Presenting an ultra-wide field of view, the XCD 21mm f/4 is a 17mm-equivalent wide-angle prime designed for Hasselblad's mirrorless medium format XCD system. Well suited for landscape, interior, and architectural photography, this lens is also characterized by its close minimum focusing distance of 1' for creative close-up imaging. Matching the sophistication of the system, this lens features a pair of aspherical elements in its optical design, which helps to reduce spherical aberrations and distortion in order to realize high sharpness and accurate rendering. Like other XCD lenses, the 21mm f/4 has an integrated Central Lens Shutter that is capable of shutter speeds up to 1/2000 sec with flash sync at all speeds, and its internal autofocus design can be manually overridden for precise manual focusing control.

Expensive But Incredible
I have made the decision to spend a significant amount of money and purchase the new top of the line Hasselblad along with three lenses. This lens was the first purchased and I have used it with the 907X till my X2D 100C arrives. This past weekend I really put this lens through its paces and I have been overwhelmed by the results. I have included one image from the shoot but I have two dozen equally impressive images. When viewed at full resolution, the resolving power of this lens is phenomenal. I have used Hasselblad lenses since 1972 and this lens is the equal or better than any lens I have ever used.
Sharp af
Pros - very little distortion - ultra razor-sharp - excellent color Cons - Doesn't focus as smooth as the 135mm does - It would have been nice to see this lens with one more stop (f3) - This lens was targeted for landscape and arch work over all else.
Best UltraWide lens I've used
Minimal distortion and fun to use. This lens is one of the ultra high quality wide angles that does have some weight to it. I mainly use it for landscape, but feel that this is also indispensable for interior photography. This does have a filter thread despite usually some at 21mm not including it. The sweet spot, I'd say, is about f/8, though I shoot at f/11 without a problem. Lens flaring is a challenge; I wouldn't use this if that's what you're trying to achieve. The hood does get a bit hard to put on and off. I've taken a ton of pics with this and I still can't seem to get the hang of how to get it on in the first try.
A perfect compliment for your Hasselblad lens quiver
This is my second Hasselblad lens. I also purchased the 45mm f/4, which I love, but I needed something wider which is why I purchased this lens. I was also looking at the 30mm, but looking through each of them on my 907x at the BH store it quickly because clear the 30mm/24mm equivalent was not much wider than the 45mm, but the 21mm was perfect. Not too wide where it distorts things, but just on the edge before distortion. The build quality is solid and it includes a very nice leather lens case and lens hood made of metal. The lens works great for shooting things like landscapes where you want to also catch something interesting in the foreground. It also works nicely for tight street photography where you zone focus and you are literally right up on people. So overall I’d say it’s a great lens which gives you many options in terms of how it can be used. Strong buy recommendation from me.

I was hesitant, but decided to take the plunge. It all started with getting the 907X to revive the old 500 C/M system with the trifecta (50/80/150CF lenses). The 50mm just wasn't quite wide enough with the crop factor, so I looked into the 21 and 30mm XCD lenses. I finally decided on the 21 since there's really no CF lens that can equal that angle of view whether on the 500 C/M or 907X. The results are stunning straight out of Phocus2. The problem is now I want every single lens in the line up, and not eough money... I wouldn't hesitate recommending this lens to any enthusiast or professional.
Excellent wide angle complement to my XCD 50C II system
I ordered the 21mm lens to complete the first two lenses I acquired with the Hasselblad system (45mm and 90mm). I've now used the lens on several photo projects. I am impressed with the quiet shutter compared to the old model 45 and 90 lenses. The super wide angle produces some extremely sharp and detail images. It is interesting to pair the wide angle exposures with the in camera XPan mask, processed with Phocus software. The panorama impact can be felt in some sample print tests. Will need to print some larger format photographs.
