinct look. It has "mojo". It renders a detailed scene without being overly sharp, the colors and contrast are just right and the out of focus areas are smooth as butter. Being super fast is icing on the cake. Probably my favourite lens of all time.

Yes, You should be able to just search for the set. I had ordered a set of lenses but ended up returning the 12mm as it cropped in full frame mode on a Sony full frame camera.

The differences are subtle and highly subjective, although this one measures in T stops, which are a staple of cinema lenses, while the less expensive one you cited is in F stops, which are used in photo lenses.

what's the difference betwen the microprime cine lenses and the cine II lenses of SLR Magic? I mean, I know the size and weight thing, but I mean in terms of image quality (vignette and aberration at wide open). Thanks!
Asked by: Jep
The SLR Magic Micro Primes are built up around the optics of the Cine II Lenses. Optically there is no difference, it is just a matter of the Micro Prime lenses having a uniform size and placement of gear rings along the product line.
