The CT-3586 Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod and Triple Action BZ-226T Ball Head from Oben is a lightweight five-section support, which has twist locks that open with just a quarter turn, and each section extends along with the one-section center column to a maximum height of 62.5". With its three variable leg angles, it allows you to splay the legs out and replace the regular center column with the included low-angle center column, so the tripod can go to a minimum height of 8.5".

To store or transport the tripod, the legs fold in the reverse to a compact 16.6". Furthermore, one leg is detachable and can convert into a working monopod with a maximum height of 65.2". Each rubber foot retracts back to expose a metal spike that can be wedged into softer terrain for extra support and stability.

The Arca-type BZ-226T ball head, which includes the QR-20 quick release plate, can support cameras that weigh up to 27 lb, and it easily positions the camera at a 90° angle because of the cut notch on the side of the head. There are three knobs on the ball head; one to control the movement of the ball, the second allows you to rotate and pan a full 360°, and the distinguishable knob in the middle of the other two knobs enables you to dial-in more tension to the ball. Thus, the drag of the ball is intensified and less creep is involved if more weight is added.

5-Section Tripod Legs
The lightweight carbon fiber telescoping legs open and close by turning the twist locks a quarter turn, and the legs fold in the reverse to a compact 16.6" tripod for storage or transport.
Variable Leg Angles
With the tripod's variable leg angles, it can adjust to three angles and splay its legs out completely to a minimum height of 8.4".
Two Center Columns
The rapid center column, which is reversible, extends and locks into place via its twist lock. An included low-angle center column allows you to get those macro shots that are close to the ground.
Integrated Monopod
The tripod's detachable leg converts into a working monopod with a maximum height of 65.2".
Triple-Action Ball Head
The Arca-type BZ-226T ball head, which includes the QR-20 quick release plate, can support cameras that weigh up to 27 lb. The head features three knobs, one to control the movement of the ball, one for the pan, and the tension control knob to add or decrease drag on the ball.
Bubble Level
The integrated bubble level on the ball head enables your to accurately align you horizon within the camera's viewfinder.
Spiked Feet
The retractable rubber feet expose spikes that can be driven into softer terrain to add stability and rigidness to the tripod.

Oben CT-3586 Tripod with BZ-226T Ball Head Reviews

High quality, great value

I purchased the Oben gimbal head first and was so impressed I went back for the tripod. It doesn't disappoint being sturdy and finely machined as well as compact and lightweight. An excellent tripod at a great price point.

Heavy Gear

When I would use my Nikon D 850 paired with a Sigma 150-600 lens the weight of the pair created problems with my old tripod. Once while setting up for a shot one of the legs collapsed and had I had been slower the whole lot would have been in the river. The Oben can not only handle the weight, but ball head with tension adjustment makes panning a breeze.

Sturdy Mid Range Tripod that Won't Break the Bank

[I received this product in exchange for my honest review.] I recently reviewed this product for my YouTube channel, The Camera Project. I was looking for a portable tripod that could hold full frame photo / video gear but still pack down and fit on my backpack. I used with a Sony A7III and Tamron 28-75 lens, and did long exposure waterfall photography. I tested up to 20 or so seconds with no issues. I liked that the tripod comes with the short center column, offers the monopod leg, and folds down to a relatively small 16.6 inches. At 4 pounds, it's not crazy heavy, but can support up to 27 pounds. While I didn't remotely test that weight limit, it was sturdy, easy to adjust the ballhead, and rock solid. I didn't notice any creep or have any difficulty adjusting the ballhead. I saw one reviewer had issues with this ballhead, and I wonder if the secondary ballhead tension knob wasn't tightened on their unit, as there are 2 actual controls for the ballhead. Overall, I was very happy with this tripod and thought it hit a nice balance of size, weight, and price. I was sick of buying cheap tripods to always be disappointed. I now own this Oben CT-3586 Carbon Fiber Tripod and Triple Action BZ-226T Ball Head for over a year. I use a Nikon D750 or D850 with a Nikon 200-500 f/5.6 VR lens with a Oben GH-30C Carbon Gimbal with a Oben base plate attached to the bottom of my Gimbal and place the Gimbal straight onto my ball head quick release plate no screwing the ball head off and Gimbal on. Tripod and Ball Head hold it all ! No shaking, wobbling. All steady. I saved over $200 bucks instead of putting clamp on Tripod direct and 2 separate DVTL round plates. Works beautiful ! B&H is the best for always helping out.

Stable And Precise

'Lightweight model, not what I need

I have been using the Oben CT-3586 for a few month now and can only say, it is adequate, not up to the standards that are in the description. With a D750 and short tele lens, the quick release plate is not very tight, even after cranking down on the control knob. The legs DO NOT open with just a 1/4 turn and often you have to turn the leg knobs to the point the legs almost separates. For the amount I paid, this is not even close to a pro level tripod, but entry level only or just above.

This was a good purchase.

With so many tripods out there how do you narrow down the choices? I went with this one because it had numerous 4-5 star reviews. I went with carbon fiber for how solid it is. It seems quite stable with my Nikon D500 and 50mm lens. The ball head is smooth, yet doesn't slip. I have not tested the total weight load yet. The legs loosen and tighten easily. Overall it is stable. Love that the legs fold down enough to stuff in the carry sack that came with it. Packs away nice and would be conceivably easy to pack into wilderness.

Don't buy for its convertible monopod feature, not feasable

First off B&H does a great job at packing and delivering all my orders safely and efficiently, Thanks! I bought this Oben CT-3586 Tripod with BZ-226T Ball Head as it was marketed by Oben as a two in one tripod as well as an easily convertible monopod. Not-so-easy! Firstly, it's tedious to remove all the nuts and bolts to get the center column out of the tripod and attach it to one of the legs. Then you have to reverse the mounting screw as it will not fit the camera/lens if it's set to fit the tripod head. Reversing the mounting screw itself involves removing a tiny locking screw which can be easily lost. (And yes you got to carry a special tiny Allen key provided with the tripod if you want to do this in the field, again easily lost) Secondly, if converting to monopod was hard, then reversing the process to convert back to a tripod is even harder. Especially with the center column, it will not go back in its position that easily even when you line up the two notches on the center tripod hole to the grove in the center column. this is because a retention aluminum pin on the center column fixed horizontally near the bottom of the center column, it protrudes on both ends and makes it difficult unless you use brute force to ram the center column in after you line up the notches and grove. Oben CT-3586 Tripod with BZ-226T Ball Head is USELESS as a monopod convertible unit, I should have known better and bought a dedicated tripod and a separate monopod.

Is this Oben CT-3586 considered Large or Small. How can. I get extra parts for it ?
Asked by: Thomas
Depends on how you look at it. Compared to regular, non-travel tripods, this would be considered small. In relation to travel tripods, this would be medium-ish, leaning towards large. Extra parts can be ordered/sent from the manufacturer, Oben, here: Oben (distributed by Gradus Group, LLC.) Tel: (212) 594-2353 Website: http://www.obensupport.com/ Email: [email protected]
