Really Right Stuff Mk2 Overview

The TQC-14 Mk2 from Really Right Stuff is one of the lightest and most compact tripods in the RRS product lineup. As a scaled-down version of other Series 1 models, the TQC-14 maintains most standard features like ratcheting leg locks and a carbon fiber construction, but also adds new features like a reversible and removable mounting stud and a stabilizing hand strap.

Constructed from Really Right Stuff's patented carbon fiber weave, the TQC-14 weighs in at an impressive 2.6 lb and can safely support up to 25 lb. Its 4-section leg design and center column allow the tripod to extend to a maximum height of 58.5", and still reaches a notable 47.6" even when the center column is retracted. Plus, it can go down to a minimum working height of just 3.3".

Quick set-up and break-down is facilitated by easy-to-use twist locks that require a very short rotation to unlock and re-lock each leg section. This design also helps to maintain the tripod's slim folded silhouette. A ballast/hand strap has also been added to the bottom of the tripod collar to allow users to increase stability by hand or with additional weights. Additionally, when traveling with or storing the tripod, the entire support can fold down to just 17.7" in length, small enough to fit into nearly any backpack or carry-on bag.

Each leg is attached to the tripod's collar via an offset leg joint that helps to evenly distribute heavy loads and maintain the tripod's rigidity. The joints and collar itself are constructed of lightweight anodized aluminum which, aside from lending inherent strength to the tripod, also provides it with natural wear and corrosion resistance. The collar's base plate utilizes a reversible 1/4"-20 or 3/8"-16 stud that can provide direct mounting of a camera or head. The stud can also be removed entirely, providing the user with a female 1/4"-20 socket for use with a variety of accessories including magic arms and accessory supports. Additionally, three 1/4"-20 threads are also available for easily mounting accessories. Each one of the three leg joints also feature a ratcheting angle stop that automatically locks into place as the legs are folded downward into "standard" position.

The TQC-14's feet are a unique teardrop shape, which prevents the leg sections from touching the ground at even the lowest height settings and the most unusual angles. Their rubber exterior provides a non-slip grip on nearly any surface and can be used both indoors and outdoors without concern. For users wishing to change the native rubber feet to metal "all-terrain" spikes, a set of metal spikes are available separately.

  • Twist locks with integrated wipers to keep particles out of the locking mechanism, providing better resistance to the elements
  • Improved knurling pattern designed to feel better on your skin
  • Collets replace the old locking gibbs, reducing lock engagement to half the travel to lock and unlock faster with less effort
  • O-rings help keep threads clean and smooth while providing better tactile feedback
  • Vented clevis design allows legs to collapse faster without pressure buildup
  • Threaded sockets on the sides of the apex provide better placement for accessories like QD attachments or a BC-18

Shockingly lightweight and sturdy!

The lightest and easiest tripod I've used. Paired with a RRS ball head. The first time I've had a tripod that was perfect in the studio and delightful to take to-go. Wish I had come around to this sooner.

I’m 5’4, 115lbs female. I was looking for a tripod that I could take when I travel and hike. Weight, durability and stability were at the top of my list as well as price. In the end, I had to concede on price but I have no regrets. This tripod weighs in at 2.6lbs and is extremely stable. It also has a hook that you can hang your backpack for added weight. Quality construction with 25lbs weight capacity. I paired it with the RRS BH-30. This tripod will not be left behind like I used to do with my old one.

Lightweight & fits in carry on bags.

I purchased this so I can have it on the plane with me instead of checking it. Great tripod, sturdy and well built. Highly recommended!!

This is a well built, sturdy tripod intended for taking along on the trail because of it's smaller size and lighter weight. It is not intended for rock solid studio type use, but It does it's job very well. I purchased the TQC-14 Series 1, after doing research on many other good brands. In the end, the choice went to an American manufactured product that earned some brand loyalty with the ownership of my RRS BH-40 ball head. My rating nicks one star because of the frustration encountered with rigging a shoulder strap. The tripod is designed for taking along on a hike, and although much effort was incorporated into quality engineering, there was no thought given to easily carrying the thing. Sure, they have a strap system for a Series 1 tripod. But to my amazement, the system isn't compatible with (this) Series 1. A RRS Pod QD collar fits on the leg fine, but there is no accommodation for a connection to the apex. I eventually solved this problem by purchasing a RRS QD collar for a leg, a separate D ring for that collar and a key chain ring around the neck at the apex. This provided two connection points for my shoulder strap. It now easily goes with me anywhere, and I'm very pleased with the setup. In the end however, an expensive tripod should have provided a way to carry the thing on a hike.

Did not know RRS made a Tripod that would be considered a compact travel tripod. Chose this over the Gitzo based on its reputation and the fact that its made in the USA. I matched it up with the RRS BH30 ball head and the combination is a work of art. If you do not live near B&H or RRS you will have to purchase this unseen. You will not be disappointed and its worth every penny.

Yes, it's expensive but I won't need another tripod in my life. The lightness and build quality of this tripod is beyond reproach. It's very easy to set up and take down. I paired this with the BH-30 ball head which works well with this tripod as well as the RRS table top tripod. I'm also a big proponent of supporting American companies.

PRIMER PRODUCTO QUE COMPRO DE ESTA MARCA QUE NO ESTOY CONTENTO, CON LA COLUMNA TOTALMENTE ELEVADA, O CON SOLO PARTE DE ELLA, VIBRA LA CAMARA HASTA CON EL PASAR DE UNA MOSCA, Y SIN COLUMNA ES UN TRIPODE MUY BAJO, NO SE LO RECOMIENDO A NADIE! TENGO MUCHOS TRIPODES, Y HASTA AHORA EL MEJOR HA SIDO EL MANFROTTO MT055CXPRO4 DE FIBRA DE CARBONO, ESE AGUANTA HASTA UNA BUENA TORMENTA! POR LO QUE CUESTA DEBERIA SER MAS RESISTENTE!!! I AM THE FIRST PRODUCT THAT I BUY FROM THIS BRAND THAT I AM NOT HAPPY, WITH THE COLUMN COMPLETELY RAISED, OR WITH ONLY PART OF IT, THE CAMERA VIBRATIONS WITH THE PASSING OF A FLY, AND WITHOUT A COLUMN IT IS A VERY LOW TRIPOD, I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT TO NOBODY! I HAVE A LOT OF TRIPODS, AND SO FAR THE BEST HAS BEEN THE CARBON FIBER MANFROTTO MT055CXPRO4, THAT LASTS UNTIL A GOOD STORM! SO COST SHOULD BE MORE RESISTANT!!!
