Sigma Art reviews

14-24mm f/2.8 DG HSM Art Lens for Canon EF is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressed! Had this lens for a week now. First shot astro with it: sharp, only the slightest coma in the far corners, and minimal vignette. For interiors this lens has very little distortion...I couldn't detect any on the tests I did. For general landscape photography it is a very nice range and sharp. Build quality is great. The whole ART line is solid, smooth action. Huge bulbous front element is a bit of a worry for my rough lifestyle, and you'll need filter holders of course.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic I had been looking for something wider for a full frame lens, and got the opportunity to obtain this lens. I love it! 14-24mm on a full frame body! And distortion is minimal even at such a wide angle. The lens also appears to be sharp throughout the frame at all focal lengths. The negatives for this lens are the price, the weight, and the protruding front glass element (can't use traditional filters with this lens). After a while of holding the camera with this lens, you notice the weight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceeds my expectations For a long time look for an ultra wide-angle comparable to the Canon L series but accessible. This Sigma Art exceeds my expectations, is very well built, solid, precise and soft focus. Its rings (zoom and focus) feel good to the touch. Without perceptible aberration or dispersion. Excellent in color Its weight is typical of a very good built lens. Its f2.8 is excellent in low light conditions. I have achieved good photos at f2.8 and 1/60 seconds by free hand. I hope to continue enjoying this excellent lens

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great wide angle lens! I bought this lens for astro photography and landscape but have yet to use it for that. I have however tried it out to shoot a concert in a cave it really was amazed at how sharp this lens can be. I am using it currently on a SONY AR7II with the MC-11 adapter. Pleased so far. Will be using it on a trip to Zion National Park soon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rock-solid Shorter and heavier than my 16-35 type III, I love to carry this lens for wide shots on my 5D Mark IV, along with my 24-105 on my 5D sr. The shorter length of this lens works well with my Cotton Carrier for boulder-hopping hikes. I am very pleased with the optical quality and price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally a great 14-24 F2.8 for Canon users Let me say this outright: as a Canon user I have been envying Nikon users for their superb 14-24 F2.8 for a decade! So when this Sigma 14-24 F2.8 Art lens was announced, I didn't hesitate for a second to get it. In March I happened to transit through Tokyo when getting back to the States, so I ended up getting one inShinjuku on March 23, the day it was made available in Japan. Since then I have mostly used this lens for hotel and airline reviews (right, I am kinda travel blogger). I must say I am deeply impressed. This is the go-to lens if you are shooting in a close-quarter + low light environment. The pros: 1. The ONLY 14-24 F2.8 made available to Canon users. 2 mm wider than the 16-35 F2.8. Isn't that enough?! 2. Crystal sharp center even at F2.8. This makes a huge difference because the reason I prefer 14-24 F2.8 over 12-24 F4 Art and Canon's native11-24 F4 (other than the price) is the extra F stops. 3. Very well built. The rings are smooth and damped. 4. Works well with 5D4 thanks to the latest Sigma firmware embedded within. I heard some S35A and S50A having troubles focusing in LiveView, but this lens isn't (and I hope Sigma have solved that problem w/ the latest firmware update). 5. Unbelievable distortion control. Sigma claims it "zero-distortion". Well, I must disagree. There is a tiny amount of barrel distortion at 14 mm end. But to be honest, if 100-distortion is the worst and zero- the best, then this is probably 1-distortion. Check the images I attach here. The cons (with some caveats): 1. No filter system currently available. This *could* be the nail in the coffin for ditching this lens, if you ask me. Personally I don't use filter that much, so I wouldn't bother, but I know other people do. So it's up to you to decide if you need a filter system or not. 2. The weight. With this and my 5D Mark IV I could probably skip gym every other day and dodumbbell at home. Also the center of weight will shift accordingly, so if you take this lens for travel then be aware. 3. Soft corners at F2.8.But hey, who isn't?Optically speaking when down to F4.0 or 5.6 the corner becomes sharp. Yet there is a big question you should ask yourself: do you really need that much of a corner details at F2.8? - If you shoot landscape or nature, you will probably do fine with F4.0 or above for proper depth of field. - If you shoot tight quarters indoor (like me) the corners will probably be out-of-focus. - Perhaps one valid criticism is for astro purposes. I haven't tried that but based on what I see, 14/1.8 Art would be a better choice if you are *only* shooting Astro. Otherwise, I think I can trade some image quality for convenience and versatility. All in all I am very happy and grateful that Sigma introduced this lens for Canon. For Canon users who want to go wider than 16 mm without sacrificing a few F stops, this 14-24 F2.8 is your top choice. Perhaps its current status of being "Back-Ordered"on B&H speaks for itself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My new favorite Ultra Wide Angle! I’ve been shooting with this lens for a couple weeks now and have absolutely fallen in love with it. I shot both architecture and landscape with this lens and have had no geometric distortion what so ever, the build quality is stellar. It is heavy in weight but that is what I had already expected from Sigma Art Lenses. It out performs all of the wide angles in this similar price range by far!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from How to a lens should be made This is a very good lens. As any lens they are compromises but I think this is the one for me. -The lens itself looks and feel like a precision instrument, like a lens should be made. The rubber rings are very precise, I like it. It feels well balanced on my Canon 6D Mark II despite its weight. - Autofocus. I like to have autofocus on wide angles too. I understand Sigma did some firmware fixes about this, and for me it works great. - Optically this is very good. There may sharper out there (on published curves) but I like what I see especially for its flat field at infinity and near zero rectilinear distortion. Good colors and contrast, little a bit of flare (seen much worse). - Ironically this lens has support for aberration corrections but this is a lens that really don't need it overall (but read next comment). - The only minor flaw I found is image circle clipping at 14mm making vignette correction at extreme edges difficult between f5.6 to f11. This issue just goes away from 15mm upward, luckily! - Coma. It is there but can be controlled somewhat by focusing manually. Personally I think the amount of coma is acceptable. - Lens is compatible with EOS M5 with aberrations corrections. Tested on a 60Da you do not have corrections. So in conclusion, I give 5 star to thank Sigma for releasing such a great lens. I was a bit unsure about the new Canon 16-35mm III huge vignette at 16mm. I thought about the Tamron too but having no firmware updates and older design was a worry. I owned 14mm primes from Rokinon (f2.8 and f2.4) and was very disappointed by bad centering and lack of versatility. Finally, I'm a bit intrigued by the option to shave the lens hood and also wonder if the gel holder option will be proposed.
