Not All I Had Hoped For

B&H is great, best customer service Ive ever dealt with (Im 66 and been buying from the internet for many years).   There was some confusion about the unlocked status of this particular edition of the phone, they researched it and determined it will work for me.   So far (day 10), it does... This phone had some disappointments. 1) Screen size - 6.3 - but most of that is extra tall.   The screen is only about 1/4 inch wider than both of my 5 phones, and skinnier than my old, nasty, low-end Blu 6 inch phone.  The pixel density is high, so things are clear.   And the extra length helps some when using the split screen feature (which is nice to a point, but cumbersome to use). 2) Speed vs. battery.  This is the fastest phone Ive ever owned (default settings).  It advertises 14 hour battery life.   But to get that life, you need to choose a battery conservation setting that throttles the processor.  So, you can have full speed, or decent battery life, but not fully both.    I have not tried to extend the battery life.  I dont live on phone, not at all, not even close.  So far Ive not drained the battery enough in 1 day to matter.  I charge it every night, and have a good charger in the car, just in case. 3) Icon themes - it offers many, many, many free icon themes, but I had to look at dozens to find one I liked.  I want functional, not cutsie, artistic, or gaudy and I want to know easily what the icon means (there were some odd ones).   Ive not had this difficulty, with previous phones (this is my 6th - I keep the same phone a long time).  4)  SIM 2 slot is hybrid (SIM 2 *or* SD card).   I knew that going in,  but would have liked to have 2 SIMs *and* an SD card option (on this very high-end phone).  There is a lot of storage to start with, but,  Im using 1/4 of the storage just for apps.    Actually, B&H only offered (when I bought, at least) the 64 GB version,  I would have gotten 128 (for peace of mind) if it had been offered (assuming the price was proportionate).  5)  Both SIM slots can support 4G LTE, but not at the same time.   There is a setting, either 4G/3G/2G Auto select,or,3G/2G Auto select.   I tried to set them both to 4G... but each time I choose 4G... for one, the other is automatically downgraded to 3G....    Actually this may not be all that important - Ill only be using data on one SIM at a time (either the US SIM in US, or the Taiwan SIM in TW).   But, I have to remember to switch the setting, each time the plane lands.   And there area number of features on the good side: The hardware quality seems excellent.   The fast charge is very nice, and it is even nicer that the phone tells you if it is charging or fast charging and predicts the remaining time till full charge.  It wakes to the lock screen, when you pick it up.   Im using the Iris recognition unlock - very handy.   It is an international phone, and, this one, importantly, defaulted to English for initial set up (your mileage may vary).   There are many other new features offered by this phone.   Some Im not interested in (at least not yet) and other I have not yet learned about.  All-in-all, it is a sweet phone. I havent used the camera yet - just peaked. Lots of features, good resolution (you can get higher, but Im not sure more is important).   I walked into a darkish hall, to test the low-light sensitivity.   A little better than my previous phones, but Ive seen much better on a friends phone.   Again B&H is great. David

I have been using the phone since December and I highly recommend it. Great sound quality and no dropped calls. I am using it on the T-Mobile network. Unfortunately I dont get T-Mobs Wifi calling feature on this phone. Con: With my VPN app turned on, Mobile Data off, Wifi on: Calls go directly to Vmail when I have a weak T-Mob signal. (Trying to resolve with different config settings).

I am not under any phone contracts so I never get to upgrade at a good price. I have to buy all my phones out right. When the Note 8 came out, I saved my money and paid around $1000 for it. Unfortunately it broke on me few weeks ago, but FORTUNATELAY B & H had a Note 8 in the gold which I wanted, brand spanking new and half the cost. I could not be happier

I used to have Note4 and it was wonderful.  I have nothing but problems with calls.  They go straight to voice mail.  B&H replaced it once with a brand-new one and this one has the same problem.  I asked them to give me any other but Note 8, but no success.  Now I am stuck with a $600 phone that I can not use.

    Asked by: William
Yes, I believe it will be; however, I can can only speak regarding AT&T. It's compatible with AT&T; very much unlocked. The only weird thing with my phone was the intended sale country (UAE-United Arab Emirates). It has coupons on Samsung Pay for UAE, Ramadan days are built into the calendar, & an adapter for their power supply. No worries; box also had an adapter for US. Love the phone; great deal from B&H.
