Sirui B-00R overview

  • 1Description

The red B-00 Series Mini Ball Head from Sirui is an Arca-type compatible, anodized aluminum head that weighs 7.2 oz and has a load capacity of 11 lb. The 2.76" tall ball head has a portrait notch on the side of the head that allows an attached camera to move in 90° angle, for vertical shooting. At the base, a scale with index direction marks enables you to accurately move a camera in a 360° pan and lock into place with its independent panning lock. The ball head also includes the TY-C10 quick release plate, which can slide out by opening the head's clamp, but a safety-lock release button needs to be pressed to release the plate as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Small Ball Head This ball head actually surprised me. Considering Sirui is quietly becoming a major player in the camera support market, something this inexpensive was surprising. The B-00 is actually a very nice compact head. I got it for my monopods, SLIK Pro Pod 380 CF and Velbon Ultra Stick Super 8. I just wanted an Arca plate system on them. I got the blue color just for the fun of it. I like that colors are now being added to camera gear other than the standard black or aluminum color. To test the B-00 I put it on my tripod (SLIK Pro 614 CF). The B-00 is solidly built and easily holds my SLR and zoom lens, roughly 5.5 pounds. It locks and holds them fine at any angle. The panning is smooth, something I expect from Sirui from past experience. I prefer the two control system (one for the ball head position the other for panning control) over the single lever and 3 control system. I never use the tension control on the 3 knob system and when in a hurry I get confused by which knob does what. With the single control the camera seems to flop all over the place when I only wanted to change the angle of the camera. Keep it simple with singular controls easily identifiable. This ball head meets all my requirements. There was one issue I encountered. The main locking knob (lever) seemed to be loose. It wiggled a bit in any position, ball head locked and ball head not locked. I wrote to Sirui about this. They replied the next day with a link to a service request link. I filled it out and sent it in. I continued to play with the B-00 and found that the locking lever was actually adjustable. You can lift it and reposition it. It is spring loaded. That would explain why it was a bit loose. I figured it was a design feature to reposition the lever. Maybe the mystery about the wiggle solved. I was shocked when I got a phone call from Sirui maybe an hour after I submitted the service request. The person, Ronald, wanted to go over the problem with me. He told me he had already checked with the design team and that maybe I wasn't adjusting the head correctly. I told him that it wasn't the tensioning but the wiggle in the lever. He said they misunderstood the problem and now he understood what I was talking about. As I guessed, it isn't an issue at all. The main locking knob (lever) is adjustable. You can lift it and position it to another angle. It is spring loaded and re-seats itself when released. According to Ronald, the B-00 was designed for smaller tripods that sometimes have an issue with the positioning of the ball head locking lever or because of the proximity to the Arca plate and the tension knob of the plate. That is the reason it seems a bit loose. It is meant to be adjustable and not fixed. This feature is not mentioned in the documentation included with the ball head and is not mentioned anywhere on their website. I have to give Sirui high marks on customer service. I have never had a response so quickly from any organization after a request. I have a few of their products and have been impressed with the quality of all of them. Now I am also very impressed with their customer support. They have gained my loyalty.
