IOGEAR 4K DisplayPort KVMP Switch overview

  • 1Description

Featuring a DCI 4K resolution  of 4096 x 2106 at 60 Hz, the 2-Port 4K DisplayPort KVMP Switch with Dual Video Out & RS-232 from IOGEAR allows users to connect and share dual DCI 4K displays and two USB peripherals between two computers with the push of a button. Users can control two DisplayPort-enabled desktops or laptops using a single keyboard, mouse, HDMI, and/or DisplayPort monitors, as well as expand their peripherals connectivity with USB 3.0, which is also known as USB 3.1 Gen 1, in an effort to utilize faster data rates of up to 5 Gb/s and eliminate redundant hardware.

To use this switch, a DisplayPort or HDMI display, a 104-key wired USB keyboard, and a 2- or 3-button mouse are required on the console end, with a microphone and speakers being optional. On the computer end, a DisplayPort and USB Type-A port are required, with audio ports being optional. Supported operating systems include Windows, Mac, Oracle Solaris, Linux, UNIX, and other USB-supported systems. Included are two DisplayPort cables, two USB 3.0 cables, two audio cable sets, and a power adapter. Protection is provided by a limited 3-year warranty.

General Features

4K DCI Experience
The DisplayPort 1.2 KVMP technology delivers up to 4K DCI (Digital Cinema Initiatives) resolution standard, which is 4096 x 2160 at a frame rate of 60 Hz. This 2-Port 4K KVMP Switch is designed for environments requiring high graphics resolution, such as professional film and video production industries. Customize your video content viewing from one to two monitors, from mirror image to extended image, for a more cinematic experience. IOGEAR's 4K DisplayPort KVMP Switch also enhances consumer electronics applications in motion graphics design, animation, engineering, architecture, and media design.

Please bear in mind that your source must be DisplayPort 1.2 MST compliant to extend viewing. A DisplayPort 1.1 source supports mirror viewing only.
Dual Monitor Experience From a Single Video Input
For those that need to add a second monitor for a full production environment, the IOGEAR 2-Port 4K DisplayPort KVMP Switch with Dual Video Out is a strong solution. Turn your single video input into a dual video output by connecting both your DisplayPort and HDMI monitors and HDMI. This switch is suited for applications like call centers, retail stores, concession stands, outdoor events, and other applications. Host a training session or presentation by mirroring your content to a separate HDMI monitor wirelessly by connecting the KVM switch to an HDMI wireless transmitter, such as the IOGEAR Wireless HDMI Transmitter and Receiver Kit (GWHD11).
Convenient Switching Methods
Switch and access two DisplayPort computers from a simple push button on the front panel, hotkey combination on your keyboard, or 3-button USB wheel mouse. With mouse emulation turned on, quickly switch between connected computers by clicking the wheel button on your 3-button USB mouse. IOGEAR's 2-Port 4K DisplayPort KVMP Switch also offers the option to send RS-232 commands via serial port for source switching, making it well-suited for 911 call centers, broadcast centers, video control rooms, or any application where you need to remotely control the KVM from a different room.
Smart Connectivity
Additional smart connectivity features turn your workstation into a convenient and easy-to-use powerhouse. The Power on Detection feature helps ensure that this KVMP will automatically connect to the next powered-on computer and users can add up to three monitors for an expanded workstation. The built-in USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports allow connectivity of up to 5 Gb/s and provide backward compatibility with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 legacy devices.

Please bear in mind that your source must be DisplayPort 1.2 MST compliant to extend viewing. A DisplayPort 1.1 source supports mirror viewing only.
Cost-Effective Solution
Avoid unplugging and plugging USB peripherals and audio devices between your two computers. Share your peripherals with the push of a button and forget about purchasing additional keyboards, mice, monitors, hard drives, flash drives, printers, and more. Additionally, straightforward firmware updates help eliminate the need to buy upgraded KVMP switches.

IOGEAR 4K DisplayPort KVMP Switch reviews

2-Port 4K DisplayPort KVMP Switch with Dual Video Out & RS-232 is rated 2.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from New GCS 1932M, moving left opened windows or apps issues. I finally got the new high end GCS1932M KVM switch to replace my old IOGEAR GCS1642 which was a DVI KVM switch. ( never seen any issues before with that DVI switch ) I upgraded my work rig two new 2K screens. (BenQ model BL2420-T running at 2560 x 1440@60hz), and I will get two new 4K screens soon, and that's was the main raison why my previous switch get upgraded. I always been pleased before with the IOGEAR KVM switches about there quality and reliability, but unfortunately this time that's changed. ********************************************************* *Things that you must really be aware of before buying that switch * ********************************************************* Since *** DisplayPort doesn't support monitor emulation ***, there is two Major issues that I encountered so far form day one with that new high end KVM switch. Issue 1 When booting or rebooting any of both computers, just right after the login screen, the screen attached to the HDMI port, ** always ** shown a shaking or a jerking image ( but only on the HDMI attached screen ), plus the size and layout is corrupted. ( see the attached picture ) At this stage, if I switch back and forth with the other attached computer, the HDMI attached screen where the image was jerking before get back and work normally. ????? Issues 2 *** EVERY Time *** when switching between both computers, all the opened apps or left opened windows get resized and also get moved to the second display. (All left opened windows or apps always get moved to the screen attached to the ** DisplayPort ** , and never the opposite ) that very annoying when working with many application and left opened windows with a specific layout. Because of this, I'm constantly loosing my working layout, and I need to replace it every time. ( I'm doing CAD/CAM work plus, photo and video editing, so I have plenty of left opened windows every time I switch to the other attached computer ) I also updated the firmware version up to the latest available one V1.1.101, but unfortunately it did not helped at all. I contacted IOGEAR support and opened a bug report for these issues, but from there, unfortunately nothing. At this time, they never even tell or confirmed if those issues could be fixed or not by a firmware update ???? So here is my computers config: computer 1 Windows 7 ( latest build available ) Nvidia GTX960 Computer 2 windows 10 Pro ( latest build available ) Nvidia GTX 1080 TI With that been said, before buying that new high end IOGEAR switch, think twice about what you will really do with it. If you're working with many application and left opened windows like me, keeping in place the screen layout is VERY important. I will update this review if it get fixed one day by IOGEAR.
