SLR Magic MicroPrime Cine 35mm T1.3 Overview

Choosing a smaller size over bulk and weight, the SLR Magic MicroPrime Cine 35mm Lens covers full-frame sensors and features a Sony E-mount. Suitable for 4K origination, each lens in the MicroPrime Cine series features similar size and weight with consistent lens gear positions for rapid lens changes and easier re-balancing when changing lenses on a gimbal.

The lens incorporates a 13-blade iris that provides a pleasing bokeh with natural-looking, out-of-focus highlights. The odd number of iris blades also reduces the appearance of flare off the blades. The lens has an internal focus design so the front of the lens doesn't rotate when focusing, and it has an 85mm outer diameter for compatibility with a wide number of clip-on matte boxes.

Each lens in the MicroPrime Cine series features similar balance characteristics, minimizing recalibration when switching lenses while your camera is on a gimbal.
Internal focus mechanism minimizes breathing and prevents the front of the lens from rotating while pulling focus
An 82mm front filter thread enables mounting filters directly to the lens without using a matte box

SLR Magic MicroPrime Cine 35mm T1.3 Reviews

Solidly Built

I purchased these as a kit 21, 35, 50, 75mm to run on the Fx9. I really like they way they look and feel, they are a bit of draw backs but, I can live with them. Breathing is there, CA is there, but it like it. I did my research before purchasing so no surprises with them.

Such a great lense for a mid level price! I shot a commercial with this with my Sony a7iii and it was just so clean. I'm a pro but this lense makes me feel like a big shot . The lense delivers crispness like I haven't seen. And my video buddies have been borrowing it, you k one it's good when your peers agree with you on a lense for once!

I love this lens! It produces amazing colors paired with a mirrorless full frame sensor at 4k! The depth of field is incredible! It is a huge steal for the price! It feels and produces images that are SIGNIFICANTLY ABOVE ITS PRICE RANGE!

Superbly built. Feels very premium in the hand. A little heavy. but other wise amazing for a 500 dollar prime

Beautiful lens but test it.

I like these SLR Magic lenses, I bought them to got on my Fuji, X-T4, and it color matches the fuji glass very well, no where near as sharp, but with far cleaner bokeh. This is an acceptably sharp lens, but it will not be winning any sharpness competitions even when stopped down. The colors and flares are gorgeous, and frankly I would have given it a much higher rating it if it wasn't for the T-stops. With any SLR Magic lens you get you need to test it's T-stops, they can be unreliable. I bought a set: 25mm, 35mm, and 75mm. The 25mm T-stops were way off from T2-T8. T2 was closer to T2.8. And T4 was closer to T5.6. Getting the 25mm replaced partially fixed the problem, the T2-T8 T-stops were only 1/3rd of a stop off from the other lenses. Is that acceptable for pro video work? Up to you to decide. For the 35mm which was far more accurate than the 25mm, it had one problem with its stop marks. T1.3 should be a little over a stop darker than T2, but it was only 2/3rds of a stop brighter than it's T2 mark, where it should have been 4/3rds of a stop brighter or at least 1 whole stop brighter. For the lens I received it feels more like T1.5 than T1.3. One of the great things about B&H is their return policy, make sure when you buy lenses made by SLR Magic, that you have time to test and a policy that allows for returns incase they are defective. Others have said that it can take a few tries to get a good copy, but they said that for different reasons, like the gears were to tight, or hard to turn. The optics from these lenses are aesthetically pleasing, so I am willing to work with it's quirks, I would have given them a 5 out of 5 if their T-stops were accurate, or even a 4 out of 5 if they were marked as F-stops.

Looks good so far

I would like to test it more, and would like to update this review as soon as posible, but the lens looks good enough for now, very solid built quality. I don't rate 5 stars because I bought 18mm,25,35 and 50 and the 18 and 50mm had to be returned because they didn't fit my A7sii E mount and had to be returned.

I picked this up in a set of four SLR Magic MicroPrimes, and have not used it more than a week but so far I love its unique character. The image is beautiful and has a vintage feel, it's light-weight and easy to use on my A7SII hand-held, the focus ring is quick and works great even without follow-focus. Loving so far.

Yes, You should be able to just search for the set. I had ordered a set of lenses but ended up returning the 12mm as it cropped in full frame mode on a Sony full frame camera.

The differences are subtle and highly subjective, although this one measures in T stops, which are a staple of cinema lenses, while the less expensive one you cited is in F stops, which are used in photo lenses.

Asked by: Jep
The SLR Magic Micro Primes are built up around the optics of the Cine II Lenses. Optically there is no difference, it is just a matter of the Micro Prime lenses having a uniform size and placement of gear rings along the product line.

How do I fix a Lense none compatible error on my Sony A7iii ? I already Enabled the Realease W/O lens feature.
Asked by: Nicolas
The SLR Magic MicroPrime Cine 35mm T1.3 (E-Mount) (B&H# SLRMP35E) is a lens for Sony full frame cameras such as your Sony a7 III Mirrorless Camera (B&H# SOA73). I would recommend resetting the camera and then using the "Release without lens" setting again. If there is still a problem then contact Sony about their repair service.

A follow focus system is not required for this lens, but would help with achieving more precise movements, as with any cinema lens.
