Profoto Softlight Beauty Dish Overview

The 20.5" Profoto White Softlight Beauty Dish Reflector is designed to give a wide, uniform, and softlight as well as shadow definition when mounted to a Profoto flash head. The gradual fall-off makes it perfect for close-up beauty photography.

The center disc that blocks out the direct light can be replaced by a semi-opaque opal glass disc to create a center hot spot which also eliminates a donut-hole effect in specular highlights.
Each reflector can be supplemented by a honeycomb grid to create soft, toned-down edge-lighting.
The Softlight Grid accessory yields 10° coverage for more directed light.

Punchy pro level modifier

I was looking for a beauty dish that would work with my profoto b10plus heads and decided on the white version. I didn't want too much contrast which could possibly make it an occasional use and less useable for tamer lighting situations. It fits my b10 heads perfectly, is built beautifully and is bigger than it looked in the photos here on b & h. Although these are crazy pricey I have to say they are no less than top tier light modifiers that produce a gorgeous and punchy light style. I have only used it once in a client session but that was all I needed to determine if it was a keeper and it's definitely that. Although it can be used for full body shots, it's sweet spot is 3/4 or tighter, especially if you are using a darker background where you will see the edges of the reflector itself imprinted on the background. On a white or light background it will blend in nicely. All in all you can't go wrong with this beauty dish. If you travel or take it on location I highly recommend the bag they recommend in the accessories for it. It's also pricey but so is the beauty dish and you don't want it beat up.

The beauty dish is a must-have if love that middle point between hard light and soft light. It's ideal for fashion portraits and beauty photography. Quality is great, just a little prone to scratch in the back. I use it all the time with my D1's.

Great light modifier as expected. Well built, but too expensive - the standard Profoto formula. If you can part with the cash, you won't be sorry. Two things of interest are (1) As between the silver dish or white dish, the silver produces harder / edgier light BUT with the addition of a diffusion sock, it calms that light into a much softer look. So, with the silver dish, one can bring out both hard and soft light. The white dish produces lovely soft light....but can't produce the harder, edgier look of the silver. Silver dish = better value. (2) I wasn't sure if I needed to purchase an extra Profoto speed ring in order to be able to affix the dish on to the B1 strobe. Turns out, you do not as the dish has the rubber mount on the back as part of the dish itself. Nice! Saves an additional $$expense. Gave four stars only because of the price. This dish is super nice, but for almost $400, I think Profoto takes advantage of those (me) who tolerate such expense because of our view that the B1 and/or B2 strobes are superior to other choices.

I use all the time for business head shots and pageant head shots. I just LOVE the color I get. Now I do use with the diffusion glass, and a glass dome head on my D1....I kept adding them one at a time, but all 3 is the magic formula for me! I bought a cheaper sock and it changes the color, so I will end up purchasing the Profoto brand next.

No adapter is needed. The Profoto White Softlight Beauty Dish Reflector (20.5") has a built-in Profoto speed ring compatible for use on the Profoto B10 Plus OCF Flash Head.

As other's have answered... the Beauty Dish (aka the Softlight Reflector) already has a built in mount, so it would not be possible to use it with a Speedlight Speedring.

This beauty dish mounts onto the flash head not the stand or boom. This is a Profoto beauty dish and it mounts on flash heads like any other Profoto reflector. The flash heads mount to all booms and stands.
