Manfrotto Befree Live Tripod System Reviews

Love the tripod

I bought this to go with my Sony AX-700 video camera as well as our Nikon camera. I bought it to use at my Daughters video games and when I go out in the boonies in Alaska. It is light, easy to use and while others had issues, feels very well made. I have used it over a dozen times without any issues. Folds up to a very small profile for easy Carry not to mention coming with a bag that fits extremely well, not like some bags where once you get it out, you can never get it back in. The tripod is smooth and even when filming and is a great item for anyone on the go who doesn't want to carry the extra weight. You will not go wrong with this tripod.

The upgrade I was looking for

I've been using the Manfrotto Element for a couple years and finally got tired of 1) the allen nuts coming loose at the joints and 2) not being able to see the leveling bubble. This solves both of those and I gain a fluid head with a ball joint to boot, love it so far.

Great tripod and plate holder is standard size for Manfrotto tripods, so interchangability is great for run and gun between tripods, monopods, etc.

Caused me lose my opera lens

Was shooting a home for a real estate company. I had my canon 6d Mark 2 with the Tokina Opera 16-28. Why I was hiding myself from the shot inside the kitchen, a chiwawa just slid out of nowhere and hit the tripod. it was too late to catch the tripod. My opera lens hit the ground (from about 4.5ft). One facet of the lens hood broke off. Very disappointed. If you are going to shoot with this, please make sure at least one hand and your site are on it at all time. Do not attached heavy things to this set. I do own other tripods. The Vanguard Alta Pro 2 , which I have own for years, knock this tripod on all considerations (sturdiness, and quality). I wish I could returned this thing before it did deceived me, I did not have a chance to take it out for a shoot except open the box and check the height.

I was looking for a small lightweight tripod to take with me in travels and that is just it! The tripod is reliable, excellent construction and you know, Manfrotto's quality. I'm totally satisfied! It was a GREAT deal!

I was stepping down from a much higher end system and just needed something light and easy to carry around with a BMPCC4k, mainly for personal work. The tripod is light and happy with this but the fluid head is very mediocre. I think my old photography tripod head for stills is more fluid than this. Very disappointed with the head, they have a nerve calling it a fluid head.

Best ultra-compact travel tripod for video

Finally, Manfroto has solved all the problems. The carbon version is super light and impressively stiff. Even fully extended at maybe 5.5 feet it is perfectly good, thanks in part to the surprisingly smooth pan and tilt, and the intelligent layout of locking controls and leveling adjustment. Of course it is only good for small cameras, but a Sony a7S3 body with a relatively lightweight 180mm Tamron was well within range for this incredibly small travel tripod. Easily fits in any carry-on. My only suggestion would be to make the pan handle at a bit of an adjustable angle rather than straight up and down, for tight situations. But that is minor.

Is it possible to somehow use a Manfrotto 200PL quick release plate on this head?
Asked by: Oscar
Yes, you could install B&H # MA323 on top of the head. You would need to attach this quick release assembly to the quick release plate, but from there you will be able to use 200PL-14 plates. https://bhpho.to/2cjY1Xe

Can I use this tripod system with the Canon XF705?
Asked by: Robert
I think (in my opinion) the XF705 is too heavy for this little guy. I have a Sony A7III, and with a 24-105 or a 14-24 lens, it doesn't "feel" super solid. If i leave it for a couple of minutes the head will creep to a slightly different angle. However, if you want to try it, then, i would suggest replacing the head with a more robust one. The legs should handle it.
