Vienna Symphonic Library VSLSYY07 overview

  • 1Description

Available for download, the Vienna Symphonic Library Synchron Yamaha CFX is a virtual instrument that puts a concert grand piano under your fingertips, one that has been meticulously sampled on the Synchron Scoring Stage in Vienna, Austria. The instrument utilizes up to 4200 samples per key, using 10 different microphone combinations to capture the natural ambience of this recording space.

Taking up 115 GB of hard disk space, the Synchron Yamaha CFX provides a natural feel, sympathetic resonances, the ability to half-pedal and re-pedal, and a whole lot more. Six presets are provided for different type of music, but thanks to the intuitive Synchron Pianos Software, you can tailor the piano's responses and timbre to your individual needs. This software is compatible with Mac and Windows, and operates in AU, VST, and AAX formats.

Advanced Release Sample Technology
Capturing notes with all velocities, various tone lengths, and subtle nuances is a challenge in the art of piano sampling. It's particularly tricky when recording the instrument with the ambience of a scoring stage. Vienna's Release Sample Technology comes to the rescue for this situation. A proprietary technique, this technology automatically matches up to 300 individual, finely-grained release samples per key to your played notes. The result is a realistic playing feel and an exacting degree of timbral authenticity.
Customize Your Personal Sound
The Yamaha CFX comes with a dedicated sample player that allows you to shape your sound. This software provides a musician-friendly user interface that allows for quick and easy timbral control. Create your sound intuitively by filtering particular key ranges—or even single keys—adjusting the body resonance of the instrument, or adding a pinch of algorithmic reverb.
Precision and Consistency in Sampling Phase
The recording phase of this Yamaha CFX grand piano project extended over several months, which demanded absolute consistency within the room. To protect the piano’s environment and ensure reliable recordings, Synchron Stage Vienna’s integrated system for heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) provided very consistent climatic conditions throughout the entire recording process.

Furthermore, all samples were recorded using the instrument’s integrated, computer-controlled performance reproducing system. Its noncontact optical sensors detected every movement of all 88 keys (position, velocity and release velocity), as well as the pedals (including half-pedaling) with precision, reproducing delicate nuances of a human performance. Additional hammer sensor-feedback allowed for accurate reproduction of special playing techniques such as rapid note repetition and softly played notes.

What’s more, over the course of several months, Vienna Symphonic Library team members were trained in preparing and tuning the grand piano accurately by Vienna’s leading piano technicians in order to achieve absolutely consistent tuning and sound characteristics during the entire recording process.
