Shoot at staggering distances with the 125x optical zoom COOLPIX P1000 Digital Camera from Nikon. This camera, which has a 16MP backside illuminated CMOS sensor, features a built-in NIKKOR lens with a 35mm equivalent focal length range of 24-3000mm. You can zoom even further with 250x Dynamic Fine digital zoom, which will give you an equivalent focal length of 6000mm. Coupled with these extreme focal lengths is Nikon's Dual Detect Optical Vibration Reduction, which provides 5 stops of optical image stabilization and ensures your telephoto shots are crisp.
Gracing the back of the camera are a 3.2" vari-angle, 921k-dot LCD monitor and an eye-level 2.36m-dot electronic viewfinder, so your subjects will always be easy to see. The camera is also capable of recording 4K UHD video at 30 or 25 fps and supports an external microphone via a 3.5mm connector.
Camera shake may be a concern while shooting at extreme focal lengths on a tripod. Or, you may need to otherwise remotely operate the P1000. The optional ML-L7 remote satisfies these needs with wireless operation off the camera's zoom, shutter, and other settings. Once you're done with a shoot, immediately access your photos on a paired smartphone via the Nikon SnapBridge app and the camera's built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Nikon P1000 Reviews
Greatly disappointed that Mode Dial failed after two years
I was quite happy with this camera, and got two years of use out of it. At that point, the Mode Dial failed, and the camera's function was profoundly diminished. The P1000 was my fourth Nikon camera. (My first was a COOLPIX P500. I replaced that camera with a COOLPIX P610. After that, I purchased a COOLPIX W300 underwater camera that I'm still using. The P1000 replaced the P610.) I used the camera almost exclusively to photograph wildlife, mostly birds, and often used the Bird-Watching mode. I also used the Shutter-priority, Aperture-priority, and a number of the Scene modes, especially Sports. I was quite happy with the combination of simplicity, 125x optical zoom, and compact form factor of the P1000. My only major complaint before the camera failed was what seemed to be the very slow speed of writing images to memory. I often missed photos as I was waiting for the previous batch of images to be stored. My P1000 failed after two years of use. The Mode Dial failed - instead of moving smoothly and stopping distinctly at each setting, it moved loosely, and the shooting mode shown by the indicator no longer matched reality. I would normally switch between modes with some frequency, but I could no longer trust the Mode Dial to work reliably. I had to leave it on one setting all the time, because if I changed the setting, it was very difficult to get it back to a different desired setting, and impossible to do so quickly. In photographing wildlife, it's often critical to be able to change camera settings quickly. The camera had a one year warranty, and it failed after just two years of use, so I can't really complain too much, but none of my previous Nikon cameras ever failed - I simply upgraded to a new camera after about four years of use. If Nikon had a new and improved model to replace the P1000 available now, I would probably just order that one, but I don't want to purchase another P1000, since this one failed so catastrophically. It's maddening that the very nice optics and most other features of this camera are perfectly fine, while the tiny but critical Mode Dial failed after only two years of use. It's possible that the Mode Dial could be fixed easily and inexpensively, but I haven't looked into that. I've never had to have a camera repaired before.
P1000 is great !!!
The P1000 doesn't have a large sensor (about same as iPhone) but the zoom is incredible !!! You can take pictures you never thought possible. I love mine.
What a camera
This Nikon p1000camera is so much better than my vortex spotting scope that I sent my vortex razor scope back. And saved 600.00 dollars. Love it.
Great camera for beginners
I initially got this camera avid 2 years ago to replace a Panasonic lumix. The zoom is amazing, which is what initially attracted me to this. We get polar bears up here and we like to watch them eat but didn't want to get too close to bother them. It's definitely outlasted my previouss cameras (refurbished sales on amazon under $200) and I am impressed. I stepped up and started learning to handle a nikon d850 and lens attachments but this is still my go to. Getting a back up Coolpix P1000 camera (this was hard to find new online because they're in such high demand?) In case anything happens which it tends to with dogs and all the water and salt and abuse my equipment gets. It does pretty great with macro shots as I love taking pictures of plants up here. The preset functions are user friendly and custom settings aren't difficult to set. I definitely recommend this camera as a just in case carry along. I'm a beginner/amateur photographer that just sits this ad a hobby so learning all the wonderful aspects of photography and equipment capabilities has been fun.
P1000 is great !
I have a Nikon D800 and a D600. and use them for most of my regular photos. But, when I want an incredible zoom, I go for my P1000. Granted, the sensor is not sufficient for a print 11x14, but the camera gets the shots no other will that costs $1000.
An iPhone with a really long lens.
I'm a long-time user of Nikon gear. Intrigued by the telephoto capabilities, I bought the P-1000 on a whim. After buying the camera, I had a conversation with a B&H tech regarding its overall capability compared to other Nikon cameras. The conclusion I reached was that the camera has about the same size sensor you'd find in a cellphone. It's image processing speed keeps you from taking action oriented photos without the delay you get which is typical to cellphone cameras. As would be expected, the camera must be tripod mounted when deploying the telephoto lens out to it's extreme magnification. When shooting at that magnification, the image is amplified electronically because of the small image sensor. This cuts down on the resolution (image quality). Essentially, the P-1000 doesn't fall into the same category that other Nikon cameras are in regarding a serious piece of equipment. It's a gimmick. If you're really serious about shooting good telephoto images, buy a proper telephoto lens and body. ps: B&H has the Nikon D-850 camera body on sale for about $2500. A telephoto lens is extra. The price should tell you where the P-1000 falls in comparison.
she absolutely loves it
I got this for my girlfriend (68 yrs old). She was using an Canon x60?, then a Lumix fz80. She said this is the best of the bunch. I understand the menu since I am a Nikonian but she seems to have it nailed right away. It's big and heavy compared to the other two. She got a wrist brace to help with it and uses a monopod and a tripod. She also is using a sling strap so it won't be weight on her neck. I have to say, she is one happy camper with this.
Worth the wait
Since the middle of 2021 I have been waiting for this camera. The zoom is amazing just as advertised... it's a bit heavy though but I have a strong hubby that can help me to carry it. I am not a camera expert but for what I want it....birding.....it's a dream come true.... I can upload photos to my phone, upload them to merlin bird id app and voil.....I get the bird species.... I love it!
