Buyer Beware

I bought this monitor to replace a Marshall that I had in a video booth. I liked the fact that it has built in speakers. I was going to use this to preview video using a AJA Kumo. The problem with it is that when you switch between sources there is a 5-10 second delay and then the video turns purple. I am running sync to the Kumo and did not have this problem with the Marshall. I contacted Ikegami and this is the email they emailed me. Per our phone conversation earlier, I spoke with our engineer here, who explained that this is an economical model of monitor, and the delay/lag when switching video sources is normal. This is time that the source signal is syncing with the display. This seems to be a low grade consumer TV with a SDI input slapped on it!!! The clarity is also not as good as the old Marshall that it was going to replace. I will be sending this back to B&H.

Nice Monitor!

We use this monitor for our show producers to see a multiview feed of all of our switcher sources so that they can verify things during live shows. We were using cheap TVs and mini convertors, but those kept flaking out. This monitor has native HD-SDI, so the signal is solid and the picture is a clear step up from the older TVs The screen is pretty glossy though. Which is probably why they look so much crisper and higher contrast. Includes a basic remote and can be operated from buttons under the right edge of the bezel too.

Cost-efficient client monitor

Ikegami ULE-217 appears to be a better value compared to other professional name brand HD production monitors. Critical that it allows multiple inputs such as HD-SDI and HDMI so I can use with any of my cameras (also allows composite video for any SD work). Even includes loop through HD-SDI but not for HDMI. Image quality is acceptable for client viewing purposes, however I recommend considering higher-priced units if you require a true production monitor --- this unit excludes built-in waveform/vectorscope and Blue functions that would help you set bars and closely match camera output. This monitor does have audio speakers (not all monitors do), however you won't be pleased with its volume output even at 100 (range 0-100). I had to buy small speakers that connect from my mixer so a small group can better hear playback content. Ikegami ULE-217 doesn't have any audio output connections.

question

embeded audio?
Asked by: Anonymous
I could not find any info about embedded audio in the units documentation. I do not use the monitor for audio. To positively answer the question . . . I used a test signal generator with a 1080i video source with an embedded 1K audio tone to verify. The monitor's internal speakers reproduced the audio test tone with the output level adjusted by the monitor's volume control. Short answer . . . yes, this monitor will accept embedded audio. DP
