Roland RD-2000 Digital Stage Piano

The RD-2000 Digital Stage Piano from Roland is a professional keyboard that is equipped with two independent sound engines, premium keyboard action, and advanced controller features. It can be used to deliver acoustic and electric piano sounds in several environments such as on the stage and in the studio, and it blends evolved piano technologies with modern control.

This keyboard is a good solution for commanding a large-scale setup. It can seamlessly integrate internal sounds, software-based instruments, hardware sound modules, and more. In addition to the realistic pianos, the RD-2000 includes over 1,100 additional sounds for covering any style of music with just one keyboard. There are highly expressive virtual tone-wheel organs, modern and vintage synths, clavinet, orchestral strings, brass, and many other sound types.

Furthermore, the RD-2000's USB audio/MIDI interface makes it easy to integrate software instruments with a studio DAW or laptop running your favorite host software when performing on stage. You can map different sounds via 8 assignable zones, and route audio from soft synths through the keyboard to create a powerful hybrid rig. The interface supports 24-bit audio at rates up to 192 kHz, allowing you to access your highest-quality sounds.

Finally, with its versatile outputs, the RD-2000 is ready to connect with any stage or studio setup. Main stereo outs are provided on XLR and 1/4" jacks, and there's also a sub output that allows you to route internal sounds and USB audio independently.

Performance Powerhouse
The RD-2000 is a versatile instrument for the performing keyboardist. It features dual sound engines that power the acoustic and electric pianos, plus realistic keyboard action for a stage piano. There's a massive selection of ensemble sounds to cover any musical task, as well as two wave-expansion slots for adding more sounds. With its innovative modern interface, the RD-2000 is a powerful master controller for working with today's software-based instruments on stage.
Acoustic Pianos Powered by V-Piano Technology
Incorporating the latest piano technologies and long-running V-Piano research, the acoustic voice is natural, responsive, and richly detailed. The dedicated acoustic engine features full-keyboard polyphony, allowing you to realize authentic piano performances without any compromises.
Historic Electric Pianos
Via a second SuperNATURAL-based sound engine, the RD-2000 gives you access to a wide range of classic electric pianos from the '60s, '70s, and '80s. Included are recreations of the RD-1000 (the very first RD stage piano) and MKS-20 sound module from the '80s. The unique musical voices are instantly recognizable from that era's hit records. Vintage effects are also on hand for processing your EPs, including the ubiquitous BOSS CE-1 Chorus and Roland SDD-320 Dimension D.
Realistic Playability
The PHA-50 progressive hammer-action keyboard with escapement is an effective platform for playing the RD-2000's responsive acoustic and electric pianos. This keyboard features hybrid keys constructed of wood and molded materials, combining classic feel with rugged durability. Together with Roland's advanced sensor mechanism and hammer-action design, the PHA-50 delivers authentic grand piano touch that's right at home under your fingers.
Designed for Stage
With its intuitive interface, navigating the RD-2000 during live performances is simple. Eight knobs and nine sliders provide control for sounds, effects, and more, and the knobs feature LED indicators for precise adjustment with instant visual feedback.
Zones and Scenes
The RD-2000 features eight assignable zones that allow you to map sounds to different key ranges, or create combination sounds with up to eight layers. And with the Scene function, you can save 100 different snapshots of the entire keyboard setup and recall them with a quick button-touch while performing.
Bender and Wheels
Equipped with Roland's classic pitch/mod lever and two modulation wheels, the keyboard provides expressive options for any performance style. The dual wheels are useful for detailed sound adjustment on external synths, and are independently assignable per program.
Powerful Encoder Knobs
The RD-2000's encoder knobs bring a powerful level of control to your live performances. LED indicators show the current knob value at a glance, even on the darkest stages. They also respond to velocity, allowing you to execute precise edits with slow movements and quickly move through tones and parameters with fast movements.

Roland RD-2000 Reviews

Genuine Piano Reproduction

By Jim

This is not a technical review - you can read technical reviews by just using YouTube. I purchased this because I wanted a keyboard that was more focused on piano sound reproduction than synthesizer options. I am not disappointed. There are enough variations with the available piano sounds to keep any person happy. In addition, there are options to layer different instruments (pads, strings, electric piano, etc.). The capabilities of this keyboard are more than I need at this time, but I am very pleased with the sound reproduction and options available. I played keyboard for my church and wish I could bring this on stage with me, but I currently play on the Yamaha MX88 at church. Much more capabilities than I will probably ever use, but if you are looking for a top-notch performer for a stage piano, this doesn't disappoint. I purchased it because it finally went on sale. It is a professional level stage piano and is right up there with the Yamaha YC-88 and Nord series.

Stellar Piano Sound Engine, but...

By George A.

The RD-2000 has an incredible piano sound engine. I could not possibly be more pleased with the tonal quality of the V-piano sounds. It is an outstanding advance in electric piano technology. Great thought was placed into the functionality of the controls, in terms of placement and versatility. It is a fantastic instrument. I am, however, extremely disappointed in Roland's quality control and packaging. The first RD-2000 that I received from B & H had a dent in the middle of the keyboard, and middle E was sticking because the metal keyslip was pressing against the base of the key. I returned that RD-2000 to B&H. The return was hassle-free. B&H is a great company in every way, and I have no quibbles with them. I received the replacement about a month later due to it being out of stock. No dents on the new one, but over 25 of the keys make a noisy clattering sound when played. The other 60+ keys play beautifully. Clearly the piano was rushed out of the factory without any attention to quality control. Had anyone played it for more than a minute, they would have realized that the keys needed adjustment. It is just a mechanical issue with the keys. It is very frustrating to pay $2500 for a new keyboard and have it have this issue. I feared returning it once again, because of the inadequate packing that Roland used in sending it. It would probably end up damaged in shipping all over again. Roland needs to use more Styrofoam to protect the instrument when they ship it from the factory, and someone should actually play the instrument before it leaves their facility. Roland's quality control used to be the industry standard. I am very disappointed. I have been a professional musician for forty-two years, and also tuned pianos professionally for ten years as well. I do not feel as though I should have to deal with clattering keys on a brand new keyboard. I'll put it in my car and drive it to a warranty repair facility to fix the keys. Frustrating.

The best digital Stage Piano on Earth

I can only think of one word to describe my all experience with the Roland RD-2000: Delicious. Maybe also, I only have a single warning for anyone interested in buying that wonderful digital stage piano: Do not believe and do not trust any comparison video and even supposed promotion of the RD-2000 on YouTube, with sound intentionally or not, horribly modified by equalizers or altered by poor quality amplifiers to disqualify the RD-2000 against the competition. Nothing to do with the reality, beauty, sophisticated, powerful and wonderful sounding of the RD-2000's sound engine both on stage and in the studio. I have owned and spent tens of thousands of dollars each year on the latest of all the most expensive premium range digital pianos from the brands Yamaha, Nord, Kawai, Kurzweil, Dexibell, Korg and lastly the RD-2000 which was my latest and cheapest purchase and the best sounding by far, comparing it to all my previous models. Better believe an end user like me, without any need to benefit a particular brand cheating, and who is only interested in the truth with the supporting facts in the hands.

Asked by: Mugabe
The Roland RD-2000 Digital Stage Piano comes with a power cable intended for use at 110V 50/60 Hz in North America so you will need to use a step-down transformer in order to power the keyboard with 240V.
